Q:I need to achieve R20 on uneven cinder block (CMU) walls. I can't get a tight fit to the CMUs with just foam board. Can I apply 2" of this product and press another 2" XPS foam board into this?
    by|Jan 3, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Touch 'n Foam and similar low pressure closed cell spray polyurethane foams are only code approved for a maximum application thickness of 2", accordingly, an R20 rated application would not be possible to achieve with the use of this product alone. To achieve an R20 rating, 2" of DAP Touch 'n Foam low pressure foam would be applied, allowed to fully cure and then supplemented with batt/loose blown/board insulation to achieve the final desired R Value. Alternately, professionally applied high pressure spray polyurethane foam could be used. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. The Touch 'n Foam Professional 2-Component Spray Foam Insulation Kit, Model #4006062600 that you reference, contained an HFC propellant. Due to new environmental regulations that took effect on 01/01/2021, all HFC propellant containing insulation kits were banned for sale in California (and several other states). Completely reformulated kits were developed to meet this new environmental regulation. The DAP Touch ‘n Foam Professional Low GWP Foam products (kits) are formulated with an HFO propellant to meet low Global Warming Potential (GWP) requirements and include no HFC’s. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

          Outside
We skirt applied it to the outside of the house from 1955 and used exterior paint for a test. In the month of October we saved $100 on our power bill. Drafts have decreased as well. Surface and foam temps need to be adhered to. It is closed cell not open cell which is needed for this application.

              What a mess!!!
Read instructions - seemed simple - pull the tab it opens both cans and off you go. Instead - the tab was hard to pull, one side broke off, finally opened it up - one rank started to leak immediately into the box, the other didn't even open. I started spraying only the brown goo and ended up ripping the tanks out and manually screwing the nozzles back on.

                Chemical A ran out.
I really loved this product! I watched the dvd and followed all the instructions. I made sure all the temperatures were within the limits prescribed and everything went well and I was very happy. The reason I am giving this product 4 stars instead of 5 is because chemical A ran out before chemical B did. I bought two of these 600 packs and both of them had this same problem. On both packs I made sure that both valves for the chemicals were open all the way, that the hoses were tight but not too tight so there were no leaks, and made sure that the hoses were never kinked. I believe that if both packs I bought used the chemicals in a better ratio so they run out at the same time I probably could have finished all the outside walls of my basement. Overall I would highly recommend this product. My basement already feels like it is at a more constant temperature, it is sealed up, and looks great.

Thank you for posting your feedback on the DAP Touch 'n Foam Pro System 600 Kit. These kits are filled with sufficient material to dispense a minimum of 600 board feet worth of delivered foam (when properly applied). After achieving a full evacuation of the 600+ board feet of delivered foam, there will always be residual chemical in one or both tanks. This condition is normal and expected. Should you wish to discuss this with us, please feel free to reach out to DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477. DAPFoam

Theory is great, application and quality didnt come through
I needed a little more product for a large product and thought I'd give this brand a try. While applying this stuff is never "easy" and you need to be careful with temperatures and keeping everything flowing and clean, this product struggled from the beginning and turned into a mess for the garbage can. The tanks started off strong for all of a minute or so before the B product (which is a nasty liquid until properly mixed) started leaking from the tank threads and quickly messing up the pressurization. I eventually got the leak under control and blocked with putty but by then the tank had lost the pressure needed to adequately mix. The final product never got the right mix and turned into slimy goo that will not cure. Its going to take hours to clean it out and start over. I think had the tank not been defective (or I'd been able to tell in time to return them and not start it flowing) it would have been effective. It was for about a minute before things went south.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience with Touch ‘n Foam Pro System 600 Kit. Based on your commentary regarding the "leaking" that you describe, it is like that the hose line was not properly connected. The most common causes for this condition are cross-threading, not applying sufficient torque to ensure a seal and/or over-torqueing, which can crush the fitting: "Tighten hose fittings with wrench provided. Do not overtighten". The texture/consistency issues that you describe can result from the product was being dispensed in an "off-ratio" manner (the blend of A and B components out of specification. The application of off-ratio product can lead to poor foam structure (low expansion, weak/brittle, too soft/poor hardness etc.) The most common reasons for this condition are attempting to spray through valves that are not opened equally: “Fully open valves on both cylinders by turning counter-clockwise until a slight resistance is felt” and/or attempting to apply the chemical through a restricted/partially clogged nozzle: "If spraying has stopped for more than 30 seconds, foam in the nozzle will begin to cure and clog, and system performance will be compromised". To verify that the chemicals are being applied in proper ratio, we recommend a "test application" prior to actual use: Spray a small amount of foam on scrap material to check chemical mix. The foam should be off-white in color and be tack free within 30–60 seconds." Lastly, Troubleshooting: If cured foam appears either lighter or darker in color immediately after spraying, one component may be blocked or empty. Immediately stop spraying and do the following:1. Check both valves to be sure they are fully open.2. Look for and fix any kinks in the hoses.3. Remove the nozzle, clean off any residual liquid or foam. Check to be sure two roughly equal chemical streams exit the foam applicator barrel by dispensing into a waste receptacle.4. Verify that the chemical, ambient, and substrate temperatures are within the suggested ranges.5. For additional assistance, contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477. Did not cover the square footage it said it would. Had to get a second set of bottles to finish. Should have just hired the company to do it by the time I had to pay for the second set of bottles. Other then that the product did perform as I hoped.

Thank you for posting your feedback on the DAP Touch ‘n Foam Pro System 600 Kit. The Touch ‘n Foam Pro System 600 kit provides up to 600 board feet of polyurethane spray foam (600 sq. ft. @ 1" thickness). Even small variations in the depth/thickness of applied foam can significantly impact the product's coverage rate. Because you did not indicate what your application depth/thickness was or provide any background on your application technique, application conditions or project background, it is difficult to provide a proper response in this format. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your experience. DAPFoam

Thank you for posting your feedback. The products that you are comparing (two component spray polyurethane foam and traditional fiberglass insulation) are not equal in terms of performance characteristics. The foam dispensed from the Pro System 600 Kit is provides an air seal, a moisture vapor barrier, high insulation value and adds structural strength/rigidity, all in one step. Traditional fiberglass insulation is not capable of any of these performance characteristics. This product was exactly as expected by all the YouTube and written reviews I looked at. Everything was in the two packages as expected. I adhered to the temperatures listed and advertised. The product dispensed just as it did in the videos which leads me to believe there is a consistency you can expect. It is difficult to calculate the yield I received from this batch because of the irregular spraying that I did. I did both of my gable ends and all the eaves plus 1/6 of my cathedral roof. Although I feel the price is high that is what it is right now and if that's what you want that is what you have to pay. I plan on purchasing two more sets of spray to finish my roof so I highly recommend this product.

When the tanks were down to about 1/4 or 1/5 capacity, meaningful propulsion was lost, and the remaining foam dribbled out languidly, failing to cure properly. I changed tips twice during the application to make sure that clogging wasn't my issue. This stuff costs $738. A loss of just 1/5 of this product represents $146. Go set fire to 7 twenty dollar bills to simulate my experience with this foam. When I am spending this kind of money, I expect flawless performance, and I simply didn't get it. Also, I'm pretty sure the inventor was a descendant of Martin Bormann.

                      Response from Touch 'n FoamOct 19, 2017
We regret that you are disappointed with the performance of the polyurethane spray foam kit you purchased from Home Depot. Touch N Foam spray foam kits, like all prepressurized, prefilled low pressure spray foam kits, decline in output velocity as chemicals are dispensed. As chemicals are dispensed, the internal pressure decreases accordingly and the output velocity decreases.
These low pressure systems have been proven to dispense all of the chemicals when written instructions are followed while still retaining significant internal pressure. Particularly important this time of year is the maintenance of appropriate chemical temperatures. Chemical temperatures below the recommended level will result in significantly slower output velocity. SEAL-KRETETouchnFoam
