Product Overview

The TowSmart X-Mount Ball Mount is a patented X-Mount design that channels away moisture to minimize seizing within the aperture of the receiver hitch. The X-Mount design also includes a lockrail system that allows you to torque the hitch ball with a single wrench. The lockrail functions as a built-in wrench preventing the hitch ball rotation during installation or removal from the X-Mount Ball Mount. Make sure to select the correct class for your towing application. Each X-Mount can be used in either the drop or rise position depending on your requirement when towing. It is important to know the total weight of the trailer (GTW) you are towing and the maximum towing capacity determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
  • Patented, anti-seize design allows less surface contact and channels away moisture to minimize rust build up

Such beef
I picked up this class 5 hitch a while back to pull a trailer with my rock crawler on it. I have a weird hitch setup on my unimog with a pintle style hitch that I use to pull implements around at the farm, but that setup doesn't have very good road manners when pulling at the unimog's top speed of around 70mph, downhill, with a tailwind. This hitch is quite beefy and while the "X" design of the main tube provides much more structural integrity, it can make it trickier to slide into the reciver.

THE TOWSMART REVERSIBLE TRAILER HITCH BALL MOUNT is the best I've found.
The equipment I tow all have different cargo weights, riding and trailer tongue heights which makes it more difficult to hook up and allows, “trailer tail scraping,” through steep intersections and driveway entrances. I had used a tri-hitch with three different balls, but it didn’t solve the riding height problem or trailer tail scraping. My biggest shock was when I compared what I had to the TOWSMART REVERSIBLE TRAILER HITCH BALL MOUNT specifications. It has a 3 1/2” rise and 5” drop which levels out a lot of the riding heights of what I regularly haul and helps eliminate the tail dragging that has damaged trailer rear bumpers and rear plumbing. But my biggest shock was their comparative load ratings. The tri-hitch, which has since been relegated to keeping the lids on my trash cans, was only rated at 3,500 to 7,500 pounds. The TowSmart hitch ball mount is rated at 17,000 pounds! I’m pretty sure that some of what I was hauling in the past was well beyond the safe weight rating of my previous equipment. With the TOWSMART REVERSIBLE HITCH BALL MOUNT that problem is now solved.

It is strong. Seems well made.
It is strong. Seems well made. Slides in and out a little to easy. There is a good mount of slop when installed. A hitch silencer is recommended in my opinion. Perfect combination of powder coating with a stainless steel ball ideal for boating in salt water. Fits our 2016 F350 without using an adapter sleeve. No noticeable noises or rattles. This thing is no joke.

Tough trailer hitch
This is a very tough, solid built trailer hitch. It is for a 2 1/2 inch receiver, not a standard 2 inch receiver. The shaft on the ball can be 1 inch or up to inch and a quarter, but I am sure it would work best with one and a quarter inch. The lock rails for holding the ball from spinning when you tighten the nut on the bottom is a nice thought. It does seem to give a full 5 inch drop, or if you spun it 180° it would be a 3 1/2 inch rise. Fit and finish is good, but there are a couple of burrs that could’ve been ground off before it was painted.

Quality heavy-duty reversible hitch
I got this heavy-duty hitch for my tilt deck trailer that I haul a 35 HP tractor and equipment back and forth to a small farm 12 miles away. My ¾ ton truck is high at the rear and this 5 inch drop works well with my trailers. It well-made thick and able to handle a heavy load. The way the receiver part of the hitch is made, it doesn’t hold water and shouldn’t rust like most do. I like the ridges where the ball sits and it holds it so you can tighten the ball with one wrench. I don’t have a need to reverse the hitch for raising the height, but it’s nice to have. This is a great quality hitch.

Easy to insert
The X-shaped body makes this a cinch to insert into a 2.5" receiver. The truck in the photos has a rusty, dirty receiver and instead of a battle inserting a regular ball mount, this one glided right in. Also, getting it back out doesn't require a trip under the truck with hammer. Huge capacity of 15,000 lbs. so no more worrying "can I haul this?" with your properly sized truck. The hitch also has a couple of bosses to act like a wrench to hold the ball in place while you tighten the nut below. Nice!

Great feature and very heavy duty!
I recently purchased a new Class V receiver hitch with a 5-inch drop. I came across this TOWSMART Class V 15,000 pound, 5-inch drop or a 3.5-inch rise. This hitch is an “X-Mount” that helps to channel water away out of the receiver portion of your hitch to minimize seizing over time. This TowSmart Class V hitch also has a “Lock-Rail” system that allows you to torque the ball without needing a wrench on the ball portion and only needing a wrench on the nut on the bottom. This allows using only one wrench to install the ball in the hitch. The hole in the hitch for the ball is 1-1/4 inches in diameter for accepting larger diameter balls to be used. It is of very solid steel material and heavy weight and painted in black

good unit
Yup this looks stout and it is. What a nice chunk of steel. Seems these tow smart people really want a piece of the market. This product like the other I reviewed is made of a good thick material, The welds are done really well the finish on the product is also really good. The dimpled receiver peg should help with side to side twist acting like the corrugations on a tin can. I ordered this by mistake but I have to tell you if this is any indication I will shop for tow smart product for all my stuff. I in all honesty will never tow anything that requires this hitch's capacity but I will be using it to tow my boat with an adapter on my 2" receiver.

Its ok
I was so happy to receive my TowSmart 15,000 pounds with a 5 inch drop x 3 1/2 inch rise hitch. This is a class V X-Mount reversible trailer hitch ball mount. Some of the black powder coated finish is already coming off and I haven't even used it yet. Also inside of the hitch is already looks like its rusting. The X mount design also includes a lockrail system that allows you to torque the hitch ball with a single wrench. The lockrail functions as a "built-in wrench" preventing the hitch ball from rotating during installation or removal from the X Mount ball mount. This hitch fits 2 1/2" hitch receiver. It has a 1 1/4 inch shank for the trailer ball. This hitch is very heavy duty. If the paint was a better quality I would give it a better rating.

Exactly what I needed
This 15,000 lbs 5 in drop x 3-1/2 in rise x 1-1/4 in shank reversible trailer hitch ball mount from Tow Smart is exactly what I needed. I have a 2018 F250 and it sits rather high off the ground even with the stock suspension. I was originally using a 2 inch shank to fit a 2x2 standard receiver, and used the adapter sleeve that came with my truck to fit it into my 2.5x2.5 receiver. This provided added noise when the hitch bounced around or I went around turns with my trailer. It was always an undesirable sound and made me think I was breaking something. This hitch fits nice and snug without the adapter sleeve, and its a heavy duty piece of metal. It dwarfs my previous hitch by quite a bit. The 2 inch drop I had before didn't quite cut it for me, I always had to jack up my trailer to about max height to get it off the ball, and if I was on uneven ground sometimes I couldn't get it off at all. This 5 inch drop is exactly what I needed to be able to get my boat trailer off without a struggle. Also, the grooves in the shank allow water to drain out which is huge. My previous hitch was rusting around the shank where it sits in the receiver because water would collect there. This has to provide longer life to the hitch. I'm still waiting on my new ball to arrive, so the pictures are missing that aspect. Keep in mind the 1-1/4 ball shank is larger than typical, so make sure you get the right size ball. The locking grooves on the side of the sides of the ball seat allow for the hex head on the ball to lock in so you can tighten it with a single wrench. I'm very glad I decided to go with this hitch.
