Does this product require a underlayment

Planning on installing about 400sq ft of this in a very small retail store over existing concrete. Does it require a underlayment to do so?
Asked by: redbeard
I was at Home Depot today to order installation of plank flooring and was told I needed cork underlayment. They would not install the floor without the cork unless I obtained a letter from the HOA stating that a lower quality or none was required. The cork costs more than the flooring and is likely their highest underlayment material. I do not know what is required on concrete floors. I was also told that certain rooms that get a lot of sun will not work for the plank due to fading. Home Depot refused to install the plank flooring in the foyer and sun room which meant I had to choose a higher priced floor. Won't be using HD.

Are these planks easily removable and reusable?

I'm a renter and am looking for a temporary solution to cover the existing old linoleum kitchen floor. When I move out I would have to remove them and maybe I'd reuse them in the future if possible.
Asked by: sandy
The ones that are 100% water proof. Click together are and we have done it several times the peel and stick ones are not.

Allure 6 in. x 36 in. Teak Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (24 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1073.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from floor scratched immediately I must have received a different product than literally everyone else. not sure if the photo will show, but the floor was scratched 2 days after laying. yes we have dogs, but their nails are not that long and a vinyl floor should have stood up to a lot more. will never buy another product from this company again. and now I will probably have to redo all the flooring to even make the house sellable again. beyond furious with this garbage.

I can't speak to the ease of installation, as it was installed in my home before I bought it (3 years ago). The space is used by teenagers and tenants----this flooring is very resistant to wear. Only two things have damaged it: 1) boiling water made the surface pucker and bubble (not surprising), and 2) a heavy piece of furniture left a deep gouge when it was dragged across the floor (no surprise there, either). Other than that, it tolerates foot traffic and light furniture moving, and it is working out well in the bathroom. It looks good and cleans up well. It also looks nice in photographs, which is important for online listings. Some reviewers have complained about an odor. I can't detect one. I see no problems with the seams not remaining sealed.

I've been a landlord for 30 years and this is the most logical flooring choice for rentals I've seen. I wouldn't use it in my personal home as it just doesn't match the attractiveness of real hard wood. Also, even though it's quite rigid when newly installed, unless the sub floor is perfectly smooth it settles over time and shows every wave, hump or other imperfection, especially when covering a large area. The sub floor should be prepped just like when you're installing sheet vinyl. To cut it, you can score with a sharp cutter and snap like in their installation video but don't underestimate how labor intensive it can be. Realistically, a pair of metal cutters or shears works better with less fatigue and is absolutely necessary when cutting around doorways, etc. The glory of this product is it's usefulness in rentals. It's tough stuff but when the tenant still manages to destroy a section of it you simply replace the area they damaged. It's much easier to use a heat gun and putty knife to get the damaged planks up w/o harming the good neighboring flooring. This always ruins the glue strip so to get the remaining undamaged planks to adhere to the new replacement planks, you need to re-coat the glue strip on the remaining planks with regular contact cement and let dry. Then you just slide the new piece into place and you just saved $100's by not replacing the entire floor!

And, to use the easiest method, it must be installed starting with the non-adhesive edges (as seen from the front side) against the wall. Otherwise there will be excessive patchwork to do installing the shorter-than-36-inches pieces in the final row, mainly because the edges with the adhesive on the bottom create a space that may need to be propped up by placing a specially cut piece underneath the unsupported edges so they stay flat with the surrounding tiles.

While it gets good ratings when you first apply this product, ask again in a few years and you will probably find that the flooring is not as pretty as when first installed. Mine is coming up along the edges 2 years later - SERIOUSLY?? While I see that I can reheat the edges up to three times to help them restick, who has time for that and what other floors have to be redone within 2 years?? Sorely disappointed in this floor. DON'T BUY THIS!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Vinyl plank flooring Pain in the butt to cut tight details with metal shears.. long steel bladed shop scissors.. etc.. at one point considered a hacksaw... straight cuts by scoring and bending were easy.... do NOT purchase repacks... we lost 5 boards because of someone repacking the box... I would recommend ONLY if you have minimal details to work around (door jams, closets, etc...)

I do not install floor, I am not handy. Yes it took a few wasted planks to get used to the product and yes I unfortunately have a few minor gaps but overall this floor is great. I installed it 2 years ago and it is still looking brand new today (see photos). Cutting the thick planks was the hardest part for me, but after I scoring and snapping over 500 square feet I was a pro. If you are unsure about the installation process, home depot has some great online videos and hey I did it!
