Questions & Answers

Do you need the roller (shown in the video) for installation or can you press down manually on the planks to get the same result?

Asked by: AJ123
The 75# roller is definitely not needed! That type of roller is used for VCT flooring, the type of adhesive used on the "strips" will grab and hold very well (the small extendable hand rollers work great and cost about $25 at HD) if your flooring is cold or not adhering together, use a regular hair dryer (do not use a heat gun) you can use a hair dryer as your laying the planks or after to fix any problem spots. I am a professional flooring installer with over 30 yrs experience, I suggest always open the boxes and let them acclimate in the room that they will be installed for 24 to 48 hrs., not an issue if it's warm, if your installing in a cold room turn up the heat or use space heaters, this floor will not work if the room or material temp is below 70 degrees F. and leave the heat on for 24 hrs after installation. (dramatic changes in temp may cause the adhesive to fail) door jambs can be undercut using an oscillating saw on top a scrap piece of the flooring to set the height of cut, works even better than a $200 jamb saw!

Do you need to put down any type of cushioning material before floating the floor?

Asked by: canashar
I have installed LVP with foam underpayment and without, foam is not a good choice for any LVP, unless you like soft clanky feeling floors. I have used another method for small areas to eliminate the tapping sound that LVP and Laminates make, this is not a manufacturer approved method, but it works nicely for click together and should work well with the glue strip style, I use multipurpose adhesive under the floor, not as an adhesive, but as a cushion that is silent, if the floor is not perfectly smooth and flat you may get a stick and release sound, so spend some extra time on floor prep or avoid the multi on the low spots, like I said this is not a manufacturers approved method, but it is installer approved! WARNING Don't use multipurpose adhesive for a glue down style LVP, it will fail, always use the manufacturer recommended pressure sensitive adhesives!

How does it hold up to dogs?

What about Accidents? Does it linger in the cracks??? Does it hold the smell?

This being a "floating" floor installation how does it sound walking on it? Does it have a hollow sound to it while walking on it ?

I'm concerned this being so thin will have a click click sound when you walk on it due to it flexing under the pressure of your feet since it is a floating installation
Asked by: Cd1
Our first installer put down only plastic sheeting under it and it slaps then for the adjoining room I found a thin foam underlayment to dampen sound. Makes a huge difference.

Cherry 6 in. x 36 in. Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (24 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 2385.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy to work with. Bought this to put in my 2nd bathroom, over the ceramic tile. I liked this product because A) it is supposedly waterproof; and b) if i didnt like it or messed it up, I could easily remove it, and revert back to my tile floor. This product is very easy to work with. I'm not handy in any sense of the word, but after watching a bunch of youtube install videos, you get the general sense of how to install it. Here are my tips for installation: 1. buy a pair of heavy duty scissors, i bought some 'tinning' scissors that i think are generally used for cutting thin aluminum, and even vinyl siding. it makes cutting the planks around door mouldings and the toilet ring easier. i picked up a pair of $14 ones from HD. 2. measure twice and take your time when preparing for a cut. i messed up 2 planks, by cutting the wrong side. 3. order at least one extra box for screw ups. my job is 90% done, and i just need 5 more planks. i feel stupid for having to wait for a 3rd box to be delivered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best flooring value We've found We can write about this flooring with the voice of experience. It is economical, durable, and above all, really beautiful. About two years ago, we put in Allure flooring in a pine pattern into our great room, kitchen, and dining room. (about 1,200 square feet). It took a bit of work because of some irregular wall shapes, but the result was stunning. Now after two years with farm traffic, 7 dogs, 5 cats, grandchildren, and other similar animals, it is still absolutely beautiful. So we decided to remodel our bedroom and use the dark African flooring. The work was done in two easy days of work. The result is even more stunning than the pine finish. Two words of caution: 1) Follow the directions - if you start wrong, you'll have immense problems 2) Before laying the floor, prepare the surface VERY CAREFULLY. Any tiny piece of debris may look ok when you lay the floor, but will be very visible to you and very annoying after a few months when the vinyl settles in.

It's been about 4 months since I finished installing throughout my 1300 sq ft house. I actually enjoyed installing it. You will get better at it as you go along. Mistakes will happen, don't fret, just get another plank and try again. For hallways and room transitions, you definitely want to get a cheap heat gun and the Allure extra grip strip pack and roll of double sided tape. They are both inexpensive. Just cut an inch off the back with heat gun and blade, add the double sided tape, and then a new piece of grip strip. This will also make the flooring go a lot farther for mistakes you make here and there. It's kind of difficult to comprehend until you actually start doing the work. I used a drywall T square to make cuts. i also went through several pack of utility knife blades. I went right over the concrete slab. I have a lower level corner where my 1970s slab settled and cracked. This floor flexed right over it, no problem so far. I'm really happy with the flooring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Allure is SICK easy to install I kept thinking "but.. it's vinyl flooring.." when considering purchase of Allure flooring. Finally bought a couple of cases, and was stupified on how easy it is to install! No undercoating, no plastic, nothing...I installed over old subflooring that had been under carpet. You just carefully place each 'plank' next to each other and push down. Uses pressure senstive adhesive to 'glue' to each other; not to the floor, not to the walls! After I was done, I was very impressed with the look, the feel and the ease of care. And the price is great.. especially since there's nothing else to buy - no underlayment, no adhesives, no fancy tools! I used a standard retractable knife and a small steel square as a straight edge for cuts. Thats it! Now thinking of doing other rooms with same product. Only tip I can add is to be SURE your floor is clean of any materials, carpet boogers, nails, staples, etc. Oh.. and make your score/cuts on the FACE of the material, then SNAP it backwards on the score; worked every time!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too good to be true I've had his floor for 6 weeks and am sorry I bought it. I followed the installation guidelines to a T.. I even acclimated the floor for 4 days. After the first week I noticed 16th inch gaps in certain places where the floor pulled apart and it's not because of temperature because I've kept my house within the temperature guidelines since I've received this flooring. I'm now noticing scratches in it as well. I haven't had anything on the floor to cause them so it's very frustrating. if this is what the floor looks like after a month-and-a-half I'm afraid to see what it looks like after a year. Just to be clear I have gaps all around the outside of the floor so it can float I acclimated the floor twice as long as you are advised to and I've kept the temperature within the recommended range since I received this flooring, also made sure the surface was level and clean before install

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never Buy Again! We bought 35 cases for a large flooring project at a great price during the Black Friday sale. We followed the installation instructions exactly. In spite of following the directions almost half of the tiles are not firmly glued to each other, most loose at the short end. I called the company to complain and they sent me out a box of glue. The files were in the house (air conditioned) almost a month prior to installation. Every seam was hand rolled. A 6 mil vapor barrier was put over our concrete floor which is very clean and level. We rented a 100 pound roller for 2 days and rolled the floor repeatedly only to see the tiles come up shortly thereafter. We began video taping the installation when the first course we put down started to come up to prove to the company we had followed their instructions. I do plan on filing a warranty claim as I do not expect this floor to last very long as dirt works into the exposed seems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from African Dark Wood Only Problem I have purchased two other Allure Floormaster colors for installations I have done and I have been extremely happy with them. However, this color, African Dark Wood has a serious issue in my view. When installing the tiles lengthwise, you cannot get a decent transition between the planks. because of the very different look of the dark grainy wood and the light clear stripes on this, no matter how you try, you end up with a light streak transitioning right into the middle of a dark knot. This makes it look ridiculously fake and your eye is drawn right to that area immediately because it is so odd looking. I thought perhaps there would be special instructions for this color that would solve the problem but there do not seem to be and no matter how we tried mixing the planks, we couldn't get an acceptable look. On their own, the planks are gorgeous. But put down as a long floor the look is awful. Luckily I only ordered one box as a test and will be returning it.

This manufacturer offers a persuasive argument for its use in the various advertising videos that I viewed prior to purchase. I followed, to the letter, all of the instructions in the detailed guide. Yes, it's easy. After installing about 650 s.f. of the flooring, I noticed that some of the edges were lifting along the sticky strip. Pressing down on them with a j-roller, or stepping on them, temporarily solved the problem. The flooring associates at Home Depot were unable to provide a solution. The manager called the manufacturer, asking me to answer questions for them, before I was handed the phone. Typical questions cropped up: is the room at the correct temperature? Did you acclimate the product?, etc. Looking for an excuse to shift responsibility to me. They sent me a claim form, and some instant glue. Be aware that the claim only covers replacement product, not installation costs. So far, the gluing process is under review as to its efficacy, but I won't risk using this product again.
