Questions & Answers

Do you need the roller (shown in the video) for installation or can you press down manually on the planks to get the same result?

Asked by: AJ123
The 75# roller is definitely not needed! That type of roller is used for VCT flooring, the type of adhesive used on the "strips" will grab and hold very well (the small extendable hand rollers work great and cost about $25 at HD) if your flooring is cold or not adhering together, use a regular hair dryer (do not use a heat gun) you can use a hair dryer as your laying the planks or after to fix any problem spots. I am a professional flooring installer with over 30 yrs experience, I suggest always open the boxes and let them acclimate in the room that they will be installed for 24 to 48 hrs., not an issue if it's warm, if your installing in a cold room turn up the heat or use space heaters, this floor will not work if the room or material temp is below 70 degrees F. and leave the heat on for 24 hrs after installation. (dramatic changes in temp may cause the adhesive to fail) door jambs can be undercut using an oscillating saw on top a scrap piece of the flooring to set the height of cut, works even better than a $200 jamb saw!

Do you need to put down any type of cushioning material before floating the floor?

Asked by: canashar
I have installed LVP with foam underpayment and without, foam is not a good choice for any LVP, unless you like soft clanky feeling floors. I have used another method for small areas to eliminate the tapping sound that LVP and Laminates make, this is not a manufacturer approved method, but it works nicely for click together and should work well with the glue strip style, I use multipurpose adhesive under the floor, not as an adhesive, but as a cushion that is silent, if the floor is not perfectly smooth and flat you may get a stick and release sound, so spend some extra time on floor prep or avoid the multi on the low spots, like I said this is not a manufacturers approved method, but it is installer approved! WARNING Don't use multipurpose adhesive for a glue down style LVP, it will fail, always use the manufacturer recommended pressure sensitive adhesives!

Can this product be installed over existing vinyl or does the old have to be removed first?

Asked by: hkennamer
I installed the new planks over the existing kitchen vinyl tiles and it worked great. P.S. none of the old tiles were loose.

what can I do to repair seams that have pulled apart?

We installed this flooring in our basement about 18 mos ago. There are now several places where the seams are lifting. We push them back down and the next day they have lifted again. During installation the instructions mentioned a special tape made with contact cement. I couldn't find it at our local store. Does it exist? Does it work? Where can I buy it? How do I install it?

Call the company to get a refund. Document your inquiries and keep asking about your claim. We had to answer some questions and provide photos, but eventually (I think it took about six months), we were given a refund for the purchased price, which in our case was a little more than $1,000.

We use it in our rental units and my own condo unit. It is durable and easy to clean, esp. if a baby is around (spills, crayon, etc.). Looks great and this particular style (Oak) is great because it will hide any wear you may get over time (scratches, etc.) since there are many wood grain groove patterns. There is no need to install a cushion layer under the product. Very attractive flooring has physical grooves like grainy wood and comfortable to walk on (not slippery). CONS If you are particular you can notice that it is not solid wood. Therefor a very flat surface works best. Since the material is more flexible than wood or laminate, the smallest debris on the surface underneath will eventually show itself as it pushes against the laminate (you will notice a small bump in the flooring). For example a small nail/screw or the smallest pebble. So, it is very important that the surface be swept well and inspected prior to installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is all in how you install the product! I must admit, I was very leery in using this product after all the bad reviews about the edges separating! First of all, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!! This cannot be over emphasized! The real key to keeping the edges adhered to each other is making sure the planks are per-acclimatized to the room, the floor and air temperature is above 65 degrees F, and the use of a heat gun (good hairdryer would work too). Heat the edges to be bonded until you can feel that they are tacky to the touch...lay them immediately and use a hand roller (I used a kitchen dough roller) to press the seams together. I used this procedure and made a couple of mistakes and had to take them apart...what a chore, they were bonded real good and did not want to separate even when reheated! After doing a room, I used a 100 pound floor roller to "set" the planks to the floor and insure good bonded seams. I used a utility knife and tin snips for cutting and all-in-all, cutting intricate curves was easy. Just don't be in a hurry!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Allure is SICK easy to install I kept thinking "but.. it's vinyl flooring.." when considering purchase of Allure flooring. Finally bought a couple of cases, and was stupified on how easy it is to install! No undercoating, no plastic, nothing...I installed over old subflooring that had been under carpet. You just carefully place each 'plank' next to each other and push down. Uses pressure senstive adhesive to 'glue' to each other; not to the floor, not to the walls! After I was done, I was very impressed with the look, the feel and the ease of care. And the price is great.. especially since there's nothing else to buy - no underlayment, no adhesives, no fancy tools! I used a standard retractable knife and a small steel square as a straight edge for cuts. Thats it! Now thinking of doing other rooms with same product. Only tip I can add is to be SURE your floor is clean of any materials, carpet boogers, nails, staples, etc. Oh.. and make your score/cuts on the FACE of the material, then SNAP it backwards on the score; worked every time!

My husband and I just purchased our first home - a bit of a fixer upper - and needed an inexpensive option to replace the old, dirty carpets. We would've liked solid hardwood, but this was such an inexpensive alternative we decided to try it out in our master bedroom. I laid down some 1/4" plywood underlayment on top of the subfloor, but in hindsight we probably didn't need it because the subfloor wasn't in bad shape. The hardest part for us was cutting the vinyl planks since we didn't have a very good utility knife. Otherwise it was really incredibly easy to install and we were able to install the entire bedroom in a few hours. It's hard to say how it will hold up but we made sure to follow the directions and allowed for an expansion gap around the edge of the room. It's definitely not scratch resistant, so use felt pads on the bottom of furniture. We're pretty happy with it though for the price tag, so I think we'll continue it throughout the rest of the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this floor! I decided to try this in one room to see how I liked it and whether it installs easily - and I'll be doing the rest of my upstairs with this! I'm not a professional, so I removed the trim around my doors rather than try to make rounded cuts. I also plan to put quarter-round trim around the entire room, as my house is pretty old and I had to do some uneven cuts to make it fit. A couple of things: Go to the sewing store and buy a quilter's cutting mat. It has grid marks on it and will protect whatever you're cutting on. Keep a sharp razor in the cutter, and make the first score light, then progressively deeper. A 12" metal ruler is great, but stick something on the back so it doesn't shift while you're scoring the planks. Keep a clean rag handy so you can continue to brush off the floor before you lay the planks...And keep the pets out of the room! Their hair sticks like mad to the edges. Overall - I'm loving this floor!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never Buy Again! We bought 35 cases for a large flooring project at a great price during the Black Friday sale. We followed the installation instructions exactly. In spite of following the directions almost half of the tiles are not firmly glued to each other, most loose at the short end. I called the company to complain and they sent me out a box of glue. The files were in the house (air conditioned) almost a month prior to installation. Every seam was hand rolled. A 6 mil vapor barrier was put over our concrete floor which is very clean and level. We rented a 100 pound roller for 2 days and rolled the floor repeatedly only to see the tiles come up shortly thereafter. We began video taping the installation when the first course we put down started to come up to prove to the company we had followed their instructions. I do plan on filing a warranty claim as I do not expect this floor to last very long as dirt works into the exposed seems.

I still think it looks beautiful..BUT the glue has softened and they are puling apart in areas. It is winter and they were installed in summer. When it was warm. I scoffed at a review that said she put a sealant on anyway. Now that is what I am considering. I am just surprised how soft the glue still is. Water got under the separated area so I lifted a section carefully to check it out. The underlayment was wet and starting to smell. Considering a stronger glue and getting the roller again as well. So, really really roll on this stuff as directed. And consider sealant too. All-in-all, I really like it, but be warned. Anything that comes as pieces my not be 100% watertight when it can expand and contract.

This manufacturer offers a persuasive argument for its use in the various advertising videos that I viewed prior to purchase. I followed, to the letter, all of the instructions in the detailed guide. Yes, it's easy. After installing about 650 s.f. of the flooring, I noticed that some of the edges were lifting along the sticky strip. Pressing down on them with a j-roller, or stepping on them, temporarily solved the problem. The flooring associates at Home Depot were unable to provide a solution. The manager called the manufacturer, asking me to answer questions for them, before I was handed the phone. Typical questions cropped up: is the room at the correct temperature? Did you acclimate the product?, etc. Looking for an excuse to shift responsibility to me. They sent me a claim form, and some instant glue. Be aware that the claim only covers replacement product, not installation costs. So far, the gluing process is under review as to its efficacy, but I won't risk using this product again.
