Q:Do these lock tight enough to run a floor vacuum over them?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi there Mike! Thank you for your question. A vacuum can be used to clean the TrafficMaster Flooring Tiles when they are properly installed. To ensure proper installation we recommend pounding the tiles seams with a rubber mallet to ensure they are locked together tightly. Once that has been done, a vacuum should roll over them easily. Thanks again!

          Easy install
While fitting out my new work van, I required a solid base with a good surface. After laying my subfloor (2x2 tongue and groove with foam insulation on the back), I installed these tiles as my finish. Easy to install and locked together really well with some occasional hits with the rubber mallet. These also cut really easy with a sharp utility knife. I also used the jig saw for some contouring. All in all, great product. Now if only my wife would let me use it for the bathroom.

            Excellent product.
Very simple to install. Looks great. Only problem is a slight difference in color between the tiles but it's not a problem the way I'm using them.

            Very Disappointed
Prior to installing the tiles, we went to great lengths to prepare the garage floor. We used a power sander and sanded down the top layer then purchased an expensive concrete sealer so the floor would be ready to receive the tiles. Since winter has started, we now have white residue around the perimeters of most all of the individual tiles. The whole floor now looks awful. Customer Service at H.D. will not help - we contacted the manufacturer and they will not respond to messages.

We apologize for the frustration you’ve experienced surrounding this situation. Rest assured our quality and customer service teams have received your contact information and a member of our team will reach out to you very soon regarding the tiles. While our instructions state the subfloor should be dry, clean, and level, we have not tested, nor do we suggest using sealants or chemicals under the tiles. Please have on hand the name and type of subfloor preparation agents and cleaning substances used on or under the surface of the tiles. This information will help our teams troubleshoot. Again, we apologize for your frustration and look forward to speaking with you soon.

                Sturdy, easy to assemble
I got these for an area in front of my workbench that is shared with my car. The raised coins make it a little easier to stand for long periods, and reduce the friction for my workstool wheels making it easier to stay in place. Things that I drop tend to not bounce as far because of the rubber surface. I liked how easily they went together, I did use a deadblow hammer to make push one into the other one but that was mostly because I had several to do. One or two are perfectly fine doing them by hand. The car drives over them easily and I'm hoping that it will help with keeping the concrete floor stain free. Only time will tell how easy these are to clean as I didn't have any spills to clean up and a blower and hose took care of road dirt.

                Good for protecting floors
I obtained these interlocking flooring tiles to put under some exercise equipment to protect the floor. These are made of rubber, but rather stiff, not very bendable. They do the job of protecting the floor, however, I wouldn't consider them comfortable. They do interlock easily, and are easily taken apart as well. I haven't tried this yet, but it looks like they would be easy to spray clean with a hose and let air dry. I recommend for protection, not comfort.

                Good idea
These tiles are a good idea for a garage or closet. Probably not the best choice for a basement or other space that gets a lot of foot traffic as they are quiet thin, and don’t feel great under bare feet. It’s a rather expensive flooring solution for a garage, but they do look clean and nice once they are installed. They are around 1/8 of an inch thick.

No availability of borders is disappointing
The first thing to note is this is not a padded flooring product to take strain off your feet. Instead, this is a hard rubber product to protect your flooring. It comes in 18 inch by 18 inch squares with an interlock system. Sadly, there are no smooth edge borders available so at the outside edges of your product you will have the interlock fingers sticking out. The product is not very thick but the material is durable enough that it makes cutting those edges off with a knife or scissors impossible. Most likely you will need to use a saw (band, circular, etc.) to cut the edges off. Another interesting this is the manufacturer has indicated one should leave half an inch of space around all outside edges to allow for expansion and contraction. That is a pretty significant gap between the product and your walls. The product snapped together fairly easily. The seems are visible close up but from a distance they are hard to see. I noticed dirt was immediately attracted to the surface and stands out against the black color. This might make them difficult to clean. Since the interlock is not water tight, you don’t want to mop or hose these down as water will become trapped under them. I decided to use these under my barbeque to prevent grease drips from running the concrete surface. The coins on the surface of the product did not cause any issues with the barbeque rolling up onto it.

Easy to install, the right thickness, great grip, and tough
My garage floor has been treated with an epoxy coating that I am very happy with except for two areas that get rust on the floor from stored equipment. I ordered the TrafficMaster Rubber Interlocking Modular Flooring Tiles to use under my gas-powered snow blower and to place under a rolling cabinet where I store my hand truck by sliding the flat lifting platform under the front of the cabinet when it is up against the wall unless in use. My problem with the snow blower is that the cowling gets snow in it (duh) and can’t be completely dried when I put it up without a ridiculous amount of effort. The result is that moisture drips down to where metal contacts my floor and it leaves rust marks that are difficult to remove. My solution has been to rest the snow blower on old pieces of cardboard which become soggy and eventually begin to shred. In addition, when I move the blower out to remove snow a wind gust will often blow the cardboard into the garage…a pain. The mats are a more elegant solution and one I can pick up and store in the summer when I reposition my blower from next the door in the third bay of my garage to a corner where I store the lawn mower in the winter. They stay down where I put them and are easy to roll the blower onto. I used 4 of the six for the snow blower and two for the hand truck. Other than the occasional heavy load, I regularly use the hand truck year round for positioning a fairly heavy filtration system used to clean the outside of my windows. The steel hand truck gets wet of course and I have a similar problem with rust as with the snow blower. In addition, my garage floor is built to drain from front to back and the store the roll-away cabinet against the back wall where, because the floor isn’t level, it leans forward. Placing the TrafficMaster mats under the front wheels helps to mitigate the tilt of of the floor and the width of the tiles isn’t so thick as to prevent as easy roll over when putting the cabinet back in place after rolling it away for access or to use in a project. Easy to install, the right thickness, great grip and tough. An ideal solution to my problems on the floor.

                They're pretty sturdy!
I've had these for a week now and I can say that they are more of a heavy duty material. Not a foam gym or cushioned feel. This is perfect if you have something heavy in your garage like a treadmill or exercise bicycle to place underneath. I used mine for some cabinets that I needed to place and have more secure stability when I needed them to be in the corner. Super easy to assemble and looks like spills clean ups are easy.
