Q:Does this adhere well to EPDM? Not to glue pieces together, but to seal between a vinyl window and studs covered in EPDM.

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. Tremco Vulkem 116 sealant is an excellent general-purpose sealant designed for use on poured and precast concrete, masonry work, window and door perimeters, and similar types of construction joints. While this sealant will bond to vinyl and EPDM, the use of a hybrid sealant or a neutral curing silicone is typically recommended when bedding a window flange over a membrane. Should you have any additional question or require further assistance, please contact Tremco at 800-321-7906.

Q:Can I use this to adhere/seal metal roof clips to composition shingles? I’ll probably have to use nails or screws to secure clips and want to seal penetration. Don’t see any mention of using with comp roofing.

Tremco Vulkem 116 sealant is an excellent general-purpose sealant designed for use on poured and precast concrete, masonry work, window and door perimeters, and similar types of construction joints. Tremco Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Sealant is not designed, tested, marketed, labeled, or recommended for use as a primary construction adhesive (“glue”). While this material will bond well to composition shingles (when used as a sealant), the use of mechanical fasteners is likely required by code. Excellent sealant. Used it to stop a part of the house where ants were coming in this summer.

          great product
This was the first time that i have worked with this material. Diferent workability than the standard silicone type i have previously used. Once this product has cured out it is bulletproof! I ended up using this product on a custom concrete sill i fabricated, but believe this to be formulated for exterior applications mainly.

Great solution for cracks in basement concrete. Warming the tubes prior to using worked perfectly. It remains tacky so in my case the carpet and padding covered all spaces.

While residing my home with Hardie Siding I was looking at caulking for the edges. Hardie recommends a polyurethane sealer so I chose this Vulkem 116. Other than the lengthy time it took to be delivered to my local Home Depot, I have been very impressed with the sealant itself. Applies normally, in warmer weather I painted it the next day and the paint covered it perfectly. It's appearance seems a little grainy which is fine with siding and exterior trim boards, but I'm not sure I would use it on smooth services like indoor trim.

Tremco / Vulkem 116 has been my go to product for exterior sealing and repair work for 30 years. It' the best of the polyurethanes for adhesion, elasticity, uniform application qualities, color choices, and longevity. On my old farm buildings and house as well as commercial properties where I've used 116, many applications are still going strong after 25+ years. My latest use of 116 was to secure Recycled Rubber Pavers in place on a patio renovation at my house. It worked as an excellent adhesive for this application.

Easy to work with sealed area easily , Good elasticity didn't crack or shrink and paintable. I used to seal siding, and around my front porch where it connects to the house, its been over 4 years and still looks good and is water tight. Some of the best stuff I have ever used. A Plus

              best product on the market
We used it to caulk and seal our windows and to seal the seams on the house when we painted it. The caulk is wonderful - it seals completely and contracts and expands with the weather to ensure excellent coverage. Paint sticks to it, so once it's applied and dry, you can paint right over it. We won't use any other caulk.

Good stuff, hard to work with
Purchased to fill driveway expansion joints. Project was to place to low voltage lighting front of house.I used previous reviews which were helpful and expect a rough go. I used the driveway to run the wire and used the expansion joints to run the wire front of house. Dug out about 1/2 to 3/4 inch of the joint, ran the wire then filled in the joint with sand. I did not need use power caulk gun, manual was ok. I taped the area next to the joint. I did need to run a bead of caulk along the concrete to make it stick. it would clump up to much if I didn't. Instead of alcohol was able to use paint thinner and my finger as putty knife. Worked great. Had plenty of rags to keep hands clean. Was able to get a very smooth finish using this method. Caulk does stay tacky for a couple of days, Since I'm using the garage for autos, used some plywood to make a small ramp to go over the caulk. After final drying, caulk seems very flexible and looks great. Will add report in couple of months to see how it stands up. I used 4 tubes for this project.
