I want to build a cat shelf for my kitten to lay on. I'm planning on creating hexagonal boxes to float on the walls. Will this be sturdy enough for a cat to jump on? And can I mount it to a wall?

I would use 1/2" plywood for a cat, and 3/4" for a dog or human. Even 3/8" is going unless you also have a middle support or use plywood. You might want to look at maple plywood. Very smooth surface and strong. It is often use for cabinets. You can get trim wood for the edges. When I made shelving I used 1/2" maple plywood with 3/4" end trim wood. This is pretty common for proper built-in shelving units. You should do something similar. 1"+ is only needed for flooring.

In the pictures, it shows a pack of 100. This can be misleading but 100 sheets of plywood is gonna cost a bit more than 11 dollars, lol.

My flooring person asked that I verified with you that your underlayment product is fine (suitable) for vinyl floor tiles. Please advise. Thanks

Welcome to todays world of thin "underlayment." The spec's are all kept secret. I've been unable to find 1/4" APA UNderlayment anywhere in the County.

Would this be good for shelving in a closet?

Asked by: IllDoItMyself
I would use 1/2" maple plywood. It is my go to shelving material.
