Questions & Answers

How do I determine the depth of my expansion joints? Also, if the joint is narrow but deep, will the correct width product be okay even if the joint is deeper than what the specs say?
ByOct 27, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Yes, it is not mandatory that the product reach the bottom. The 1" product is self supporting. The depth of the product is listed to ensure that Trim-A-Slab can be pushed all the way down into the expansion joint to be properly installed.

If my expansion joint is 3 inches deep do I need to fill it in to a certain depth before I install this product? The joint is 1 inch wide.

      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

It is only necessary to backfill when using the largest size product (1-3/8), with the 1in product it is optional.

Should the channel space/depth be cleared of dirt collection before installing so as to provide adequate depth for trim a slab? Also, if the gap measures 1" at the top of the channel, is the 1" the correct size to order?
        ByJun 14, 2023
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Yes, you only need to remove enough for the product to sit flush. Also, the size of the gap correlates to the size of the product, a 1" gap would require the 1" product. Thanks

Why is this so expensive? $4.00 per foot is outrageous
            BySep 21, 2022
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

This is a long term resolution that won't have to be replaced in upcoming years like other expansion joint solutions often need. That is why we also offer a warranty on our product. The warranty info can be found on our website.

I have a gap of 1 1/8? on one side of my driveway to 7/8? on the other side. Will this stay in place on the 1 1/8? side or is the gap too large?

                Answer This Question

I think so. Hard to know with out trying. But the profile is larger than the specified gap, as shown on the dimensional chart provided and on the web site..

Looks Better Than the Empty Space Between the Slabs
I previously used the Trim-A-Slab Walnut color expansion joint filler on my back patio where I have 12" x 12" Saltillo tiles and around the pool deck. I used 25 feet of this 1" and 75' (one 50' roll and one 25' roll) of the 3/4" to do the drive way and the sidewalk leading to the front door. Once you clean out the joints between the concrete slabs it is a straight forward installation. Because this product comes in a tightly wound roll I recommend unrolling it and allowing it to sit in the sun for a few hours to make it easier to handle and apply.

                      This product is great
I bought this expansion joint replacement product rather than buying backer rod and self leveling sealant. Once I cleaned out the gaps, installing the trim-a-slab took only minutes. So much easier than using the sealant. It has been more than a month in the middle of summer and no weeds. No worries of the sealant pulling free from the concrete. If it pushes out due to freeze-thaw cycles, just push it back in.

                        Easy install
Installed it in 15 mins. Too early to give durability review. But it looks sturdy and snugged fit. Hammered it in on edges.

                          It works
Expansion wooden joint by my garage has rotten badly. I came across this product while browsing the Internet for info on how to replace the wooden joint. I was skeptical at first since it's not cheap in compare to pressure treated wood. I am so happy that I've made a right choice. The product is super easy to install and look great. Just wonder how long it would last and how it is going to behave in winter.

Very happy so far with our purchase, I am attaching pics from installation a few weeks ago. As all of our original felt expansion joint deteriorated we needed to do something before winter. So first dug out all the old, then used 1/2” x 4 foam expansion joint, trimmed it and topped it off with this product for a very nice finished look. A little more costly but hoping it will be worth it in the long run. Time will tell how it will hold up in our Illinois winters. We try to buy as many American made products as we can and support our American families. Thank you!

This worked perfectly to fill the gaps on my 16 & 8 foot wide garage doors. It goes in with a dead blow hammer & stays in place allowing no water into the gap. Looks great too!

Excellent product & decent price ($1.50 per foot). Easy to install. Very resilient to the elements & cleans very easily. I managed to fill varying gaps from 3/4" to 1/4" with this roll. 1/4" was very tight and took a lot of slow & easy patience. 3/4" was nearly too big but stayed snug. The majority of my area was 5/8" (see pic)
