21 in. 160 cc Honda Gas Walk Behind Push Mower with High Rear Wheels and 3-in-1 Cutting TriAction Cutting System is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 327.

I bought it primarily because it was the lowest priced push mower with a Honda engine. I check the oil maybe twice per season. If it is a little low, I’ll add oil but I’ve never changed the oil. I think I remember putting a new spark plug in it once and that wasn’t because it wouldn’t start. At the end of the season if it has gas in it, I’ll put a capful of Stabil in it and run it for a few minutes then in the garage it goes until Spring. First mow of the new season it always starts on the third or fourth pull and in season it starts first pull every time. These Honda engines are pretty much bulletproof. The plastic pull handle broke once and I got a new one for about $5. The mower deck has a few holes rusted in it, the wheels have become a little wobbly over the last few years and I finally put a new blade on it after 10 years but that Honda engine keeps on running. More than likely the mower itself will give out before the engine does. The brand of mower you buy doesn’t really matter, just make sure it has the Honda engine.

Ease of wheel adjustment is nice. The only issue I seem to be having is the so called front rake plastic piece. The two times I have used it I struggled pushing it through my yard, it seems the rake part digs in the ground and tears up the grass probably 80% of mowing. After examining the deck from underneath it appears the plastic shroud part hangs down to low, which is the factor in tearing up the yard. Unless the deck is almost at max height the mower can't be used to mow short usually in the spring and fall. It's the weirdest thing I've seen in 50 years of mowing. I sure hope Troy-Bilt has a answer or solution or I'll have to take it back. F.Y.I. the front plastic rake thing can't be removed it holds on the wheel assembly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Push Mower for under $300 It's funny how we will read hundreds of reviews for a product costing less than $500 and do so little research on things that cost so much more. That being said i guess you could say I am old school. What I really wanted was a self-propelled mower with a Honda engine, because they last just about forever. Over the years I've owned Briggs, Cub Cadet, Honda, Kohler, Kawasaki and Subaru Robin. I've repaired them, rebuilt carburetors for them--even changed a connecting rod on a Briggs engine in my youth. The Subaru Robin might just be the best, but Subaru ceased production, making parts availability sketchy. Therefore I wanted ideally: a self propelled mower with a big Honda engine, a throttle control to adjust engine speed, an adjustable choke, and a blade brake allowing me to idle it down, but leave it running without the blades spinning if stepping away for a minute. I don't feel like I'm asking a lot. Yet to find a mower with the features I described it is every penny of 499 for the Honda with blade stop and even then I don't believe you get an adjustable choke. Since I felt that was just too much for a new mower (I'd rather put that toward a riding one), I opted for the Troybilt TB160. My thinking was this: it has the same Honda engine as the Honda mowers and unless I spend 499 I won't get adjustable throttle, adjustable choke, or a blade brake anyway. It's a push mower... how hard could it really be to push the thing? That's where my whole thinking process sort of fell apart. After using it for 30 minutes I texted a friend of mine: "Had to take a treadmill test with a cardiologist prior to surgery once and I thought I was gonna drop dead in his office. Troybuilt has successfully recreated that experience with their model TB160 push mower. Instead of a grass catcher it should come with a defibrillator." But you know what? That is not the fault of Home Depot, Honda or Troybilt! So here is the good news for those of you capable of handling a push mower. Assembly took perhaps five minutes. They give you the oil for the machine you add that first you put a couple of bolts with wing nuts on them and that's about all it takes. It truly did start on the very first start. It ran correctly there was no sputtering no knocking no black smoke I mean it was a textbook example of how their automatic choke and throttle should work. I can tell you it has tremendous power. I ran thru grass over a foot high with the deck right in the middle of the height adjustments. it did not bog down the blade, the engine did not slow down. It flat out cuts through anything. I was not bagging it because it was just too much to try to bag in my estimation. But I was absolutely blown away that I could push it through that kind of grass at the speed I was trying to move (as if it were a self-propelled cutting medium high dry grass). If you think you can handle a push mower this, I believe is the best you will find for under $300. I no longer have concerns about the automatic throttle and choke. I even shut it down hot and it restarted on the first pull 6 separate times. I wanted to see if I could experience the choke issues others have reported, but not once did I encounter any issues. The TB160 absolutely functioned flawlessly. The operator... not so much. I am just leaving Home Depot after purchasing the Honda model HRR2110VKA SKU: 404997 for $399. Home Depot graciously accepted return of the Troy built TB160. I am confident that this new mower will help the operator function, if not flawlessly, at least a lot better. I no longer anticipate the need for a defibrillator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best push mower made today I just tore through 10-14 inch high semi-wet grass with this beast yesterday. It never bogged down on the highest deck setting. The Honda engine purrs like a cat and has tons of power. The rear wheels make it easy to maneuver. I have a feeling this will last a long time. It outperformed all others I have owned, including self propelled which just adds unnecessary weight. The set up and instructions were easy to follow.

Full disclosure: I just purchased the unit today, assembled and mowed my front and back yard of approximately 5K sf. The flip side, I have owned over 25 mowers in my lifetime (no exaggeration), so I know a good machine when I see one. After thoroughly researching, I was hunting for value. I didn't need the features such as self propelling. But having owned a Honda mower several years ago and having had a good experience, I wanted the Honda motor on my next machine. I also wanted the 21" cut width, my prior Honda mower was smaller. Assembly was super easy, adjusted the handle, added oil and gas, first pull, the mower quietly started right up. Love the way the Honda motor sounds - solid and effortless. Also, another top priority with this mower for me was a clean grass catcher that easily would collect the grass without clippings blowing all over. The gasket on this mower is well constructed and left the cleanup post cutting to a very minimal job. Of course, the true test of the mower is several years down the road, but I believe this one will do the job.

First, I live in Arizona and plant rye winter grass to keep from only weeds growing during the winter. This is thick, wet grass, and my one year old Ryobi 40 volt cordless just can't handle it. I had owned and used a Black and Decker cordless that used a lead acid battery for more than a decade, but when I needed a new mower, only thing I can find is lithium powered. Take my advice, if your mower chokes out a few times, you need a new $150 lithium battery! So, was looking for a reliable gas mower, basically narrowed it down to this with a Honda engine, or a Honda for $130 more. This took me about 30 minutes to assemble, but that was mainly because I ignored the first page that says "pay attention, important, read me first". Duh. Started up on second pull, and since I'm now 60, that's important! Couldn't have used more than a quarter cup of gas to mow the yard, no choking out, no bogging down. Very nice. The Honda did have self propelled, so if that is important to you, it may be worth the extra $130, but this is an excellent choice for cheaper.

Hard to review...they always ask so soon after purchase one has no idea as to longevity. But two things come to mind. Easy to adjust FRONT wheels, but back wheel adjuster can not be used without removing rear wheel on the side of the adjuster. Removing the screw is all that is needed, actually easy to do..but weird. Second, it has an automatic choke. Sounds good IF and only if it works reliability year after year OR if it has any sort of manual override...which it does not. My old Honda engine...still working after 25 years, you heard right, has a Manuel choke. I predict this one will fail after a short time, jamming open or closed and then need mechanical work to give back what the old system already has. But that remains to be seen, as I said reviews right after purchase offer very little usefulness. The bag fits tight, blade sharp AFTER you sharpen it, it comes coated with rubber but sharpening off the rubber not hard. Blade is very fragile, after second use destroyed blade by hitting a pre fab plank. NOT all Honda blades fit, do take old blade with you, the chart provided at Home Depot did not seem to corolate well, but I did find exact fit in a bin marked Troy built.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bad design First of all I have to say out of the box was easy assembly. Put oil and gas in it and it started first pull. That being said I have to say I did not like the front rake feature they put on it. It made it difficult to push on uneven parts of the yard. It would scalp my yard. I am 58 years old and never have had a issue like this. Adjustment didn't matter as the grass would have been cut too high. I wish Troy Bilt would relook at this issue. I did take it back to Home Depot and they without any questions took it back and I repurchased one WITHOUT THE RAKE FEATURE.
