The machine itself is the ultimate tiller. On delivery there was some assembly required because it couldn’t be shipped fully assembled. The manual was somewhat confusing and the illustrations could have been better. My Pony model circa 1980 had a much better manual. There was a separate manual for the engine which also could have been better. The engine oil provided was not enough to meet the level specified in the manual. Also, the throttle control on the handle bar was not installed properly at the engine and had to be adjusted correctly so it would work. The machine itself is very well built and had it not been for the minor issues described above, it deserves five stars!

This purchase was very very disappointing. My dad had a troy bilt for 40 years it was great. So i bought one. I got it assembled but never could even get a spark out of it, after trying for 4 days. I returned it. Where is quality control? Pathetic that a company with such a good reputation is ruining it with a poor quality. I am now looking for another tiller.

            It will outlast you
Bought it in 1984, when I was 25. Just passed in on, still starts with one pull.

Troy Bilt was nine oz short of engine oil. Yoke plate bolt was not long enough for the lock nut to work. The tines/PTO clutch lever bolt was so loose that after tilling only 20 feet, the bolo tines shaft quit turning, there was a gear clicking noise in the transmission unit. I hope this did not damage any of the gears in the transmission, I adjusted and tightened the clutch lever and bolt. The two swing out bolts that connect the power transmission to the tine attachment were very loose. Three of the bolts that attach the yoke pivot link were very loose. Gear oil leak at transmission and tine attachment mounting and the base bolt for the handle bar assembly was very loose. This is not acceptable! My first Troy Bilt purchased in 1984, I was still able to use but wanted a newer model. That was an excellent machine - this is poor quality out the manufacturing door.

              Piece Of Crap
I paid big money for the Big Red tiller, this thing won't even till ground that is a little hard. The throttle don't work, depth selector is very hard to work. The handle adjustment don't work. Battery cable cover don't fit on the battery post. Troy Bilt will not even get back to my requests. Do Not Buy!
