I Can See Its Use, But Not For Me
The Troy-Bilt 208cc is 4 Star for people who live where they get very little snow and have concrete surfaces to clear. The Electric Start works well. So does the Manual Pull Rope (1st Pull). Reasons for taking away a Star … it is shipped with no padding; just in a cardboard box (see pic). It comes with 5 Brochures; a lot to read. No Quick User Guide. I hate when Manuals are for numerous Models (e.g. “For models with an adjustable handle (a) (figure 3), proceed with Step 4”). It is confusing. It comes with a bag of Oil, but no mention do you add all of it or half of it? I wasted a lot of time adding and measuring, to finally realize you add it all (when new oil is added, it sticks to the side and is clear. Hard to get a good read on a dipstick). The Control Lever pops out of place, if you do not release it slowly. For me, this Snow Blower is not a good fit. I live in the lower Hudson Valley. We seldom get snow, but when we do it can be heavy. We just had 8”. I was able to tilt the Snow Blower up and push through the top 6”. Literally push, because this is propelled by the Auger, not by the wheels. The good news, it threw it about 20’ and never clogged the chute. The bad news, it being propelled by the Auger, I could never get it to pull. I have brick, gravel, stone and asphalt. I assume it needs a total flat surface (concrete) to actual pull? On gravel, the Augers ‘sweeping action’, sprays dirt/gravel everywhere (I won’t try that again). When I got to the Apron, where the Town Plows had pushed snow (i.e. the hardest part of snow removal), this struggled. I assume it would struggle with only 6" too.

    Powerful Machine, comes 99% assembled
Full disclosure, it hasn’t snowed yet where I am in the Midwest, so this has only been fired up in clear conditions. The best thing about this is that of you order it, it’s 99% ready to go out of the box, you literally just have to put the two wing syrup bolts through the handle and it’s done. It also even comes with the pre measured about of oil to put in in a separate bag so all you need is gas and it’s good to go. The electric start just uses any extension cord plugged into an outlet and you push a button and it’s done. The first start takes a second as gas is getting into the system but after that it’s as easy and push button car start. It comes with two keys which is nice (you don’t turn the keys, they are just safety's which meet to be in place to run). I had a smaller on of these years ago around 120-130 cc, this one at 208 is going to be amazing once the white stuff starts falling.

A Quality Medium Duty Snow Blower
This Troy Bilt Squall 21 inch 208 cc electric start single stage gas snow blower is a nice medium sized snow blower for some one that does not need to move very deep snow. It seems the only limit to this snow blower is that it does not move very deep snow and it should be fine with 6 or 8 inches of snow. The 21 inch width and 13 inch height limits the the amount of snow and it should throw the snow about 25 feet depending on the snow conditions. The assembly was fairly easy and the instructions I found a bit confusing because they covered three different models of this snow blower. They supply 40 oz. of the 5w30 oil needed in a convenient pouch style container. The snow blower started easily with the pull starter and it has an electric start if needed in colder weather. The choke control is kind of hidden just under the cowling. As this model does not have a throttle to control the speed you pull out the key to stop the machine. The only other control is the auger control lever which engages the auger system which propels the snow blower and throws the snow. On this model the E-Z Chute is manually moved in either direction and it has a top adjustment to angle the height of snow. I am pleased with this Troy-Bilt Gas Snow Blower and it should do a good job as long as you know its limits which is basically the amount and height of the snow it can move at one time. The handle of the snow blower can easily be folded to take up less room when stored. It seems very well built and a quality product. It comes with a three year limited warranty.

    Pretty decent little snow blower
This is a 208 cc snow blower, from checking around that's usually in the 5.5-6.5 hp range which is pretty good for a machine this size. So far this year I've only gotten a small amount of show and this handled it no problem. It comes about 80% assembled which is nice you just need to attach the chute and put the handle bar up taking maybe 10 min. The electric start is fantastic to have. I love that I don't need to worry about a battery or anything like that just plug it in start it then unplug it. This makes it much easier for my wife to use and my mom who's in her 60's says she may even try because its so simple to get started. The snow blower will pull its self forward so that is something to be conscious of while using it but to get it to stop you just pick up the front a little so controlling the machine is no issue. The oil drain port is in a good spot it looks like oil changes will be very simple to do, from my looking it doesn't appear to have an air filter on it so don't run it in the summer time or when there's dust as that will potentially damage the engine. The belt does have its own panel so getting to it should be pretty simple and easy to do without having to take the whole cover off. I do like also that the paddles or blades are user serviceable, so its about 6 bolts to get it off then you just put the new one on making the most worn part easy to replace for the most part its a pretty serviceable machine. There are a few issues which I address next. For the things I don't like first and this is just an annoyance with most snow blowers in this size, the big plastic cover, I know it looks nice but it makes maintaining the machine more time consuming so to change the spark plug instead of disconnecting the wire pulling the old one putting a new one in and then reconnecting it this machine you have to pull the chute off, then I have to pull the whole red cover off then I can replace the spark plug and then have to put everything back, its just an annoyance that I think will make people do less maintenance on the machine themselves. Next issue is the exhaust comes out on the back left side which is fine but its not labeled, so a potential burn hazard that is right next to the user that isn't labeled. My last complaint and this one is actually pretty big, there's no fuel shut off valve or fuel drain valve. This is something so essential for people to have a good experience year after year with the machine is shutting off the fuel to keep the carburetor from getting gunked up. This is my reason for knocking off a star, everything else about the machine is nice and the other complaints are more of a preference thing but not having the fuel shutoff just means that more of these will end up in repair shops or in land fills over a gunked up carburetor and that's not acceptable. I will be adding one of my own to it and probably cutting away some of the nice looking plastic to get it in an accessible location. And I hate cutting plastics on brand new things but I know myself and if its not easy to get to I may risk it when putting it away and have a machine that I have to rebuild the carb on before it'll work for the next season.

Good entry level snow blower for much of the country.
This is a good entry level gas snow blower. It’s a step above all of the electric models I have been using. I like this model with the larger 208cc motor. That is enough power for my needs. I don't have to worry about a battery (that costs as much as the snow blower) running out of power like the cordless electric models. The electric start is a great feature when it’s really cold out; though I will comment that the recessed plug area is too small for several of my extension cord ends so I can’t just grab any extension cord. I have to find one that fits. If they would have made the recessed area just a tad larger that wouldn’t be a problem. The rubber auger appears to be a good idea and it works really well right now as the machine is new. I am not sure how well that is going to age, but it appears to be a replaceable part that can be ordered when it wears out. This product should keep up with the snowfalls in my area as they are usually 8 inches or less. Maybe once a year we get a foot or more, and I am curious to see how it works in that depth of snow. I enjoy being out in the snow and am really looking forward to the next big one so I can really put this unit to the test.

    Easy to Operate
This is a very nice and easy to operate snow thrower. The Troy Built Squall 21 in. is just the correct size for my wife to use. This model comes with a 208 cc Engine that has plenty of power. My wife plugs it in to an extension cord and with the Electric Start it fires up with ease, it also starts with one pull of the manual pull start. This is a Single-Stage, Gas Snow Blower and the E-Z Chute Control makes this a powerful but simple machine to use. And it's built in America. Just don't plan on using it on step drives, its excellent on flat surfaces.

    What a great smaller snowblower.
I really like tis Troy-Bilt Squall 21" snowblower. The brand itself is known for it's quality, and this model is no exception. This snowblower comes fully assembled in the box. In a nutshell, simply extend the handle, add the included oil, fill it up, and go. Very simple to use. No bells or whistles. Perfect for those smaller snowfalls. This will not easily clear a foot of snow bit that is not what it is designed for. However, it will happily handle those storms if you go out there and after every few inches.

    Great for flat sidewalks
I have had several electric single stage blowers and this gas model is a hundred times better. But that's only half the story. As it is gas, it is a bit heavier, like a lawn mower and on slippery or sloped surfaces, it can easily get away from you. Having it pull you down the driveway or slide off to the side as you reach around to adjust the chute direction is a bit scary. You have to yank the chute controls to change it's direction, but that can be good, as it won't vibrate and move on it's own. However, make sure the chute's adjustment screws are tight. I went down the driveway the first time I used it and the bolts all fell out and went flying. The chute diverter is not tight, and snow leaks out around the edge with the adjustment tightening knob. The motor did start on the first pull, but kneeling down to adjust the motor speed is difficult for older knees. There is a receptacle for electric start, but a cord was not included, so I could not try it out. Shutting it off was as simple as pulling the safety key out, but there was no tether included so the key would not get lost. And for those with driveways, this only threw the snow about five feet. So that will mean re-blowing snow possibly several times for those with wide driveways. My tests were with only about 1.5 inches of fluffy snow, so deeper or wetter snow may go less or more distance. I did not see that the motor speed control made much of a difference from medium to high. It came dry, so the included bottle of oil must be added. Be sure to pour slowly as I went to fast and it bubbled up and out of the fill tube. A nice alternative for those that get infrequent or light snow, but I live in Idaho with a 3 car wide driveway, so I will be sticking with my 2 stage blower for now.

No more snow in my DriveWay, Very Easy to Operate.
I would recommend Troy Bilt Squall 21 in. 208 cc Electric Start Single-Stage Gas Snow Blower with E-Z Chute Control. It comes ready to put together with a few parts, easy to follow directions. I had this up and out of the box and using it within know time. It works very efficient at removing the snow from my driveway and walkway. Easy to start right up with no problems. With the Auger assisted drive system makes it very easy to move in corners or up and down my driveway. Easy to store away, it folds up for storage. It has enough power to throw snow up to 25 feet away. This is a great addition to my winter tools.

Great for large driveways and sidewalks
I live in the suburbs and have a large driveway. My old snow blower refused to start without starting fluid and a dozen or more pulls on the pull starter. By the time I got it started I was almost too tired to use it! I LOVE the electric starter on this Troy-Bilt snow blower! It's easy to use and the design of the blade gives it an assist to propel. It's not a full blown self propelled unit, but the blade does a fair amount of the work for you. The 208 cc engine gives it plenty of power to throw snow to the far edges of the driveway while still giving it the boost to pull it up the driveway. The only thing it's missing is the small shovel for clearing out the chute and blade areas. Otherwise it comes with everything else you need (except gasoline) to put it to work straight out of the box!
