12 in. Steel Round Air Diffuser Damper

This and its companion, the mating diffuser, are by far the most infuriating, substandard products I have ever purchased. While I admit that the framing around the duct opening could have been done better (blame the idiot remodeling contractor who 32 years ago installed the original unit that now needed to be replaced because the finish on the diffuser had yellowed, and the old plastic damper operating mechanism disintegrated in my hands), there is no excuse for the poor design and execution of the products which are the subject of this review. After I installed the damper and attached the diffuser, I was met by the nasty surprise of the operating key was too long, even after I trimmed off the tip section. Now I assume from others' comments and that by design, the key is meant to be removed after adjusting the damper, but that is pure idiocy. Question: What are the odds that homeowners will be able to find the key the next time they need it? Answer: ZERO! The old unit's key was firmly attached to the diffuser and was aesthetically well integrated. So, I ended up adapting the old key to work with the new unit to obtain the desired finished look (see photo). The lesson learned is that Home Depot can offer low prices because many of these crummy products are made in Asia, in this case Vietnam. I have run into these types of issues before, but I obviously have not learned my lesson. I get lured in by the prices, and the apparent simplicity of the product, only to find that it is worse than garbage. So a word of advice: Shop carefully, and take care to examine your application and the product you are considering. Pay more if necessary, because time is money, and we can least afford to waste either. Good luck. By the way, the actual brand name is "Everbilt", not TruAire as listed online.

I bought these to replace similar units that had a broken nylon adjustment screw

Nice snug fit and easy to install. The price seems a bit high but there doesn't seem to any decent alternatives for this size.

The dimensions do not comply to documentation. The overall diameter for example is one inch less than specified

It works just as it should but it is not white it is sort of a putty color and looks pretty ugly up on the ceiling.

I was unable to find this item anywhere and I ordered it from Home Depot. It was the right fit and it works amazingly well!
