The community answer "The diameter of the induction element is 7" so the base of the pan recommended is 7". You can use larger pans if you like, as long as you understand the heat may not reach the outer edges of the pan which will require you to move the food around in the pan." is almost correct with the following additional information: a 7 inch burner had a magnetic field of 8 inches, in addition if you use a good 3 ply pan the cooking area could reach all the way to the edge of that 10 inch pan.

Our Mini Duo is rated at 1800 watt maximum. The burners utilize a power sharing technology. The maximum power of an individual burner level is a setting of 10. When operating both burners, their combined total is level 10. With power sharing, the two burners will self adjust levels accordingly. When you increase the power of one side, the power output of the other side will reduce automatically. For example, one side is at 6, the other burner automatically reduces power to level 4 creating a total maximum power setting of 10.
Yes, cast iron is induction compatible cookware. However, keep in mind this unit utilizes power-sharing technology. The maximum power of an individual burner level is at setting 10. But, when operating both burners their combined total is level 10, meaning that when operating the two burners at the same time they'll self-adjust levels accordingly. Take into consideration that cast iron will retain heat longer than most cookware. For this reason, you will not need to set the burners to a high level. An operating level of 5 or 6 should produce a significant amount of heat for the cast iron skillet. See the product manual included in this listing for additional details on induction cooking and power-sharing technology.
The optimal cookware should have a flat bottom and a diameter of 4.5" - 10" inches.
