How do you get handle to extend , i can not get mine to budge....

Okay, I had the same problem: I extended the pole and tightened it and then I could not loosen it again. The product allows the user to tighten the basket by twisting it in either direction from the middle. What I remembered doing to tighten the extender is I twisted the pole attached to the basket in the counter-clockwise direction (with basket pole being held in my left hand) and I twisted the bottom part of the pole in the clockwise direction (being held in my right hand). Hopefully you are able to remember physically what direction you twisted the pole with each hand. I then got a pair of channel locks and with a piece of fabric (so I would scratch the finish) and I GENTLELY clamped on the pole attached to the basket and twisted it in the CW direction while holding the bottom part steady with my right hand, and it loosened. The key is the muscle memory and trying to remember what you did to tighten the pole and then just reverse the direction of the twisting to loosen the pole.

Does the basket screw onto the pole?

No it does not screw onto the pole. The metal wires from the basket are shaped at the bottom to fit snugly on the pole end. There is a metal cinch to tighten the wires around the pole. This can be done with a flathead screwdriver.

The Fruit Harvester made by True Temper
The telescoping handle stuck after 6 months use. The unit was hardly used and kept in mint condition. The aluminum handle should not rust after a short time because it has 15 years warranty. Home Depot refused to provide a replacement unit.

Good Ivestment
When one gets older it is not wise to be climbing on ladders, thus the purchase of a fruit picker. As you can see in the photo my feet are planted firmly on the ground and I'm able to reach and pick a bounty of fresh fruit from my trees. Nothing like growing and eating fresh oranges and grapefruit, and now I can do it safely from the ground thanks to my fruit picker I purchased from Home Depot. Additionally, as the tree gets taller I can use the telescoping feature to reach the highest fruit. Reach the fruit, position picker over the fruit and pull its that easy as the fruit drops into the basket.

Perfect
I have 2 pear trees and a peach tree in my backyard. I was trying to pick the fruit standing on a ladder (not the safest way). I was able to get to the fruit a lot easier with this fruit picker. The extension worked very well and didn't have a balance problem when extended because of its light weight. Very easy to use.

Not good
Not easy to adjust length, no instructions with product or online, expensive. Handle is fiberglass, not aluminum.

This product was very helpful!
I have never used a fruit picker before, but I must say it's very helpful and accurate in picking the fruit from our tall trees and spots that we couldn't reach.

This telescoping fruit picker works well, comes with a foam pad in the bottom of the basket to soften the landing of the fruit. The telescope is a nice feature, but overall the price of $45 is a bit high for this product. All in all, I'm very happy with it.
