Q:Does the drain need to be anchored within the concrete or can it be used as a transitional piece between concrete/tile and soil/lawn? If it doesn?t have to be anchored, is it best to put down a layer of drain rock to prevent settling?

      Answer This Question

A:  Not sure it would do much in your lawn...French drain is better for that. I put it in concrete with rebar stakes in front of the garage. You could use it in your concrete or tile and transition to French drain.

A:  The drain doesn't need to be anchored if using concrete. The concrete will anchor the drain when it flows between the gaps at the feet of the channel preventing floating. IF no concrete is used, it is okay to rebar and tie to the gaps of the feet of the channel.

A:  It would seem that compacted gravel would work if you don’t expect any side pressure on the trench. In my case the trench was U shaped (two 90 degree pieces) and since the straight sections can only be cut at certain places there was a gap between my concrete patio and the trench, so I needed concrete filler anyway.

I used the Grates on my deck where my eaves drip to allow the water to pass through instead of splashing up on the side of the house. Perfect fit, replaced the first row of deck boards. Wish I would have had these when I put the deck in. Should eliminate replacing clapboards every few years.

Good for walkways but not stout enough for automobile traffic. It only has provisions for being cut at eight inch intervals. Turning a corner when not being able to cut on the eight inch provision molded into the drain trench to be connected with the provided snap half ring means that the two pieces float rather than connect together. Good for straight line drain usage.

First let me say I do lots of research, and read tons of reviews when determining a cost effective solution for a project. However I ONLY write reviews on EXCEPTIONAL products..... Value for price of this product was excellent. I could not find a cheaper solution anywhere other than Home Depot. I was concerned with quality since the cost was low, but these drains were strong, robust, and fit together tight and easy. No additional hardware was required. I was adding the drain for surface water collection under my deck, where years of settling had pitched the ground towards the house. These worked perfect, and allowed me to lay sheet plastic into them and snap the covers on to maximize water collection. Excellent low cost solution for my problem! I have already recommended these to others in my mountainous area with the same problem.

Quick shipping. Straight-forward installation. 'Extras' / 'Accessories' expensive (and some, such as the foam tape for expansion , along the sides, 'required' for installation, should be included... Time will tell if it lasts.

Installation was easy. I used a crushed granite base instead of concrete. It looks good and works good. I only wonder how long it will last since it is plastic, but only time will tell.

I needed a shallow channel drain and this fit my needs. The price is very good and it was easy to install. I used it in a patio to divert the water runoff from the basement.

This shallow trench drain worked well for an entrance walkway that had a problem with "ponding" water. I connected it to a 3" 90° PVC elbow straight into a 4" corrugated drain pipe. It's able to keep up with the heaviest downpours in Florida. ;) No more trudging through ankle deep water, or the silt that remained after the fact!
