The appeal of reclaimed wood and rustic wood makes this perfect for projects around the house. Each new board is machined and pre-finished on one side to give a distressed appearance and to highlight the woods rough sawn texture. These products are not recommended for outdoor applications. If used for exterior applications, wood protector sealant is required. Color will vary from board to board and lot to lot due to natural characteristics of wood. A: No, it’s not stain all the way through. We bought paint to match pretty close to the color. When we cut it we try to have it where you could not see it as much. We still painted any cut pieces.

high quality, small premium
I purchased these because I was feeling lazy when redoing a TV area and didn’t want to stain and sand the wood. This worked very well and was not much more expensive.
The only downside here (and it’s obvious) when you cut the wood the edges aren’t stained so you need to find a matching stain to make it work.

I don't think I've ever written a review before, but I thought I would on this one. First I'd like to set the record straight on some of the poor reviews stating this is not "Real Barn Wood". The first sentence of the description says "This factory-milled board is primed and painted to mimic the natural texture and patina of aged and weathered barn wood". So No! It's not actual barn wood. It is factory made rough cut lumber made to resemble barn wood.
I did have to dig through the stock to find enough straight boards to build my headbord/footboard. Leaning on a rack at an angle can warp the board over time. But with a little effort and time I did find the 25 boards I needed for my project. If you don't find enough, try another location or ask a manager if you don't have another store near by (I realize some areas don't).
Since I took the time to pick out the straight boards, there was no work needed to try to fit them in place. They were easy to work with but I would suggest gloves to avoid the splinters you can get because it is rough cut. A rough sand with some 80 grit sandpaper to get the splinters off and still leave a weathered texture and look was all they needed. 2 coats of whitewash (1st one with the grain, the 2nd against) followed by 2 coats of clear polyurethane and I got exactly what I wanted.

awesome inexpensive wood to make rustic floating shelves
This is what ive been looking for. It worked perfect for floating shelves next to our 4K tv upstairs. My only complaint is the material chips/flakes easily, but nothing a grey washable marker cant fix. The color is best seen in store not correct online image. The picture with the shiplap and the staircase is about right though.

Really tough finding a straight piece, vast percentage of it is all twisted, very low quality.
