I have found that the lightweight/pumice type bricks promote quick fore starting, The dense red clay type bricks make it very hard to start the fire so I presume they are absorbing heat vs the lightweight ones that seem to reflect heat.
These bricks are used as a heat barrier inside the firebox.

You can use a high temp RTV silicone to secure the bricks!
Why? If they are inside the stove at a point they will be worn down and need replacing. Ours are always loosely placed for that reason.
