USG Sheetrock Brand Easy Sand 20 Joint Compound is a lightweight, setting-type compound with a 20-minute working time. USG setting-type joint compounds provide faster finishing of drywall interiors, even under slow drying conditions. Rapid chemical hardening and low shrinkage permit same-day finishing and usually next-day decoration. USG Sheetrock Brand Easy Sand 20 Joint Compound features an exceptional bond; virtually unaffected by humidity extremes. It is ideal for laminating double-layer systems, particularly fire-rated assemblies, and for adhering gypsum panels to above-grade concrete surfaces. May also be used for surface texturing and for filling, smoothing and finishing interior above-grade concrete. Note: Setting-type joint compounds should not be used for skim coating due to dryout concerns.

Bill- No, joint compound should not be used to "plaster" directly over cement board. Cement board is a substrate for tile. For Dry Untiled Areas—For small areas where the USG Durock® cement board will not be tiled, such as a board extending beyond the tiled area and abutting another surface, treat joints as follows. Seal USG Durock® cement board with Type 1 ceramic tile adhesive. (Mix four parts adhesive with one part water.) Embed USG Sheetrock® Brand joint tape over joints and treat fasteners with USG Sheetrock® Brand Durabond® setting-type joint compound (45 or 90) applied in conventional manner. Flat trowel USG Sheetrock® Brand setting-type joint compound over board to cover fasteners and fill voids to a smooth surface. Finish joints with at least two coats USG Sheetrock® Brand ready-mixed joint compound. Do not apply ready-mixed or setting-type joint compound over unsealed board
Ljcap- USG does not recommend Sheetrock® Brand Easy Sand™ 45 Setting-Type Joint Compound for thin skim coats.
Tomas Thank you for your inquiry. Easy Sand Setting type joint compound has a shelf life of up to 12 months under good storage conditions. There is a production date stamped on the bag. Be sure the compound you are using is within date. If the bag has gotten damp there could be small bits of hardened compound which act as an accelerator. Similarly, if there is hardened joint compound on your tools or bucket that will also accelerate the set time. Make sure you are thoroughly cleaning your bucket and tools each time you mix a batch. The mixing ratio for Easy Sand setting type joint compound is approximately 1 cup of clean drinkable water for every 3 cups of powder. Make sure you are using clean drinkable water at room temperature. Be sure when you are mixing the compound you are pouring the compound into the water. You do not want to pour water on the to compound.
Thank you for your inquiry. USG does not have coverage estimates for using joint compound for texturing, as it can vary depending on how thick it is applied. USG does not recommend using joint compounds for spray applied textures. We offer Tuf-Tex or Sheetrock Wall and Ceiling Spray Texture for knock down finishes.
Bryan- The Esay Sand 20 will set in approximately 35 minutes and can be sanded after it has completely dried.
xxxxxxxx- Gaps greater than 1/8" should be pre-filled with setting-type joint compound like the Easy Sand 45.

Joseph A true skim coat is a very thin application over the entire surface of the wall or ceilings. Easy Sand Joint compound cannot be applied at less than 1/8" over the entire surface of the board. It is not recommended for skim coating.
