I'm going to paint over wallpaper, the paper is stuck on the wall very well except in the area just above the baseboards and around the windows. I have pulled off the loose paper in these areas. After painting with oil based primer can I use this product to even out these areas and also can it be used to cover the wallpaper seems. thanks for your help.
Asked by: Jane
Jane Thank you for your inquiry. You are likely to get pin sized bubbles in the finish when you apply joint compound over wall paper or a previously painted surface. We recommend removing the wall paper and any glue before refinishing the wall. Hope this helps.

What do I need to do with this stuff to spray a texture on my walls with a hopper or do you even recommend this stuff? If not what stuff would you recommend? Thanks!

Add water and mix to get to a texture of honey. Use a drill with a paddle bit to mix it completely.

I have large parrots is this compound high in odor

Asked by: lfwinnie
Hard to say "high" in odor. It is there, no mistaking it. If that is your only concern, look for a sheetrock compound with low/no VOC level. There are other types you may want to look into. Some are, lightweight compound, dust control, ultra... Hope this helps

what is the significance of the lid colors?

Asked by: Bas
The green lid is all purpose with a “normal” dry time. There are also light weight, quick dry and low dust versions. One or more of these have a blue lid. There also may be others that I am not aware of. You have to check the label.

4.5 Gal. All-Purpose Pre-Mixed Joint Compound is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 377.

This joint compound is excellent and I highly recommend it for the first coat of mud (spackle). The consistency is perfect for the initial coat, just the right compromise between too "tight" (eg. peanut butter) and too creamy ("soupy"). The compound has surprisingly little tendency to fall off the spackling blade onto the floor (but will obviously spill if you are not careful, and certainly will spill easily if you dilute and restir it). The compound dries fairly quickly as well (obviously depending on temperature, humidity) and achieves a relatively hard consistency. It has good strength but is, of course, not as hard as plaster. The upside of that is that it sands relatively easily. For the topcoat(s) I recommend the dust control wallboard compound that Home Depot sells because it is even easier to sand, and you don't need to worry about the strength of the topcoat if you put it over a solid base sucha as this SHEETROCK brand all-purpose premixed joint compound.

This product has a consistency that makes it easy to apply, build-up, feather and smooth. So the process is quick. It's very adaptable to obtaining a superior three step finish. Set the job site conditions of temperature and relative humidity right, and there's no problem getting quick curing and a good production rate. Of course, managing airflow / air exchanges helps a lot! Like any compound, you can entrain air by overworking it. But if the product is fresh, drag and bubbles likely are a function of work technique rather than characteristic of this product. The compound cures with a fine density requiring minimal sanding. Rushing re-coats and aggressive screen sanding both are 'penny-wise, pound-foolish' with this product. The best project schedule allows this to thoroughly set and be prepped with a moderate touch.

I purchased this because the bucket purchased prior to this had mold growing on the inside, on the compound, the bucket and lid. I had this for a while and although I had prior buckets of the compound before that bucket was the first time I had mold grow on the compound. Hoping this new bucket last to projects end before mold starts groing inside on the compound again. This was a surprise to find as in the past a partial bucket of compound would last for a while. Hope so.

I had gone to a mud I had to mix in batches some years ago but I got sick of mixing it sooooo Not too long ago someone told me they had reformulated this stuff some time back Soooo I gave it a shot and apparently he was right. It spreads better than it used too and dries quicker. I had gotten tired of waiting 2-3 days for coats to dry which was why I went to one I had to mix. So far overnight is fine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to use but not Mold resistant I have been using this product for the past 2 years and it is easy to handle and spread. I do not use the whole bucket at once though. I always keep the lid closed when not in use. Recently opened it to use and the was mold growing on top of the mixture. Kind of disappointing. Makes me worried about using it in my bathroom walls now.

The easy sand advertised products do sand easily but are also a much softer product after curing, therefore if not careful while sanding, you can easily leave marks or grooves in compound which will stand out

Get used to one consistency and the next is different. That said, still love the product. No mess and I don't have to keep mixing batches. If I feel like working, I just go in and start.
