Q:How easy is this to trim? I have a hole that is 20.5" - is snapping off 3.5 inches evenly doable?

      Answer This Question

A:  If you have a metal straight edge and box blade it should be good.otherway is to cut the hole to fit the piece if possible.

      by|Mar 5, 2022

A:  It should be quite easy to remove 3.5". Simply score a line with a sharp blade at 3.5" on the room side of the piece. Since you are using 5/8" drywall you may want to score the line about 1)4" deep. The move the piece to the edge of a table with the 3 1/2" inch side extending beyond the edge of the table. Hold your hand on the 3 1/2" piece and wrap it quickly over the edge of the table. It should break cleanly along this line. Then run the blade along the backing paper to remove the 3 1/2" piece.

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. Use a utility knife with a sharp blade for scoring. Score through the paper and lightly into the core. Complete cutting by running knife through back paper for the length of the panel and snapping back to face. To break the panel core, securely grasp the board edges on both sides of the score line and snap board with a quick, firm movement. Thanks for choosing USG products.
