Questions & Answers

Can it be use for a car floor ? Under carpet.

Asked by: Carlos
This stuff is a tough, one inch thick mat. You will need a good pair of shears, not sissy scissors to cut it. It does generate some lint type of debris, but jeans are cotton, so there ya go. I don't know if car trim pieces would allow for that install related to the extra depth but I do not possess that experience. I have used it to make thermal curtains for an RV, as well as lining the closets and cabinets with it to prevent heat loss. Made it through a -19 degree weekend in Colorado warm and cozy in a 2 season RV. Hope this helps you make a decision. I have purchased it several times and I think it has great application uses.

I would strongly urge against it unless you like to live with rodents...they love cotton!

If fastened to a ceiling between joist, is it sturdy enough so that it won't droop/fall back out?

Or do I need staples or adhesive of some kind? (Planning on adding this insulation in withOUT finishing the basement, so ceiling joists will stay exposed.)
Asked by: jerryboomerwang
It definitely needs to be attached with staples or some other adhesive - I used staples but did not finish the room with this insulation as I felt it was not thick enough and too expensive for the area I wanted to insulate but would use it for smaller spaces - was comfortable with using but be sure to still use a mask - the

Asked by: Happy1
my project was to quiet down a forced air, natural gas furnace located in the middle of a conventionally framed single family house...this product, along with 5/8 fire rated drywall, combined with a 1/8" special rubber sheet designed for acoustical dampening and a solid core door for the mechanical room resulted in a furnace that cannot be heard when it is operating...this product is OK for thermal insulation, but standard fiberglass is more efficient...so, I use this whenever I want sound deadening, as opposed to thermal insulation

This was used by me, along w/ Dynamat, mass loaded vinyl and 48" x 24' Radiant Barrier (SKU 1000205938) to deaden the sound in my 1994 Grand Cherokee. This denim insulation was poked into fill every cavity on the interior of my vehicle, behind all the trim panels. This insulation DOES NOT ITCH, unlike fiberglass insulation. The only way I found to cut the insulation was with a large pair of scissors. A utility knife didn't work well. Pulling apart didn't work well. This does not have uniform mass. It has bits from the various fabric throughout, so the scissors was the only way I found to cut the insulation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good stuff if used for the right reasons if you are looking for temperature inslation, this is good for extra interior insulation. I purchased this for it's sound-deadening qualities for a music studio. It only has a 6-8 R rating but is highly recommended for sound insulation. I am also adding sound board which will then be covered by dry wall which does not meet at the walls and ceiling. The upper and lower cracks will then be filled with silicone sound sealant before baseboards and crown molding are installed. The only thing that would have made this better would have been a higher R rating but that would have doubled the price (6 rolls required for a 4x8 panel.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful product, fabulous to work with. Much better than fiberglass The insulation is easy and pleasant to handle with perforations making ripping the pieces wonderfully easy. It is dusty and if you don't wear a light mask you will end up with sneezing out blue fibers, but far and away more pleasant and enjoyable to work with than fiberglass which itches and no fun to rip lengthwise. Even as we installed it we found ourselves needing to be in the same rooms to understand each other. Noise reduction is greatly reduced, which is what we were after. The insulating value which allows different parts of the house to more accurately be kept at different temperatures was just a huge bonus. Surprisingly affordable. Was worth every penny.

I'm using this as acoustic room treatment rather than insulation in a home theater and small critical listening room. I've also used it to deaden speaker cabinets. In my application this is superior to mineral wool or fiberglass as it's much safer to handle and leave unfinished. I'd recommend this multi-purpose roll for unfinished applications, you don't necessarily need to cover it to make it look acceptable. There are no perforations for tearing and the surface is relatively uniform - In comparison to the bulk bags of this material (3.5" x 15" x 93") which are perforated and have a surface that isn't as uniform. Can't comment on this products ability to insulate, however for acoustic applications it works very well with an NRC of > 1.0. If you want a quick fix and are on a budget or don't want to make covered frames this can be hung on walls with thumb tacks.

Very low density compared to cotton shoddy (jute) carpet padding so not nearly as effective for sound insulation purposes. Also, because of the low density it is less effective as a sound absorber and thermal insulator compared to comparable thicknesses of fiberglass insulation. Lastly, it's more dusty than cotton shoddy padding. UltraTouch could fix these issues if it wanted but so far hasn't done so.

I've used it (instead of fiberglass) previously. Works as intended and much easier to use that fiberglass, plus doesn't "shred" over time inside the cabinet. Not as good an acoustic absorbent on a weight for weight basis as the acoustic polymer products but much less expensive - so use a bit more of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well in a dead vent systen I used this is a recording/practice studio dead vent for sound isolation. I was a little worried about fibers blowing out - but so far I haven't detected any (besides the initial loose junk when I first turned on the in-line fan). This application used 12 bags. After a few attempts at cutting using various things, I ended up using a sharp carving knife to first cut it in half (while it was still in the bag). For small cuts/shaping/etc you can just tear it by hand. Soft and fluffy, no lint or air particles/fibers for the most part (unlike fiberglass bats). I was surprised at how well this system works for moving air and reducing sound transmission between the adjoining room.
