Questions & Answers

Can I use this for the outside walls for my shed?

Asked by: Pat
Beazleybub please be aware that humidity and liquid water are not the same. Humidity is water in its vapor ( gas) phase. Resistance to water in the gas phase does not necessarily equate to resistance in the liquid phase. Unless this product is rated as exterior it most likely is bonded with glues that will delaminate under wet conditions. Most imported plywood contains no rating system at this time. So, if you"re unsure then take a small 3-4" square and boil it in ma's favorite pan for an hour. If it's interior grade then you will have three pieces for the price of one ( Most pieces actually only take about 15-20 minutes ). Even if the wood species used is somewhat resistant to humidity, if the glue fails so will your project.

"Not thick enough. If you intend to cover with ceramic tile you need an 1-1/2" thick plywood on 16" centers (2 ea 3/4" thick staggered).

Backing for wood flags I'm making

Im making wood flags to hang and need a thin, stainable backing for them. Will this work and if not, what can be recommended? It wouldn't go edge to edge-but about an inch smaller than the flags on all sides on the back side.
Asked by: Heather
If these are going to be displayed outside, I would highly recommend using a CDX / Sheathing Plywood such as: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sheathing-Plywood-Common-3-8-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Actual-0-344-in-x-48-in-x-96-in-19837/206821410 This product has an "NAUF Exterior" (no added urea formaldehyde) and is made with a fully water resistant phenolic glue. In other words, it will hold up to the elements and last much longer than the underlayment. Hope This Helps

Asked by: string
This is designed as underlayment for vinyl flooring. Before you cut the underlayment, let it acclimate to the humidity in your house for a day or two.

Bought this product due to price and availability to complete a faux shiplap project on a wall in our home. The boards are very light and easy to work with which was a major advantage for my wife and I. Boards were secured to the wall with 1.25" brad nails across the studs and everything went great until it was time to paint. The website and also the associate at the store assured us that these panels could be primed and painted with out issue. We bought the Kilz water based all in one primer that was suggested and after putting the first coat on, we found that the primer was actually separating the layers of some of the boards. There are roughly 40 boards on the wall and only 4 of them did this but it caused a lot more work, which eventually led to just completely replacing those sections with a different piece. Not sure why only a few of them separated like that, but I would advise painting before installing if possible just to make sure you won't have this issue.

Works very well, however for some reason the associate would only cut it down in 12” strips meaning I had to cut again to have 6” strips. Not sure why this service was refused, I’ve had it done before. Nonetheless, the product worked and worked well for my project.

The board flex was actually going the opposite direction from the grain as i expected so had to redesign my project/cuts accordingly and have more scrap but not a huge deal since this is an economical board. The nicer outer layer does chip & peal along the cut quite a bit too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ship lap a I pre-painted painted a 14 foot wall. White. I took this plywood and had it cut 8 inches to form planks and at the edges I painted them white and use nickels for spacers. i shot andused finish nails and left them visible. I rolled semi gloss paint the night before on the sides and top..white. Shabby chic style painting to look like old ship lap. brightened up the room as a focal wall and added texture and warmth for a nice nautical Styles in the kitchen dining area. Try this it's easy

Pro: - relatively low cost - works great as laser cutter stock - you have a choice of 2 different veneer faces (dark/light) Con: - too many putty-filled marks on some boards - I'd like a more consistent outer face without very large blemishes that need to be filled in (larger than a silver dollar)

Both sheets had small cracks in one corner even though Home Depot Employee picked them out stating they were the only 2 in the case not cracked. When I got them home 1 was cracked. I will be returning it to the store for replacement. Very poor quality merchandise.
