Questions & Answers

can the bars be installed over vinyl siding?
ByApr 27, 2023

Answer This Question

This question has been asked before. Previous answers indicate that installation over vinyl siding is not recommended. It's best to mount the brackets directly to the studs beneath the siding for secure installation.

Answer This Question

Thank you for your interest in our Black Projection Brackets. The projection brackets are made out of steel. I hope this information is helpful for you.

By|Oct 18, 2021

Yes, they can be welded however, they are coated and will need to be ground to bare metal.

What is the diameter of the holes in the projection brackets? I need to mount in concrete and the supplied screws probably won't work for that so I'll need to install the correct size of concrete anchor bolt.

How do you remove 1 way screws? I need to remove bar to put air conditioner in window.

          Answer This Question

If you need to remove them completely and have access to a grinder with an .045 cutting wheel grind a slot into the head of the screw enough to use a flat screwdriver. if your not replacing or relocating the bracket, centerpunch the head then use a 1/4" metal drill bit and drill off the head, the body of the bolt will remain in the wall.

Thank you for your interest in our Projection Brackets with one -way screws. We would suggest you speak with an associate at your local Home Depot store for assistance with your question. For the security of the window guard, the one-way screws are not meant to be removed. There are, however, tools that can make the process easier and a millwork associate should be able to offer suggestions. I hope this is helpful.

            By|May 5, 2023

Take a grinder and cut a slot on the head of the screw. Than use a slotted screw driver

              By|May 5, 2023

Take a picture of the screw (or better yet a spare unused screw) and take this to Fastenal. They will be able to sell you an appropriate bit. to remove.the normally unremoveable screws.

"Note: Mounting brackets add minimum 1" installed width (add to window guard width) and can adjust to add up to 5". If mounted width is more than 5" wider than the window guard, choose a larger size window guard". Are they talking over all width or 1" to 5" per side? Just want to be sure.

                    Answer This Question

1" to 5" per side. So if the guard is say 32" wide, you need a minimum of 34" to mount it and a maximum of 42". Hope that helps.

Thank you for your interest in our Mounting Brackets for window guards. The mounting brackets can adjust outward approximately 2.5 inches on each side for a total width increase of 5 inches. I hope this information is helpful for you.

I had these all the way in but I think you would not want more than 2-1/2" extension per side for a total of 5" overall. They will extend more than 2-1/2" but you might lose physical strength, might be easy to pull off?

                          By|May 5, 2023

Its just saying if you have a window cover that is 30 inches wide when you place these onto them they will become 1 inch wider each side so you would end up with 32 inches total width.

Add 1" overall to your window guard size. these brackets slide inside the cross brace for mounting.

I tried installing these by pre-drilling 3/16" pilot holes as directed by the instructions that came with the window guards, but the screws wont go in all the way no matter how hard I try. I got one in all the way but still have three screws only partially installed. I see elsewhere 1/4" pilot holes are recommended and I'm quite annoyed about the inconsistent directions as the smaller pilot holes aren't big enough. How can I get these screws out so I can start again?

Use conventional hex head lag bolts instead of the screws supplied.

                                By|May 6, 2023

with a 4/1/2 grinder and cut off wheel, grind a straight groove in screw and then use a large regular screw driver to remove screw. this will destroy one way screw but it will come out.

These brackets were easy to attach and install with the window guard. You’ll need the security screw drive bit to drive the screws which I found in the Mill works dept. at HD.
