Door is Useless
I purchased this product with the intention of protecting my patio door, and as previously reviewed, after installation there is a gap wide enough for anybody to reach through and open the door. I contacted manufacturer, Unique Home Designs, they are extremely rude and was told "sorry the product does fit your scenario, this is the way its manufactured and its not our responsibility". Can't see how this product would be useful in any other application.

Our patio security doors allow enough room between the sliding patio door and the security door to insure proper operation in a wide variety of main door and trim configurations. Assuming local codes allow for use of a double cylinder deadbolt, the design will deliver a secure installation.

Not Designed For Security
Took 2 1/2 months to receive. The paint was scuffed. Also, this gate looks nice but the way it's designed it will not keep your door secure. There is a 3" gap between the trim around the door and the frame of the gate which would allow anyone to put their hand in and unlock the door. I fixed the problem by putting up a 2x4 along with a 1x4 to close the gap but the manufacturer should definitely fix this problem or not advertise it as a security door.
I ordered it in September but didn't get it until the end of November. I didn't open the box right away because by then the weather was bad so I didn't see the scuffs in the paint until it was passed the 90 day return policy.

I'm not to happy with this security door for the fact that there is a 3 inch gap between the door and the house wall. the door does not lay flat against the house. I can slip my hand through the gap and unlock the door. so it is not very secure.

"Dear Valued Home Depot Customer,
To fit most standard sized patio sliding door, this door has a 3"" projection mount to allow for no interference with the sliding glass door. For more security, a double cylinder can be installed. Some building code and city ordinances restrict the use of double cylinder deadbolts on doors that are a primary point of egress. The homeowner is solely responsible for compliance with local code and ordinances. For a sliding, full view patio security solution, see the listing for the Ultimate Security Patio Screen Door with Meshtec Advanced Screen System."

Do NOT buy this door unless you are prepared to do A LOT of extra work! Apparently the designers are not too good in math. The door is supposed to fit over a standard sliding glass door. It does not. The door is about 3 or 4 inches too wide, which means you will not only have to change ALL the trim around your current door, but remove some of your siding (if you have siding) and cut some of the plywood behind the siding and add 1 or 2 walls studs. Since the door is too wide, the anchors on the wrought door miss the wall studs, and you MUST attach to a stud in order to safely secure the door. Other than this poor design, the door itself appears to be good quality, but they definitely need to learn how to read a tape measure.

I wanted a way to protect my patio door ever since I had a break in where they threw a brick through the patio door in order to enter the home. I bought this when it was put on sale about a month ago. It was just installed yesterday, so I have not had a lot of time with it yet. I had it professionally installed (yes I know my limitations). I had a very high quality Abaloy double cylinder deadbolt installed, and was able to find a communicator knob (like a double cylinder lock, but you can lock the outside and leave the inside unlocked if you want, or lock both sides) I did have a problem at the Home Depot store when I picked up the door, as one corner was knocked off the package completely exposing the door on that corner. Upon inspection the door on that corner was ok, but I did not inspect the rest of the door, The door comes in a cardboard box, with Styrofoam completely encasing the door. As it turned out my door was unscathed, but this is the second time I have picked up an order from Home Depot where there was a problem. You will need a double cylinder deadbolt and entry knob for this project. Make sure that you order the bit as they say it is included, but was not on my door. This caused quite a few problems, as I did not have a way to check till the installer unboxed the door. the knob is a Cal-Royal Barrington Knob, which I picked up at Door locks Direct, and the double cylinder Abaloy Deadbolt I got from Security Snobs. Good luck.

OK, but with slight issues
The other reviewers must not have read the description or specs as it clearly states the doors are projected 3 inches from the building's surface. Overall the door is well made, however - on mine the paint was already peeling in a 6 inch x 1/2 inch area on the door knob side near the top, and in several areas the paint was flaking off in areas about the size of a match head. Additionally there was pitting and weld splatter in some of the welded areas that did not seem to get good prepping and painting. One last thing - when I tightened up the dead-bolt and door knob the door's paint flaked off around both mount holes. It seems as though this door could use a better paint job more than anything else. A steel door with poor prep and paint will rust quickly. Other than that it fits well and does what it is supposed to. Just remember to use a double keyed deadbolt to avoid some other reviewer's issues.
Rating of 4 for appearance due to the paint peeling and flaking. Rating of 5 to install as it is easy to do. Rating of 2 on value is because the door cost $700 but it's like taking two 36"x 80" doors that cost $100 each and welding the two together so it should really cost around 40% of what it costs. Rating of 3 for quality is mainly due to welds not cleaned up correctly and a questionable paint job.

Door Does Not Protect
After installation realized that there is an inch and a half gap around the entire door. Someone can stick their hand in the gap and open the door. Also does not keep bugs outside of the house. Returning doors ASAP.
