The THR Sun Tunnel Skylight has rigid tubing and its pitched high density flashing provides the optimum angle for gathering light from all directions.

Q:I would like to put a 10" sun tunnel in a bathroom. My roof is a 6-12 pitch and I'm installing a metal roof. What do I need to know? Is it possible?

Answer This Question

A:  Please choose the TMR 010 0000G Sun Tunnel with the pitched aluminum flashing for this application. Also send an email to: vcustomer.service@velux.com for the additional installation instructions needed for a metal roof application.

    Q:it says its for a 14 to 60 pitch . what if you have a lower pitch then 14 ?

    A:  The manufacturer's warranty becomes void on installations of less than 14 pitch. That said, if you are willing to accept the risk of water damage, you can achieve the desired result by rotating the tunnel segments. This may result in a slightly angled approach to the roof.

      A:  VELUX has a different Sun Tunnel Skylight that will work on a lower sloped roof. It is curb mounted and available in a 14 inch diameter. Please check it out on the Home Depot website: https://www.homedepot.com/p/205614065

        A:  The manufacturer does not recommend installing on a pitch less than 14, the warranty will become void. That said, if you are willing to accept the risk of having water damage, you can adjust the rotation of the tunnel segments to achieve the desired pitch.

          A:  For areas that are Hurricane prone the impact Polycarbonate dome is better suited than a standard Acrylic dome. Please reach out to VELUX direct at 1-800-888-3589 with further questions.

            A:  No clue. It will handle 45 below zero several feet of snow. I don't see how the flashing would leak unless the depth of water gets over maybe 3 inches, but the plastic cap could get broken or maybe knoçked off of the tubing. This is not a heavy duty item, so I don't think I would trust it where heavy objects are flying around.

              A:  Nothing is hurricane-proof, but to meet building code in those areas, you will want to choose a Sun Tunnel Skylight with an Impact Rated (polycarbonate) dome like the TMR 010 1000SL as found here: https://www.homedepot.com/p/306352383 which is also eligible for a 30% Federal Tax Credit.

                  Amazing light without heat and no leaks!!
                  Night and day difference all in just 2 hours!! So much more open and airy! Love it and wish we did it sooner!!

                    Amazing light
                    We added the 10 inch sun tunnel and it gives off an amazing amount of light. Very pleased and easy to install, definitely helped reading reviews about helpful tips on install.

                      Wow!!!!
                      We just got done having 2 14” Sun tunnels in our house. The living room was “land locked”, no windows. We now keep thinking we have left a light on.

                        These things are cool
                        all in all, this was well worth the price. I bought three of these the week before getting new roof installed. I installed everything but the flashing, I let the roofers do that part. I have minimal experience in this kind of stuff and it took me roughly 1.5 hours per tunnel to cut the hole in the roof and ceiling and install hardware. this picture is with about 52" of tunnel length, and cloud coverage in the sky:

                            I love the extra sunlight!
                            Purchased two of these back in Nov 2017, self installed without any major issues. Love the light they add and love the night light feature. Unfortunately one of the night lights has stopped working after three years. When I pulled it out to inspect I found the battery hold has started to come apart. I looks like the hear has weekend the plastic and the spring holding the batter in place has pushed the plastic end apart. Customer service says I can purchase a whole new light... seems like a design flaw to me. better components should be used to withstand the elements the light is expected to perform in. The solar tube itself is a good solution for under lit rooms. I was hoping for these to be a long term low maintenance solution.

                              Fantastic
                              I specified a solar tube style skylight to be added to my main bathroom which has no natural light (no window) and was always dark until a light was turned on. This 10" Velux is amazingly bright on sunny days and does well on overcast days. This photo is from an overcast day and still lights the room. It also does not collect moisture when showering but I do have an exhaust fan with light but the mirror will fog even with the fan on.

                                Rechargeable batteries not Impressive
                                We had two rigid Velux sun tunnels installed in February. The interior work took a couple more months and the batteries were installed in one sun tunnel in May and the second sun tunnel in late October. The sun tunnels provided great light during the evening but the batteries in both sun tunnels failed by mid November. Very unsatisfied with this. The ceiling is 14’ high and having to change out with new batteries so soon is not what we expected.

                                  14 tunnels in! And a question...
                                  Ok, I have gone sun tunnel crazy! Have an unusually large single floor house and have put in 14 sun tunnels with 6 or 7 to go. Am in love with the light! One thing is driving me crazy...it is extremely difficult to get the clear ceiling covers off before install, then back n after install. I see that there a seal and it seems to make the covers impossible to get on. Any tips or tricks? I'm killing my grip and am on high ladders for some (not great footing). When unboxing I've figured out that I need to break the seal all around by gently pulling cover away from ring before trying to remove. Any tips to help would be appreciated...have so many to get up and on. Once this is done I'll be good to go and an extremely happy customer!

                                    Sun Tunnel Skylight are Great
                                    We had Three 10 inch VELUX Sun Tunnel Skylight installed on Monday 10/19/20, one in the kitchen, two in the living room. They have truly added light to the rooms which was a great improvement for the area.
