Questions & Answers

Does this product come with the coupler / difusser required?

Does this product come with the coupler / difusser required?
Asked by: ConnorO
This product includes nearly everything needed for installation; Flashing, 4 feet of rigid tunnel which includes the elbow extensions and the diffuser assembly. The only additional purchase would be the mastic required to seal the flashing to the decking. HomeDepot.com does an excellent job of listing the included parts in their Specifications section found just below the Product Overview.

It comes with a 52 tube. I wANT TO PUT 2 OF THEM IN MY NEW HOUSE. THE ROOF IS ABOUT 8 FT FROM THE CEILING. DOES THE TUBE HAVE TO BE 1 PIECE?

Asked by: ORVI
The tube comes in sections that connect together. So no, the tube does not have to be one piece.

Why does this product not ship to MN?

Why does this product not ship to MN?
Asked by: CantGetMySunTunnelAndy
Good morning Andy. To meet building code, the state of Minnesota requires skylights and flat glass sun tunnels to have laminated glass. The VELUX TLR 014 2000 sun tunnel has tempered glass and does not meet this requirement and not suitable for sale in your state. Consider a VELUX low profiled TGR 014 sun tunnel with an acrylic or polycarbonate dome. Perhaps this alternative model sun tunnel will work for your application. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Customer Reviews

14 in. Flat Glass SUN TUNNEL Tubular Skylight with Rigid Tunnel and Low Profile Flashing is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installed 14-years ago! I had 4 Velux units installed 14-years ago, and they have been excellent. I also have 3-Solatubes (in-place when we purchased), and the Velux Sun Tubes are equally as bright. In fact, the Velux tubes disperse light throughout the room better. I have had many visitors ask why I have my lights on during the day :). Yes, they're that bright! Mine are beginning to shows signs of age (cracking), and I'll need to replace the domes. For those who experienced low-light and/or a blue hue: I had the same issue when first installed. We had the tubes switched for rigid from the flex tubes and the problem was solved. I think the rigid must "funnel" the light more directly versus the many folds of the flex tubing. Try making the change and you might have better results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I thought I loved our home but wow! I just finished installing our fourth light We started out with two but it's becoming an addiction The difference it has made to our home is astounding I have a construction background but anyone with reasonable skills and YouTube should be able to manage I would recommend this product to anyone that asks

Rated 3 out of 5 by from condensation problems during cold weather we have 3 which were installed this summer. love the light, but this is our first winter with them and we've had condensation in and around the sun tunnels. there is water literally pooled up inside the tubes and we also had water dripping around the tubes during a brief warm up. we have a vaulted ceiling. not sure what the fix is, but our contractor has only suggested turning down the humidity which is already very low, about 20%.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bugs in my sun tunnel. Common or poor install? I love my sun tunnel however have quite an accumulation of dead bugs in it. Is this common or was it poor installation causing it not to be sealed correctly? What can be done for current bugs and how to prevent more in the future?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same performance with no plastic bubble. Despite being 1400sq', single story, with an abundance of windows, the light brown walls ate all the light coming into our home, making it dark and depressing even in the summer. So, when the time came to re-roof, we installed 7 Velux skylights all together. 2 electric 4646's, 1 fixed 3046, and 4 tubes. Two of the tubes would be visible from the street, and I am not fond of the appearance of the plastic dome. Luckily I discovered the TLR low-profile unit while planning the project. Another reason for choosing the TLR was the pitch of our roof was such that a TMR, which our roofer recommended over the TGR for our roof, would have sat askew/out of level. We did go with the TGR instead of the TMR for the domed units after meeting with the Velux rep, but that's a different story. ****Bottom line: The Velux Sun Tunnel skylights bring in much more light than we were expecting (after seeing our neighbor's new tubular skylight), and there is no discernible difference between the amount of light coming in through the two Sun Tunnel's with the plastic dome, and the two with the flat glass termination. The finished appearance is discreet and attractive, and was worth the extra hundred dollars. In fact, though I love the two enormous venting skylights in our living area, in hindsight I may have opted instead for 4 TLR tubes, which would have resulted in as much and possibly more light, less cost, and less additional load in heating and A/C.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from the light is cold and blue I'm so disappointed. The light feels cold and blue. We have a flexible aluminum tube. Is there some way to make the light warmer?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE these skylights A month ago we had three of tube lights installed in a dark living space of our new home. That area had windows only on one side and felt gloomy. I absolutely love these skylights. The space is bathed in light now. Every time I in, I smile. The picture doesn't do it justice!
