FLASHING GREAT FOR NEW INSTALL: MODS REQUIRED FOR REPLACEMENT UNITS OR NEW HOLE IN EXISTING ROOFING
The flashing kit for the deck mounted skylight is comprehensive and fairly straight forward for a new installation on virgin decking (new roof). Based on past experience, it is critical that the adhesive roll flashing tape be adhered all the way up to the rim of the vertical sides of the window (per instructions.)
FOR REPLACEMENT SKYLIGHTS ON AN EXISTING ROOF or new units on an existing roof, the flashing kit is not so easy. Existing roofing needs to be taken back away from the roof opening and the existing underlayment/sheathing needs to be scrupulously clean of grit and adhesive etc. We had to modify the application of the adhesive with overlapping layers rather than a single roll up application as designed vs removing a substantial portion of shingles and re-roofing/waterproofing. This would likely void any anticipated warranty on installation, although I'm confident in our application and so far, no leaks through winter storms. Prior skylights failed due to adhesive tape flashing not going all the way up to the rim of the vertical edge, so this is important. (took over 10 years, but it rotted all the way through, allowing seepage in the lower corners. (Not visible until the top metal flashing was removed.) The glass seals remained intact, and otherwise the prior skylights (same size VELUX deck mount) were perfectly fine.

this is the flashing kit for the velux skylights .Its a superior product sold only to fit their units! simple to install! best bnb of all using this product you will never have to call your contractor back because of malfunctioning! it keeps the elements out side where they belong and at the same time letting the beautiful light shine in! I highly reccomend this product from the Home Depot store.

The product is very good and I would have given it 5 Stars if the packaging were better. The instructions were adequate and the components top notch. I ordered 6 kits - 3 arrived damaged. I was able to fix 2 of them but the third was beyond repair. Velux needs to redesign their packaging.
