Q:A vented skylight should always have a crank. It's a real shame that you don't include the crank handle for the Velux VCM 2222 2004 vented skylight. It's simply a money grab by Velux. Shame on you!

Answer This Question

A:  When a customer is buying a skylight, we do not know whether they are installing it within reach or out of reach, and we do not know whether they are installing only 1 skylight or multiple skylights. The majority of VELUX skylights are installed out of reach, so manual venting skylight models come with a hook that can be operated by a control rod. If we included a crank handle in every box, then the majority of the time when a customer installs a skylight out of reach, the crank handle would go into the trash. If we included a control rod in every box, then every time a skylight is installed within reach, the control rod would go into the trash. Therefore, these items are not included with the skylight purchase as this would require an increase in costs and significantly increase waste.

A:  Agreed. When ordering the skylight, the manufacturer could simply ask the question whether you can stand flat footed and crank the unit open or if you'd need an extension pole. It's not like it's rocket science.

Q:Can you post a photo of the fixture part (connection) here? Is that part the same as the ZZZ 201?

      Answer This Question

A:  ZZZ 212 is the correct crank handle model number for a VCM fresh air curb mount skylight, and ZZZ 201 is the correct crank handle model number for a VS fresh air deck mount skylight. They are different in design due to how deeply the skylight sits within the roof opening.

Q:My 3 new window units are within reach by hand. The handle which came with the units is for a pole operation. My wife and I can barely get the window open with this handle

          Answer This Question

A:  VELUX Skylights are most often installed out-or-reach, therefore, they come standard with the out-of-reach loop. When installing within-reach, you must purchase the Crank Handle separately. The Crank Handle needed for your VCM Skylights is the ZZZ 212. Thank you.

It fits and it works. But for over $30 for a simple crank handle, I'd have expected VELUX to pay more attention to the aesthetics and used the appropriate size of tiny headless screw to attach the 2" extension (necessary in my installation). It visibly sticks out, making it look cheap.

They work to crank open the windows. Cranks should be included with the windows not an expensive add on option.

We are happy to hear that you received the proper handle for your VCM curb mounted skylight. You will now be able to enjoy the benefits of fresh air that will circulate throughout the room. This is quite a nice feature that a VELUX ventilating skylight can provide.

              skylights are amazing
I love my 5 velux skylights I have installed in my home. I have had them for about 12 years with very little issues. One issue I have run into with 2 of the 5 is the crank seems to be stripped, not allowing to operate the window. This has been a problem for a few years, something I should have looked into under warranty. I have looked for solutions online and have not been able to find a good response to my dilemma. Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated!

These handles make it much easier to open and close the new skylights we just had installed. However, I believe they should be included with the purchase of the skylights and not something you need to buy for $25 each. That’s just my opinion and you know what they say about those...

First of all please change the picture so customers can see how it really looks like ! The crank extension is 3" long from the window frame to the first angle or bent. We have a shallow angled inner casing and I feared that I would not have enough space for a full crank with this longer crank handle , but it worked just fine! Assembly is simple and after tightening the screw you still feel a little bit of play in it. Nevertheless you'll have plenty of connection strength ! So far I'm pretty satisfied and I'm ordering two more for the other ones . Martin G.

                  Not your only choice!
This particular handle, labeled as suitable for the VCM series skylight, was not what was pictured. For way too much money, you get a 3" extension that's really not needed. We used the VS series handle (that is as shown on the web site) and it works great. This one just stuck out too far. And, at thrice the price, it was not worth it.
