Does it expand and contract with the weather/temperature? Planning to make shed doors with this material.
Asked by: Bill
Yes, all PVC and wood expands with temperature and wood expands with temperature and moisture. That is one reason you get cracks in your painted joints! However, plastic moves at a different rate than wood so when you use dissimilar materials you must consider this when cutting/assembling. PVC does not absorb water like wood and I allow up to 1/8" to 1/4" maximum and caulk joints with quality paint caulk. I have successfully used this as siding when plywood or T111 has failed in use for close contact to soil, like skirting/siding. This product appears to be similar to Azek, which claims up to 1/4" for joint expansion or it "might" peak as two plastic pieces expand. I used this for lap siding and it has withstood 6 years and multiple HEAVY hail storms. It can be shaped and fastened like wood, that is, screws, nails and glue and routed. It takes latex paint well, usually two coats, no oil base paint as it does not penetrate like oil. This is plastic material, so if hammered it can break/crack, or dent if a hammer/crowbar is applied without care. Otherwise great stuff if you have a siding rot problem. Good luck

Can this be cut with a jigsaw for outdoor projects? Such as a Nativity?
Asked by: mimi
I've used a jigsaw to make some cuts. It does tend to leave some melted build up here and there, but with a razor blade it easily scrapes off.
