Q:These say basement jack but only 16" is it ment to be screwed to the end of a 4x6 to get the length needed?

Answer This Question

A:  We used these under a cabin with a sloping "basement " floor. In some areas we had to place blocks of wood between the jack and the supporting beams we we shoring up. These also come in different lengths, we got the size that didn't require much blocking between the jack and beam.

A:  Made to provide support where only 16" are required. If more adjust ability is required you need some blocking.Won't lift heavy loads but will support with some adjustment available..

A:  It shouldn’t matter if the jack is oriented threads up or thread down, as long as it is plumb.

Wow! This is the most solid support jack very similar to my originals installed during new construction 50 years ago. Mine is still good but I need additional ones to support other areas where a thinner version were used in less critical areas.. Those are rusting out because of thin non crtiical construction. This one here painted red must be supposedly solid pipe welded to bases. Mine is actually galvanized thick pipes welded to same square bases with adjusting nut and bolt similiar to it here. very heavy! used for bearing walls. Long ago , we had foundation crew from Argentina come over to do some foundation work and they toss the originals around and used wood posts instead.. Wood posts are not good because they are not adjustable or that there is no such suitable kind of shims that can be used for adjustment. You cannot use those cedar shims for windows and doors, no siree! You need steeper shims made of hardwood or galvanized steel plate to bam two onto eachother to lift the floor after years of normal settling. Now, I am looking for the thinner version I need to replace my old rusting out jacks spaced six feet apart See picture. They are stuck in concrete so it is hard to replace so many of them.. Rusting jacks may be the biggest reason homes collapse during earthquakes, as I see it..
