This excellent soil made all of the seeds germinate 3 times sooner than usual, and the same seeds did not germinate in a regular soil. Great product, highly recommend!

              Do not recommend
I purchased a few bags of this for a raised bed. When I was putting the soil in, I found lots of pieces of plastic, both hard and soft, glass, and synthetic fibers. Not really a product I want to use to add trash to my property. Will never buy anything from this company again.

This is not the quality of product we intend to produce. Every effort is made to screen out debris. Fungus
The plants I potted using this potting soil has fungus in them. Im not sure if the fungus is harmful to the plant but I will fo research and find out. There were also large wood chunks in the soil.

We are sorry to hear about your experience with Vigoro All-purpose Garden Soil and appreciate your feedback.

Fungal mold spores including mushroom producing fungus are a natural part of soils and mulch. It just takes the right conditions for the spores to develop into a fungus or mold. In fact, fungus mold has been scientifically proven to improve the growth of plants by releasing nutrients from the organic material that growing media are typically. We do not sterilize our growing media as microorganisms are an important component of growing media. The fungus mold only becomes a problem if there is an overgrowth. Overgrowth occurs when the soil mulch is too wet. Keep in mind that mold and fungus on growing media or mulch will go away with sunlight and air circulation.

                  It’s mulch
I couldn’t understand why my plants were not thriving. I thought I had purchased a bad batch of plants so I pulled everything up and repotted. I then realized that the soil is mulch. When you first apply it, it is full soil. After watering, it turns to mulch with chunks of wood. This caused my plants to suffocate as it pulled the moisture out. I would only recommend this product as mulch for the flower bed. Lesson learned.

While small pieces of bark and twigs are intentional components of our growing media including potting soil, garden soil, lawn soil, and topsoil, you should not find large pieces of wood or bark. Most of our soils especially potting mixes and garden soils are made of composted forest products and contain very little if any actual soil. Composted forest products provide high organic content and nutrients without the concern for soil compaction. The coarser material allows for air to reach the roots of the plant which improves plant performance. This soil is for outdoor in-ground use only. Do not use outdoor soils/mixes such as this one in containers (a Topsy Turvy is considered a container). These types of soils are too dense for container plants and may suffocate plant roots.

                    Weeds Growing in Bag
I purchased 5 bags of this soil for my garden bed. When I opened them I found weeds growing in 4 of the bags. I do not feel comfortable buying this brand of soil again, because it could easily spread weeds throughout my garden.

We're sorry you were disappointed. Our growing media products undergo composting that kills most weed seeds; however, some may remain. We do not sterilize our soils as this would kill beneficial microorganisms that help the growth of plants. We want you to be confident in our products and would like to go over the details of our product guarantee. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 877-220-3089. Scotts_Vigoro

                      Weeds growing inside bag
I bought several bags of this soil for my vegetable garden. When I got them home and opened them I found clumps of weeds growing in multiple bags. This shows terrible quality control on Vigoros part. I no longer feel comfortable using any of their soil, because there could easily be weed seeds in the soil.

                        Nice Dark Mulch
Yup, I use it as a mulch for my landscape beds. I've been using it for years and I've never had a bad bag. I don't understand the bad reviews. If you are expecting wood chips, this is not for you. I do not use it to mix with my planting, I simply only use it as a mulch. My photo is of the "mulch" installed after a few weeks. It retains it color and looks like this year round. I typically freshen it with a light layer after pollen season. Best wishes.

                          Huge disappointment
I bought 38 bags for raised gardens and everyone is full of garbage, nails, glass, weeds and God knows what. If the crew hadn't opened all of them I would have returned them so instead I have spent hours picking all the garbage and weeds out. Not to mention the LA or it took to get them loaded and unloaded. Vigoro, you have lost my business. I also purchased several bags of another blend a few weeks ago. It was the same issue.
