can this be installed without spikes?
      BySep 22, 2025

      Answer This Question

It can be installed without spikes. However, for long lasting use in keeping the edging in place, heavy duty poly anchor STAKES are recommended. They are available online for purchase in a 12 pack. "spikes" are NOT recommended.

Thank you for your question. The bead of the edging is the top part when installed. I believe you will find it extremely beneficial to view the video on the product page.

I have several 60’ rolls of 60 ft. x 0.5 in. x 4.5 in. Black Plastic Dig-In Landscape Edging. I will be cutting the rolls in 8’ sections, so I am in need of numerous end connectors. Where may I find these connectors, and who is the manufacturer? Thanks

I installed over 100 ft of this in 2022 and it has worked great. I went back to get more for another project today and the present version is total garbage. The plastic is thinner, the loop at the top is smaller, and I don't think the lip at the bottom is large enough to accommodate the stakes. I'm really disappointed because this was once a nice product. The pictures are of the product in 2022 on 1 inch grid paper. You can compare that to what's in the store tody.

                    Lots of work, every year.
It'll work itself out of place between seasons. After several months it'll pop up 1 to 3 inches and become a trip hazard. Makes for a yearly project of re-seating the edging. Probably the nature of all underground rubber edging.

                      Awful!
Don’t use this if you intend to make straight lines. This garbage material should be exclusively advertised for round trim only. It won’t I mean will never go to straight. Don’t waste money on this terrible product.

The 5" depth does better at keeping grass from growing underneath it and it is very durable. The only drawback is because it comes in a coil, it tends to create wavy lines when you want to edge a straight garden. Next time, I will try to roll it out and stake it down in the sun for a few hours to see if it will straighten out.

                        Good edging
Good edging durable thus far. Walked on and run over with lawn tractor and recovered with no visible flaws.

Ok. Nice and tall. But it does not straighten out.
There is no way to hold this up. I purchased the metal spikes and spray painted them black so they would blend in. But they really need a 8 inch U shaped spike to hold this up. It would be easier to install. Also it is rolled up and even after putting in the hot sun.. it did not straighten out. It still has curves. So I should have gone with a straight edger. This is good if you want the curves.

                        Great Edging.
Awesome edging. Looks fantastic with the black rubber mulch we purchased. We opened it and put it in the sun for a few hours to make it more malleable.

This edging is very easy to install. I'm using it in my front yard to keep newly plugged St Augustine Grass in check and in the boulevard portion of my front yard to keep 3/8" pea gravel in place. For long sections, I also use the Vigoro spikes to keep the edging firmly in place.
