Keeps moisture in longer and will continuously feed for up to 6 months. You can use it for flowers or vegetables. It's a mixture of peat, processed forest products, coir, sphagnum peat moss, perlite and fertilizer, and a wetting agent.
Clear instructions on the bag, including pictures, help guide you through the use of the product in case you're new to gardening, like me.
It's a very light and fluffy product, since it's not soil, so when you water it, it will take some time to saturate down. I got this to put around some of my flowers in an area where I'm struggling to keep the dirt moist. When I checked the garden this morning, I found the mix to be warm and moist. We've had a lot of heat lately so things are drying out quickly. I watered and then checked again after lunch and the moisture is holding, despite the blistering sun.
I used this soil to transplant one of my houseplants. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the soil was dry and almost velvety to the touch. (You can see its texture in the photo.) It filled in and surrounded the plant and was quickly tamped down. Another plus - adding water to settle the plant didn't create a "flood" in the pot. The water absorbed into the soil despite the apparent dryness. All in all, I am very happy with the potting mix. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has plants needing to be repotted.
Pros: Great Quality, Easy to Work With, zip-locked storage
It's a lofty "mix" ... not soil ... that lets the plant's roots breathe.
The bag might weigh in a 1.5 lbs?
You can use it "straight" or amend with potting SOIL.
Trace amounts of nutrients [9-6-9] will get the repotting off to a good start.
If you've got more than a couple plants to repot, you might want to look for a more economical approach.
Vigoro's potting soil mix is very easy to utilize and spread over flowers and plants. It is nice to purchase a potting mix which contains nutrients that will help and nurture the plants growth. Also a plus is the self- sealing bag that many manufactures have not thought of yet. It makes it so much easier to store and not worrying about spillage between usage.
I was just able to get back to gardening after some surgery and used this product for planting some plants. It was of good quality and spread evenly in the pots. The plant are thriving in it. I would recommend this product to anyone who is into planting plants in pots. The mixture is well blended and is easy with which to work in planting. It appears to have a small amount of fertilizer in the mix.
My wife used this potting mix in our greenhouse to start containerized herbs and vegetables. From there we moved them out to planting boxes, but retained the soil mix around the plants. This worked very well and we had excellent results. She found that the soil did retained moisture well and grew the plants without the need to amend it with fertilizer.
This potting soil is exactly what my plants needed. I had a potted plant outside that was on its last legs. This potting soil kept the water in the pot and the plant is flourishing now. The size is perfect for me to handle with my arthritic hands. When spring arrives, I will; be buying this product in greater quantities to make my flower and vegetable gardens flourish.
