I'm thinking of putting these in concrete in small buckets to use as weighted tie downs for a canopy. The West Texas winds tend to blow our canopies away! Would you recommend this size or one larger? There will be a total of 4 tie downs. My husband has challenged me with saving our new canopy! HA!!
Asked by: Laurie
I live in CA. We were enjoying a sunny day on the Eel River. We had a large inflatable raft we were using that day. We stopped and were hanging out at a secluded beach area. All of a sudden some strong winds came up and blew our raft, with backpacks, towels, food and a drink cooler, down the beach! We retrieved all of it and put some very large boulders in the raft to keep it from taking flight again. That worked initially until the wind started blowing even stronger. Amazingly, that raft with at least 500 lbs of LARGE BOULDERS, took off again! That was the day one of my kids almost had their head blown up and died! Those LARGE BOULDERS became missiles and barely missed my child's head by just inches! Why do I tell you this? Simply because your canopy is probably 4-5 times larger that my inflatable raft, making it a huge sail for the wind to grab hold of and launch! If 500+ lbs of boulders are going to fly they're shot out of a cannon, then, concrete filled buckets flying thru the air are going to become deadly projectiles! Please don't do this! I have never been so shocked at the power of Mother Nature and her wind! This happened more than 25 years ago and I still see those rocks just missing her head..... Good luck chasing that canopy!

Would these be sufficient to hold down a tent in sand, like on a beach?

Asked by: Chris
Yes, but you may want to try something longer or lighter (such as Plastic) if you are going to a beach where strong winds are common.

Is there any product that is a smaller version of this?

Some type of spiral stake or anchor that isnt quite this heavy duty?
Asked by: Travis
Not that I’m aware. Not sure what your project requires but this anchor is not very large for how strong it holds in the ground. I use it to anchor a newly planted tree against the high winds in the California delta region. It’s a perfect solution for me but need to get one more to balance out the lateral movement

If you are screwing this into the hole of a tent pole base-plate, what size would the hole have to be?

Asked by: Chris
no hole or sleeve should be used.
