I am a 70 something who has been working with wood for well over 55 years. I have 3 planers right now 2 DeWalt and this Wen. The finish that the Wen leaves is better than both of my more expensive yellow planers. I bought the Wen to do some curly maple and it did not disappoint. Great little planer!!

Feed table is not flat and there is no response from service
The feed table is not flat. I reached out to their support 10 days ago and I have received no response except the automatic 'we got your message' email. A dip in the feed table would cause sniping or uneven shaving of the wood which would result in the board not being flat. And flat is the purpose of this machine. Attached picture shows contact on the left and rights sides with gap in the center two pictures.

WEN 10amp 8in.Spiral Benchtop jointer planer
This jointer planer is a good quality product, other than the aluminum fence, and a fair price for what you pay for. Does require some adjustments out of the box. It took me about 3 hours to get the table adjustments and cutting levels correct. Overall I am satisfied with my purchases. I would have paid a little more for a better quality fence and a option of carbide cutters if offered.

I LOVE this jointer
Right out of the box everything was perfect! After assembling the fence and checking for squareness and levelness of the in feed and out feed tables I started tinkering with things before I finished reading the operation instructions. Needless to say I got everything out of wack, but very quickly got it all corrected. Before purchasing this Jointer I read a lot of comments about the difficulty of squaring the fence with the table, but I didn’t have the same experience. I also read about the poor positioning of the levers on the backside of the fence interfering with one another. Initially this was the case BUT if you pull the lever out, spin it to your desired position, and release it this is no longer an issue. I am a self taught wood worker for the past 7 years and have learned more with every project. This is also my first jointer and have never worked with one before, so I’ll need to give an update after some time using this machine. Though after running a test piece from a pretty rough scrap of 4x4 I am in love and really hope this continues to perform.

Very Nice Jointer, Just What I Needed
This WEN 10-Amp 8 inch Spiral Benchtop Jointer with Extendable Table was exactly what I needed for my shop. I already had a planer which works great, but that planer doesn't really work on edges. I decided on the 8 inch model over the 6 inch model because I've been doing a lot of work with 8x8 and 7x7 posts lately and needed that extra space to run my work pieces.
This jointer is heavy, and the box is very large (the pics give you a good idea of the size of the box, approx. 4-1/2' x 2' x 2'). The weight of the piece itself is approx. 55-60 lbs., but with the added packaging it easily came in 10-12 lbs heavier. I give WEN a lot of credit here, it came wrapped in foam, packed inside a box with heavy-duty cardboard stiffeners, inside of another larger box that was also packed with heavy-duty cardboard stiffeners. They really did a great job ensuring that this product did not get damaged during delivery.
This tool was super easy to put together out of the box. All you really have to do is install the fence and it's ready to go. The fence comes as 3 pieces but it only took about 5 minutes to install. The 3 pieces allow for adjusting the fence for beveled or angle cuts, and width adjustments. The extendable table is already installed as well as the dust port and blade guard. I did have to make some minor adjustments to the table to level it out, but the instructions guide you through this process in case it gets jostled too much during shipping and shifts out of level. It involves removing some of the screws recessed in the outfeed side table and adjusting some leveling screws, it's not hard at all.
I definitely recommend using a vacuum on the dust port as soon as you start cutting. The dust port itself can back up with sawdust pretty quick and then it starts coming out of any possible gaps it can find. The dust port hole sits above the bottom of the dust port cavity so there is room for it to build up. There is a dust port adapter that comes with it which allows you to hook up different size vacuum hoses. The pair of push blocks are a comfortable addition to the jointer. They grip nice and tight to your work piece and keep your hands away from the cutting blades. The depth gauge is easy to read and adjust and the locking knob does a great job of holding your cutting depth until you need to change it. Keep in mind, to eliminate splitting, splintering, or spalling of the wood, do your best to cut with the grain and not against it. The shallower the cut the smoother the surface will be. Also, the deeper the cut, the more force you have to put into pushing the piece across the cutting blades. Be careful.
With this jointer, and my existing planer, my woodworking setup is pretty complete. The jointer is a must for giving yourself two good 90 degree plane and level surfaces, and the planer helps in being able to take down the rest of the sides to give you a nice and square work piece. You can do all of that work with just a jointer, but you have to be really good at checking square on boards and taking small measurements. It's a meticulous process. With that in mind, a small tip for all that sawdust you'll have left over: take that sawdust and put it in a cardboard egg crate, then pour wax over the entire thing (I use my wife's throw away scented wax). Afterwards cut them up and you have homemade fire-starters for your camping trips.

I waited to write this review until I had time to really use the jointer. After two months use, here goes: Short version: I am very pleased with the WEN JT833H jointer, and recommend it. Longer version: Did a lot of research beforehand, seems a lot of woodworkers were in agreement on two jointer attributes: 1. Bigger (wider cut) is better, buy the widest jointer your budget will allow. 2. Spiral cutterhead is a step above a flat blade, in terms of servicability (just need to replace a cutter "tooth" rather than the entire blade if you hit a nail, etc.) and also noise (spiral is a lot quieter). I went back and forth between this machine and a very nice (and more expensive) 6" stand jointer. What initially sold me on the JT833H, and which I very much appreciate now after using it, was its portability - more about that later - and the spiral cutterhead.
Jointer arrived when Home Depot said it would, and was securely packed. Setting it up was very easy, maybe 30 minutes. I thought I would temporarily set it on a counter in my shop and run a couple boards through it just to see how it worked. Well... two months later and its still sitting on that counter, though I have moved it several times when I needed the counter space. This brings up the portability point: the jointer is light enough to easily move, but heavy enough to handle fairly long and/or heavy boards without moving. The extensions are really nice and work great with longer lumber.
Performance: The motor is very powerful yet quiet. This jointer really showed its ability when I used it to work with some very dense 8/4 hickory. As this lumber was rough sawn, I first used the jointer to get a good board edge so I could then cut it with my table saw. After cutting on the table saw I then used the jointer to finish the hickory legs and cross braces for counter bar stools (pics attached). As I mentioned, this wood was REALLY hard but the jointer handled it with ease, providing a very smooth finished surface. Noise was neglible! I also used the jointer to smooth the edge of the 2.25" thick walnut chair seats, as well as turning the rough cut walnut lumber into usable boards (jointer + planer makes quick work of it) - I was again very pleased with the finish and ease of use. One feature which really surprised me was the dust collection ability of the JT833H. I simply hooked my shop vac up to the jointer and I had very little dust or wood chips to deal with- practically zero. This was really nice when I had many pieces to smooth and and/or trim building the four stools. The superior dust collection feature has caused me to use the jointer rather than my DW733 planer whenever I need to quickly smooth a board (less than 8" wide, which is most I work with).
So far I have not found anything wanting (though availabilty of carbide "teeth" would be very nice). Sure it would have been nice to have a huge cast iron jointer to handle that big slab of hickory but with a little patience and brain power, I got very good results with the JT833H.
Overall, very happy with my purchase of the JT833H and highly recommend it.

First, I'll just say I'm the very definition of a beginning woodworker. I have dreams of building our home's dining table at some point, so I'm slowly acquiring tools (and skills) to do so. It's the classic "I can build that for half the price (plus at least a grand in fun new tools)!" that you can tell your wife :-)
This jointer is probably a step above entry level in terms of what is out there on the market; not just in terms of price, but also quality. Most entry level bench top jointers will be 6" and not have the spiral set blades.
Things I like:
1. Spiral blade vs. straight blade. This setup will put less strain on the motor and I think will provide better results as well.
2. Extendable arms from the table. The jointer itself is designed to sit on a bench top and is not super wide, so the extendable arms are nice to have and be able to support longer boards on.
3. Fairly simple to assemble. If you don't need to adjust the table, it's pretty quick and can be done with 1 person (though you may want some help lifting it). Unfortunately, I needed to make adjustments.
4. Blades come with 2 sharp edges, so if one edge gets dull or chipped, you're not totally SOL until you get a replacement.
5. Adjustable fence. As you'll see, I have a love-hate relationship with the fence. Here is what I like about it. The fence can be moved in as well as change angles. I may not use the angle adjustment much, but the ability to move the fence in could maybe help even out wear on the blades (if you only put a bunch of 2x4s through the jointer, you'll have ~4 inches of unused blades). The fence has a cut out in the center to avoid interference.
6. Compact. I don't have a ton of space, and I think even ones with a huge shop can appreciate a tool that doesn't take up too much space.
Things I'm still getting used to/don't like:
1. The fence. I wish it could extend almost the width of the main table, but then that would probably add too much flex. There is SOME flex to the fence if you push hard on it. While I don't envision adjusting it a whole lot, I found it a little difficult to handle and get set how I wanted because the angle adjust knob also allows for height adjust at the same time, and the blade guard is also constantly pushing on the fence a bit as well, so it felt like I needed a hand to hold the blade guard out of the way, a hand to hold the fence how I needed it, and a third hand to tighten the knob back to set it in place. I also was not confident in the setting, so I checked for square after any adjustment I made in setup.
2. The blade guard has some flex in it, so if you do put weight on it by accident while the blade is running, it could dip down and damage the blade (though that's better than damaging your hand I suppose!) I have no experience with other blade guards on other jointers, so I don't know if this is a common thing or not; just something to keep in mind and be extra mindful of (as if the spinning blades underneath don't already warrant caution!).
3. The instruction manual says that the jointer is shipped factory set to have a flat table surface, but I found I needed to adjust it. There are instructions on how to do this in the manual, but this does take some time. Each side has 4 adjustment screws. If you unscrew all 4, the table will flip off because they aren't balanced (at least this is what happened to the outfeed side; I have not adjusted the infeed). I also found that it worked best if I re-screwed the table down every time in order to test the adjustment. Since you're making such subtle movements, the tightening of the table can make a difference in the setting.
Other notes:
- The table surface comes with a coating of oil on it from the plant. I wiped this off with a paper towel prior to use.
- This is probably expected, but there are some marks on the table surface after making just a few test passes over the jointer with a 2x4 I had lying around.
- The instructions mention assembling the dust port to the jointer, but mine came already attached. It's nice to have a separate attachment to work with a smaller dust hose as well.
- The adjustment knobs on the fence do interfere with each other, but they are spring loaded and pull out and can rotate out of the way without adjusting the set screws.
Overall, I'm giving this 5 stars. This jointer will work well for me as a beginner woodworker. It has a few nice features that other name brands have at a pretty good price point.

This Jointer has a lot going for it. There was very little assembly required, and some assembly mentioned in the book had already been done - ie the dust port. The fence attaches fairly straightforward and set to true with minor adjustments and a square although it did help to have an extra set of hands to do it. It came with an adapter so I can hook my dust collection system up without buying anything new. It is a benchtop and can be moved but I intend to attach it to a rolling tool stand I already own. The extendable tables on each side are a lot of help and a big improvement over my old jointer which wasn't so equipped. The motor seems powerful enough and didn't bog down at all for my demo. It appears that the spiral cutters will be very easy to replace when necessary.

This Wen Benchtop Jointer is a perfect match for the DIY type that turns their garage into the woodshop. I have been looking at jointers made out of cast iron and they were not something that you could easily move around the shop. This Wen Jointer comes with a quiet, powerful motor, long flat table, and sharp blades. It is easy to assemble and move around the shop for those that have limited space to work in. I like to find old wood, or pallets and use them in my projects. This easily handles what ever I feed it and produces perfect straight edges for gluing. I currently have it on a small work bench, but I am probably going to mount it to a table with locking wheels so I can pull it out when I need it.

WEN 10 AMP 8 IN. SPIRAL BENCHTOP JOINTER WITH EXTENDABLE TABLE. I was impressed with this product before I got it out of the box. The planner/joiner was packed in two heavy duty boxes with strong cardboard edging on both layers. Then the machine was pillowed in thick Styrofoam to ensure that the planner/joiner stayed in perfect shape and calibrated. I found the instruction book very easy to understand and complete with all the information to setup, calibrate and operate the machine. There are some simple assembly pieces to put on before the planner can be used. All the tools required to install the parts and adjust if required. The level adjustment is quite easy to read and adjust then lock in place to prevent changes. I tried the planner on a piece of rough saw cedar and after two passes at a small level the results were very satisfactory. The handles on the left and right pull out about a foot to give more table space when working with for longer stock. The table is very highly polished and smooth. The motor sounds powerful and had no issues planning through the rough material.
