Great product. Especially for the price point. Good construction, smooth quiet operation, nice features, and just solid all around. Only gripe and reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the LEDs are battery powered instead of being integrated with the 120v power supply. Glad the batteries were included at least. Otherwise I love it.

I just purchased this and set it up today. I've read quite a few reviews that complained about vibration. When I first fired it up, yup.... It vibrated! Here's the thing... If a unit is defective, it's defective, but nobody ships a grinder that's all set up and tuned. Even if they did, they have no control over what happens during shipping. So, plan on spending some time aligning and dressing the wheels! I spent about half an hour, to 45 minutes finding the "sweet-spot" where the wheels didn't wobble, and then, using one of the inexpensive wheel dressers, took off some material from the face. (not going to explain how.... check out YouTube). Now, it runs on my bench without being bolted down, doesn't walk, and actually sounds decent. This is NOT a $1,000 bench vice! It is, however, VERY nice for the price! If I can figure out how to do it, I'll upload a video.

When I recieved this grinder I spun the wheels, very smooth. Plug it in and purrs like a kitten, won't even have to bolt it down. Started it up again to full speed then turned off, it took 3 min and 20 sec for the wheels to completely stop. That is smooth, very happy. Will use the grinder for sharpening lathe tools.

After extensive deliberation and research on picking out a bench grinder, I settled for this one. Although I've never owned a Wen product before, I must say I was more than impressed with this tool when it arrived well packaged and as scheduled. I'm confidant you'd be hard pressed to find a better unit for the money than what this Wen has to offer. I don't use a grinder that often, but it's nice to have one for when you do need one. And I'm using it more than I thought. Eventually I want to get the brush. Only thing I see that would be nice is if they had four mounting holes in the corners opposed to just two located in a tight spot under the motor. I had to mark the holes to drill in the bench which was a little tricky in itself, then drill the holes and bolt coming up from the bottom and nut on top. (see photo) That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It's a 5 star unit in my opinion, but do believe a better way to fasten it to the bench would be helpful. I used 3/8 inch bolts which filled the mounting holes in the grinder. My bench is 3 inches thick and 4 inch bolts were a tad short, so had to use the 5 inch, which was plenty long enough. All in all, I'd recommend this grinder to anyone that likes to tinker in the garage and keep his mower blades, shovels, knives and drill bits nice and sharp. And it looks good too. Very pleased. There were a couple pieces missing in the box when it came (the right and left tool rest brackets) and I called customer service and they quickly got them out to me. Very professional and top notch service. I'll be looking into more Wen products in the future.

This WEN is extremely well designed and runs smooth. Unless you are willing to pay $200 look no further, this is the one. I have used machine shop quality grinders and will admit this is not up to the quality of a $200+ machine but for $65 this machine is amazing. I looked at cheaper grinders and saw the review comments about excess vibration so I asked my neighbor who had one to see his machine. WOW! The cheaper grinders really have a balance problem. The LED lights are battery powered but they are well positioned and provide the light where you need it. While it is best to bolt it down on a bench, you can take this one with you to the job site. I put it to the test sharpening 30 flail mower chopper blades while sitting on a portable work stand. No problem with it walking off the stand and more than enough power to grind an edge back on the blades.

This machine was a great value for me for $80. I can sharpen all of my lawn mower blades and not replace another for a couple years. I made a cool video and wanted to share the results, but not sure if I have the option to add that here. Can't grind 1" steel like a shop machine, but it can really sharpen and refurbish light steel projects. Worth every penny. It doesn't come with a stand, so make sure you purchase or build one.

What a surprise! to be honest my expectations for this bench grinder were not very high. Like most in the industry it is made in china. i have not had any experience with the WEN brand. Once i started un-boxing it i started looking for flaws. i was hard pressed to find any. the unit is VERY smooth, does not appear to have any run-out. the manual is very well written, clear & has a few helpful application suggestions. the unit starts slow, once spinning really gets going. all the way to 3450 RPM. The lights are battery powered & each have a switch. no doubt they will last a long time, since only on when needed. Unlike some it came with a coarse & fine wheel. the only thing i could find that was not perfect was a few blemishes on the finish of the base of the grinder. a little rough, paint flaking. NOT even close to an issue. also 4 screws that hold the safety shields were missing. a short phone call to the mfg & the screws arrived in a few days as stated when i called. ALL in ALL i will definitely consider more of the WEN products!!

Excellent Performance! I received the Wen 8 Inch Bench grinder and quickly put it to test. This is truly an excellent grinder and should be in service for several years in my farm and ranch operations. Though it is a large and powerful motor, it quickly gets up to speed in seconds. It mounted perfectly on a grinder pedestal and should fit any common pedestal brands out on the market today. I opted to purchase the wire wheel (the ordering information was included in the operation manual). It mounted very easily. There are several features on this machine that reflect well on the Wen name. To start with, it runs incredibly smooth when mounted on a pedestal instead of a wood bench. I like the eye guards and even more so, the lights that shine on exactly where you need it. The left side guard is especially beneficial in that there is a groove embedded in it. I measured it at 59 degrees, which is important because it allows you to sharpen drill bits to a perfect 118 degree angle. ( I spent the better part of an afternoon sharpening every drill bit I had!). It did a great job of that. Having the groove embedded into the guard made safer to use that one that you have to hold in your hand and on a handheld guard at the same time. The cooling well is also a nice touch, especially for drill bits. The wire brush worked equally as well. Like utilizing any wire brush, the eye guards are very necessary. All-in-all, it is a great grinder for the cost. I'm impressed with the Wen products and their customer service (when ordering the wire brush)

After receiving Wen's new 4.8 Amp 8 inch bench grinder, today I put it to the test. After hours of sharpening Cobalt drill bits, the verdict is in: The Wen 4.8 Amp bench grinder is a winner. Not once during operation did the grinder show any signs of fatigue. While the motor housing did get nice and hot to the touch, the fans were adequate to keep the unit humming along. There was also plenty of power. The wheel never stopped or even slowed even with some pressure applied against it. It took a second to get up to speed, and a little under a minute to cool itself and slow to a stop during operation. The lights in the shield assemblies above each wheel act as a spotlight concentrating a bright clear beam at whatever point on the wheel you choose allowing you to easily see your work in detail even in a dim setting. Comes with a quenching tray which rests at the foot of the grinder. The on-off button has a nice solid click to it. Everything feels well put together. And setting it up was a snap. It is thoughtfully laid out in the packaging with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions for setting it up and performing different grinding projects (such as sharpening drill bits). I am perfectly content with this grinder and hope to get years of use out of it personally and professionally. It was oh so close to perfect. But there were a few areas for improvement, mostly cosmetic. First of all, the shield assemblies are plastic. I'd prefer metal. The screws that mount the assemblies on their brackets thread into the brackets themselves. One could not be tightened. An easy fix will be to throw some nuts on them, but it would be nice if they came with nuts in addition to or in lieu of the tapped threads. While the orange motor housing looked great and had zero issues, the metal base already had some of its black coating chipping in a few spots right out of the package. Lastly, it would have been nice to add a traditional center light to light the overall workpiece, but again an easy fix is to supply my own. These minor annoyances are room for improvement. All in all, for under $80, its a 5 star value and should meet the grinding needs of anyone looking for a basic bench grinder to cover general applications. Time will tell whether the grinder is built to last. I'll update this review if my opinion changes after prolonged use. Note in the video: I did not have the grinder bolted down. It was causing the desk upon which it was sitting plus other contents on the desk to vibrate. When I put pressure on the desk, it quieted down considerably.
