Q:Could I use ceramic base paint with this sprayer
    by|Nov 27, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  You can, but the paint is thick and will require thinning for spraying with an HVLP tool. Also, there are a few things you can do to paint/stain to ensure it sprays well. 1 - Stir the paint/stain with a mixer in a drill until its creamy smooth, about 1 min per gallon 2 - Strain the paint/stain before it goes into the sprayer 3 - Add a flow agent, like Floetrol or Paint Easy (this is not a thinner) for latex paint – Penetrol for oil based 4 - Or you can thin, even as little as 5% can make a big difference, water for water based materials and mineral spirits for oil based material. Up to 20% is fine. Good luck with your projects.

Q:Could I use paint with exterior ceramic paint the exterior walls
      by|Nov 25, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Two indications that this might be difficult to spray with HVLP. The paint manufacturer says to use an airless tip size from .017” to .023” and thickness of application is 7.1 mils to 10.1 mils wet, to get 3.4 mils to 4.8 mils dry. This seems to be very thick material that may require a stronger sprayer, like one of our Control Pro units, like this one - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wagner-Control-Pro-170-High-Efficiency-Airless-Paint-and-Stain-Sprayer-0580001/301870653 Contact us with questions at 1-800-328-8251.

          Waste of money
The spray quality is beyond poor. You would be better off turning a fan on and throwing a bucket of paint in front of it. No matter how much you thin or adjust it’s purely a gimmick tool it will not give the results you want.

            Do not buy this sprayer
No matter the settings, the sprayer spits globs of paint. Cleaned the tip every 30 seconds, yes seconds, and still spits globs of paint. See closeup of pic. May work well for textured walls or ceilings. However, do not use for any smooth finish work.

Response from Wagner Spray TechSep 11, 2023
We agree that this is not the setup for any fine finishing work. The Flexio 2500 only comes with the iSpray nozzle which is set up for your fence, deck and walls and it will leave a roller like texture. For a fine finish you can add the Detail Finish nozzle (529013) for finer atomization, when using thinner materials. The Detail Finish nozzle comes with the Flexio 3500 kit. Good luck with your projects. WagnerSprayTech

I was really impressed at the quality of this paint sprayer. This is our 2nd paint sprayer since being married. Our 1st sprayer, decades ago, was the plunger type which was harder to clean and very noisy. This sprayer is much nicer… blows air instead of a plunger and way easier to clean up afterwards. I like it a lot.

              Only one advantage over rolling
The first time I sprayed (practiced with water first) the sprayer worked well but it's very time-consuming. I had it set to the maximum spray area and got terrible coverage, it took three coats and it's still not perfect but I'm leaving it since it's the basement. The only advantage compared to rolling was that I didn't have to edge around shelving. The second day I used it, even if I released the trigger, it kept spraying. I regret not wearing a mask because I inhaled a Ton of paint, my nose was completely white. The worst part was the extensive cleanup. Clean it in the yard with a hose. My septic is full of paint now. Glad I experienced it but from now on I use a roller, get perfect coverage, then drop it in the trash.

Response from Wagner Spray TechAug 9, 2023
We're sorry you had such a bad experience with the sprayer. Typically you want the turbine speed on high and the flow control at it's lowest setting. Slowly turn the flow control up a little at a time until you are getting a good pattern. If paint continued to come out it may be because there is a little paint built up on the front of the needle so it is not closing off or the back part of the needle, which you can't see. Your best bet is to soak the whole front end in some warm soapy water, clean it out with clean water, and spray some clean water through. Use the brush to clean out the holes in the bottom of the housing and inside the housing where the needle comes through. Please call us at 1-800-328-8251 if you need any further assistance. Nice sprayer
I really appreciated having this sprayer. Im in the process of upgrading things in my home. This has made the task so much faster. Once you get the hang of your paint consistency you will be fine. Always test before you spray and keep a rag close to clean the nozzle (it gets build up). I have sprayed paint and primer with this. It is easy to clean up. Keep cleaning until the water runs clear.

                    Good for the price
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This paint gun is very easy to use and to clean, I was able to paint a whole room 12x12 in less than an hour with no flaws. I highly recommended, specially if you are a one man/woman show, no extra help needed.

I tried to review here, but this form is cutting me off at 500 characters?! See pics for my review, since I have a lot of commentary. Who can fit a review for something like this into 500 characters? I see that others have posted long reviews just fine, not sure why I can't. Come on, Home Depot!

A sprayer that gets you close: little overspray
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Over the past 6 months, I’ve had reason to use my Flexio 2500 three times and, over all, I’m happy with the product. You might be surprised to read that my most satisfying use for it is as a garden sprayer! The power boost gives me extra height and distance to cover tall, broad shrubs and trees. I no longer have to climb a ladder while juggling my tank sprayer, hose, and handle. Plus, the Flexio easily handles a thicker substance like WiltPruf. It’s a great tool to help to protect your garden! As a painting tool, here’s my quick take: • This version of the Flexio is quick to set up and easy to clean after use. • There is very little overspray, perhaps because you need to be only 6-8” from the surface. (Think about that – even cans of spray paint advise a 12” distance.) • It has some nice features that I will later point out. However, • Because the machine is designed to be lightweight, the Flexio canister holds only a quart of paint (if you fill beyond that, you risk spills when trying to reattach the canister to the sprayer). So if you want to paint large areas, you will find that refills are frequent. • You can’t seriously paint ceilings with this machine – use the Wagner Control Pro (I’ve had mine for several years now, and think it is a fabulous product). This brings me to my first recommendation to the reader: DON’T BOTHER WITH A SPRAYER IF YOU ARE PAINTING A PLAIN ROOM SMALLER THAN 14x16. The set up and clean up time are not justified – use a roller and brush. And here comes my second recommendation to the reader: If the room has crown mouldings, wainscoting, or other decorative treatments, then definitely DO USE A SPRAYER, and the Flexio is a good one to try. Brushing over these irregular surfaces is time consuming, and a paint sprayer makes the job so much easier. My first experience with this particular sprayer was in July of 2021, when ambient temperatures were 90 degrees (Fahrenheit) and above. I was trying to paint crown mouldings on 12-foot ceilings, in a new, unconditioned room. I had the spray nozzle clog continuously after a short period of time. I even thinned the paint and that didn’t correct the problem. I had to give up on the sprayer, but I blame the heat and the paint, not the sprayer. So, here’s my third recommendation to the reader: Don’t try to spray paint when ambient temperatures are above 83 degrees Fahrenheit. In October of 2021, I tried painting with the sprayer again, this time on a worktable that I hastily built, using scrap lumber that I culled from a construction site. The Fexio made painting a breeze – I’m sure it cut painting time by more than half had I used a brush. (See picture.)   And, here comes my fourth recommendation to the reader: Don’t use anything BUT a paint sprayer if you are painting furniture, decks, fences, shiplap, doors (multiple), shutters, or any other surface that has many sides, or is rough in texture. You will save yourself an immense amount of time by using a sprayer. So which sprayer should you choose? I haven’t tried any sprayer other than a Wagner. My viewpoint is: buy quality and save headaches. There are nice features with the Flexio: • It’s light, and easy to maneuver. • The cannister fits snugly into the top of a gallon paint can, so that when your job is finished, you can easily return unused material into the can. (See picture.) • The on/off switch is two-sided, so it doesn’t matter if you are holding the sprayer with your left or right hand – the switch is easy to flip. (Red “button” in picture.) • The parts are designed so that clean-up is relatively easy. The question becomes which one do you buy. As I mentioned before, I use the Control Pro for larger jobs, and now the Flexio for special purposes. Here are some “tips” to help your spraying experience be more productive: • Don’t fill the cannister completely full, otherwise you’ll end up spilling paint everywhere when you try to re-install it onto the blower, or when you angle the nozzle to spray. • Have some toothpicks handy. A cleaning brush is provided, but the pick helps clean the sprayhead as you are working. • Use safety glasses and a mask – as you move around, the nozzle can easily end up pointed at you! • Don’t take a long break without cleaning the nozzle, and don’t wait to clean the machine when you are finished with the machine. Good luck with your painting projects, and remember to try using the Flexio as your garden sprayer!!
