A:  Simple answer is no, it won't support the same amount of weight. BUT your question needs more perspective. I mounted mine in drywall because I needed more flexibility in positioning the panels. Each panel is secured with SIX screws and drywall anchors. My drywall is 1/2". Thicker drywall would also provide more "capacity". Also depends on what you're loading on to your panels. Mine is mostly hand tools. The heaviest stuff is my containers of hardware stacked on the shelves. No issues for load bearing capacity that I can tell. Getting too technical, typical center of gravity for most tools is snug up against the panel so most of the force is straight down, parallel with the panel. Long hooks or deep shelves would change the CG creating some torsional force against the anchors. Slamming tools onto hooks and shelves would also create some problem. Hanging 20 sledge hammers on your panel may or may not be a load problem. But that's just silly to abuse your cool new tool organization system ;)

A:  You should be able to find 1 stud for each panel. Each one of mine hits at least 1 stud. The rest are installed with wall anchors. I haven't had any problems.

A:  You would loose the use of the vertical slots for the Wall Control Slot Accessories. Sounds like space across from side to side is the issue. A possible solution where height is not the issue; a 32x48 package plus a single 16x32 package which would built into a 64 tall by 32 wide format
