I have a well that's 85 to 95 foot deep can this hand pump the water up out of the well?

The pump is for drawing water from a depth of 20-30 feet and as long as your well has a casing and the water level is up to 10 or so feet in the pipe the pump will work i would imagine.

The pitcher pump will pump water from a maximum depth of 20-25 feet. You will use 1-1/4 inch pipe to connect to the bottom of the pitcher pump. The bottom of the pump is female NPT threaded. You want the pump as close to the source of water as possible for best performance.

I'm at 40' and can't get water to the top,if I reduce pipe from 1-1/4 to 3/4 will that increase my pressure enough to get it?

it is a suction pump and not under pressure keeping handle down when weather is above freezing uses less water 32 oz or less to prime if you prime the pump give internal leather gaskets enough time to absorb/expand and keep adding water using short strokes if you cannot draw water then 1. pipe may be above water level as you need to check both depth of water and length of down pipe 2. lastly you may buy a replacement kit if all else fails

It depends on how fast/ hard you pump. I think about the best I've achieved is around 2 gallons/minute.

Do I need a check valve and if so, where do I install it ?

Asked by Jerlee July 21, 2019

Answers

There should be a "foot" valve installed at the bottom of the pipe. The rudimentary check valve on the pump doesn't hold for a very long time. In the "old" days, a container of water was kept beside the pump to prime it.

So to leave your pump out over winter, don’t install a foot valve?

Asked by Renograndma February 10, 2019

Answers

The foot valve keeps the water in the tubing attached to the pump. In order to use the pump in freezing weather it must : * not have a foot valve * handle must be kept up which allows the water to fall back down in * primp the pump in freezing weather and wait 10-15 minutes for the leather gaskets to absorb water as the gaskets may be frozen to the pump metal housing Winter use just means it requires a little more water to prime the pump which generally is 32 oz but in summer when handle is kept down (strap, bungie, rubber band, rope) less than 32 oz

The paint job was not great. There was a place that did not get painted which will start to rust soon. About a week after I installed the pump, I noticed all this black stuff had come out of it down near the base like there's something rubber inside that is leaching out. It's stained the base so it definitely needs to be painted now. You also have to prime the pump every time you want to use it.
