Answer

The mix of lengths will change from store to store. The lengths they receive is 6' through 12'. I'm sorry, I'm unable to fully answer your question.

Can lengths be cut to 9 feet?

Answer

I'll answer my own question. I went to the store and found that the boards were already exactly 9 feet. Perfect for my needs. I believe there were longer lengths, too, but I did not check those carefully.

Yes it is.

What type of oak is this? (Red / White) and is it safe to use for a whiskey barrel? (No Chemicals)

It is red oak or at least it is at my store. Think it is the same at all stores. The manufacturer will have to answer the question about chemicals.

The wooden slats on the seat portion of my outdoor park bench and also along each side of the back section had started to rot out, so I used this oak board to replace all of the slats. The quality of this wood was excellent, and needed very little sanding prior to staining with just one coat of golden oak stain followed by three coats of spar varnish. I also repainted the metal seat sections with Rust-oleum Painter's Touch gloss black spray paint (with primer included) and also installed new zinc-plated nuts, bolts, washers, and screws, all purchased at Home Depot with the help and advice of one of their friendly sales assistants in the lumber department.

Decent but bland oak. Most of the boards in the stack were not straight and/or pretty warped so it took a while to find some boards that were good enough for my project (shaker cabinet doors). I didn't notice it in the store but a couple of the boards had some chunks out of the edges. I was fortunately able to work around these flaws. The wood did stain up nicely (Minwax Special Walnut)..

I used this 1 x 3 red oak for the rails and stiles on a small cabinet that houses my low voltage wiring. I also used the 1 x 2 for the faceframe that was attached to oak veneer plywood sides with Kreg pocket screws. All items came from The Home Depot. I just wish they carried more items that can be used for cabinet building. The wood is reasonably straight and true with virtually no planer chatter marks Just wish people would be more careful about restacking when they pick through to get what they want. Maybe someone will come up with an innovative way to store this at The Home Depot.
