Questions & Answers

can these be used to frame screen panels for porch

Asked by: MissC
They can. Being pressure treated they will resist rotting but they should still be painted to fully protect the wood.

Can these be attached to the posts of an existing chain link fence? I want to add height for privacy.

Asked by: Gypsy81165
I would not think they were strong enough to hold a chain link fence.

is this lumber safe to use as bed slats

Asked by: rich
No, do not use any lumber inside that was pressure-treated. Like stated above, the chemicals will release from the warmth, and they are pretty dangerous in the long time. There is no need to use weatherproof lumber inside. It does not make it any stronger or more durable for your purposes.

Do you carry a 2"x1/2"x8' board?
Asked by: Gator
yes, there are 2 kinds, and both are the bargain of the store if used right away, often $1.79 to 1.98 each: 1.firring strips are sharp-edged usually a bit rough-hewn and measure 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 8'. 2. the pressure-treated ones measure same, with rounded edges--I have used (and wasted many of these). from the factory they are steel-strapped in 12 bundles, so if I order a delivery, I only get that amount specifying "unopened strapping" because they immediately start correcting when un-strapped--they will bend up or sideways overnight. I have had an order shorted plastic-strap together a mismatched block of them and you can usually tell by the coloration, so I clipped them open and sure enough they sprung out all different directions. Some can be bent back while nailing into place, but I wouldn't chance it--because they are cut perfectly and can remain that way for your project, I have enven screw them together lattic-like for a rose fence and had them last more than 10years..

Customer Reviews

1 in. x 2 in. x 8 ft. Pressure-Treated Board is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clarifying Dimensions There is nothing misleading about the dimensions stated. This type of lumber such as 2x4, 2x6,1x2, etc is called "dimensional lumber" and it's what is typically used in wood construction. The cross section size is the size of the lumber BEFORE it was cut to the final size at the mill. The discrepancy between the advertised size and the actual size is the "waste" from the milling operation. The width of the saw blade is approximately 1/4 inch and a board typically goes through one or two passes to get to the final dimension. That's why a 2x4 is actually 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. The difference in stated size and actual size has been a known constant for decades and more. In fact it's so consistent that architectural and CAD software takes this into account when designing a structure. I'm surprised that some "DIYers" would even bring it up as justification to downrate a review.

The grain of the wood causes for easy splitting if driving nails with pneumatic tools. Most boards were warped and had to be nailed straight. Otherwise served its purpose.
