Questions & Answers

is this lumber safe to use as bed slats

Asked by: rich
PT is perfectly safe to use as bed slats. In the South they frame interior and exterior walls with PT as a termite deterrent. I've been cutting and breathing it for 30+ years (my lungs are well preserved, lol). Actually, I wouldn't recommend breathing it when cutting, or making a picnic table outta it. Other than that use it for whatever u want

1 in. x 2 in. x 8 ft. Pressure-Treated Board is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm satisfied with the online order of these boards. ... I'm satisfied with the online order of these boards. Once I arrived for pick-up they were already set aside so I confirmed the correct number was present (200). Although there were several boards cracked, I can only imagine that would be the case with such a big order and with boards this size. Will be using the boards in the next couple of weeks for a pergola over the deck.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What I could order on line was not as much... What I could order on line was not as much choice as in store. What I got was not as good. One piece snapped when putting in car and one piece was not a wood match. Time was of limit so I just took anyway. Not good

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does its job First off let me start with a comment to the DIYers out there. Dont take lumber home then complain about the dimensions of it. Home Depot also sells an amazing device called a tape measure and if you find it and dont understand how it works, ask someone. Its crazy its the 21st century and this is a complaint. I bought this lumber to redo the carnish that my gutters destroyed ( i just bought the house and will do it right this time). The lumber is pressure treated for the outdoors and resist termites. What more could you ask for. No splintering and i ran 500 feet of it around the exterior with the correct size nails. Performed great!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clarifying Dimensions There is nothing misleading about the dimensions stated. This type of lumber such as 2x4, 2x6,1x2, etc is called "dimensional lumber" and it's what is typically used in wood construction. The cross section size is the size of the lumber BEFORE it was cut to the final size at the mill. The discrepancy between the advertised size and the actual size is the "waste" from the milling operation. The width of the saw blade is approximately 1/4 inch and a board typically goes through one or two passes to get to the final dimension. That's why a 2x4 is actually 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. The difference in stated size and actual size has been a known constant for decades and more. In fact it's so consistent that architectural and CAD software takes this into account when designing a structure. I'm surprised that some "DIYers" would even bring it up as justification to downrate a review.
