    Q:Are the actual measurements 2x2

    Answer This Question

    A:  Actual measure is 1and 1/4.

    by|May 5, 2022

A:  I would say close but not 2 even

      by|Jul 8, 2022

A:  No. They measure 1-1/4” x 1-1/4”. (An inch and and a quarter by an inch and a quarter)

        by|May 8, 2022

A:  Tizz, These balusters measure 1-3/8" by 1-3/8".

          by|May 2, 2022

            A:  I think they are 1 3/8” square. I don’t remember exactly.

            by|May 5, 2022

A:  The nominal measurement (what we call it) is 2x2, but the actual is 1.5x1.5. This is in line with other lumber measurements, like 2x4's are 1.5x3.5's. Even craft and finished lumbers are not the size they call them most of the time, but the names are more convenient and represent the "types" of wood used more than the actual measurements. This has been the standard practice in the lumber industry for decades.

Q:Can weathershield pressure treated wood be used indoors in a clothes closet?

                Answer This Question

A:  Not sure why you would want pressure treated wood for inside use. They have standard wood of the same specs for sale also. Pressure treated wood due to the process will literally feel damp to the touch when you pick it up at the store. I wouldn't use that in a closet.

                by|Apr 4, 2021

A:  Yes, I think so. You could use these in a closet.

                by|Apr 5, 2021

A:  Hello Roc1111, There should be no problem with that; the use of such wood around food preparation is the only time that it is not encouraged for use indoors.

                  by|Apr 5, 2021

A:  It can be but why would you use more expensive weather treated materials indoor when non-treated is usually much less expensive.

Q:how much footage does 16 cover?

                      Answer This Question

A:  Just over 8 linear feet. I used a 2x6 as a spacer between the balusters, so about one baluster every 7".

                      by|Jul 3, 2020

A:  Your building code could be different but here there is to be max of 4" between ballusters, so 5.5" OC comes to 88"

A:  I am a little confused by your question, because I used these to go between the top rail and the lower joist of my deck. I used a standard spacing between each one, so if you alter that spacing, you wind up with a larger area.

These balusters worked out great. I ordered 96 but only needed 91. All of them were straight and worked out great. When I received them they were all very damp, all most wet, and I'm not sure why, but they seemed to dry out just fine. The only downside was it took nearly 2 weeks to get them to the store so I could pick them up. That is my only complaint with HD, their special orders seem slow.

Just buy extras. Not all are in good shape. I bought a extra bundle and iam glad i did. They look good. Didn't bother to stain them. Like the contrast between the light color rails and the redwood deck.

i ordered 64 pieces to use as railing balusters. Due to bends, chatter marks, knots 12 were totally unusable and 6 were marginal. Box and wood were thoroughly soaked in rain. Description said that these were true size 2x2". They are not. Standard 1-1/2x1-1/2". On the plus side, the usable pieces look great after 2 coats of sealer/primer and a top coat.

The balusters are what they are but are made with very poor quality control. Only about half of the balusters in a bundle are usable with many of them warped, cracked, with large knots falling out, or poorly mitered. If you weed out the bad ones, the remaining ones are fine for their intended use, particularly if you pre-drill the balusters and intend to paint them. However, the extra work of sorting through them leaves these balusters with only a narrow advantage over making your own.

Pressure treated 2 x 2 pickets mitered on 1 end
Excellent value of a 16 pack of 2 x 2 pickets which was used for replacing deck railing. Less expensive than purchasing the pieces individually. The price also included FREE shipping right to our door. Very happy to find this item was mitered on one end, which literally saved me hours of work. The wood was pressure treated, which will hold up well in the damp weather in the Seattle area. Also bought other lumber from Home Depot to complete the project. Although one of the pieces was broken, I would recommend this product.
