Preventative Maintenance Plan

1. Depending on the location of your outdoor project with regard to direct sun exposure, foliage coverage, etc., it may be sufficient to clean/brighten and recoat every two years. 2. If you decide to wait two or more years to perform your next cleaning/brightening, you may want to use a power washer. Be sure that the cleaner/brightener you use contains a mildewcide.

Choosing The Right Stain Or Paint

When determining the right stain and paint for your deck, consider what color will best enhance the wood's finish.

Paint or Stain Tips

If you desire to paint or stain the treated wood project, it is important that the wood be dry enough to accept a coating. The best way to determine if the wood is sufficiently dry to paint or stain is to sprinkle droplets of water onto the wood. If the water droplets are absorbed, the wood is ready to be painted or stained. If the water droplets bead on the surface of the wood, it is too wet. You should wait a few days before attempting to paint and stain the wood.

About This Product

Every piece meets the highest grading standards for strength and appearance. This lumber is pressure treated in order to protect it from termites and rot. Ideal for a variety of applications, including decks, docks, ramps, and other outdoor projects where lumber is exposed to the elements. This lumber is color infused with lasting cedar-tone colorant. When used properly, it is both safe and environmentally friendly.Treated wood is typically still wet when it's delivered to The Home Depot or job site. As it dries, you should expect slight changes in width and length. As lumber dries, it may split, cup and warp. This is more likely to occur to occur in lower-grade boards, where knots and uneven grains are already present. Each piece of lumber is unique and carries physical characteristics that may include the following: knots, warping, shrinkage, swelling and/or splitting.

Q:Is this product safe for use in vegetable beds?
    by|Apr 6, 2020

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes it is. It is seal coated pressure treated desinged to be in direct contact with the soil. I would suggest an additional step before installing is to paint the wood also. It is just an extra step of helping prolong the life of the wood in that the soil is almost always moist if not wet. If you truly want to keep the beautiful Cedar Tone appearance, instead of paint, use a clear water proof sealer---Home Depot carries several types and brands. If possible, clean each spring and apply a new coat.

Very dimensionally inconsistent, even after allowing to dry out. Length, width, all quite variable.

Dear Manticorny, we are sorry to hear this product did not meet your expectations. Treated wood is typically still wet when it's delivered to our retailers. As lumber dries, it may split, cup and warp, which are natural occurrences of wood. If you would like the opportunity to discuss the issue further, please reach out to UFP Retail Solutions at UFPRetailCS@UFPI.com, referencing this review, and one of our customer service representatives will be happy to assist you.

I managed to find a decent piece, with only ~3 knots and fairly straight, but had to summon a store employee to cut the straps on an unopened bundle in order to do so. The ~20 that were loose prior to that all had major defects, such as large knots nearly the entire thickness of the 2x2, or so crooked that there wasn't more than 3 or 4 feet of straight section. I needed 6 feet of fairly straight wood with only small knots, which I finally found in the freshly-opened bundle.
