Preventative Maintenance Plan

1. Depending on the location of your outdoor project with regard to direct sun exposure, foliage coverage, etc., it may be sufficient to clean/brighten and recoat every two years. 2. If you decide to wait two or more years to perform your next cleaning/brightening, you may want to use a power washer. Be sure that the cleaner/brightener you use contains a mildewcide.

Choosing The Right Stain Or Paint

When determining the right stain and paint for your deck, consider what color will best enhance the wood's finish.

Paint or Stain Tips

If you desire to paint or stain the treated wood project, it is important that the wood be dry enough to accept a coating. The best way to determine if the wood is sufficiently dry to paint or stain is to sprinkle droplets of water onto the wood. If the water droplets are absorbed, the wood is ready to be painted or stained. If the water droplets bead on the surface of the wood, it is too wet. You should wait a few days before attempting to paint and stain the wood.

About This Product

Pressure-Treated Southern Yellow Pine meets the highest grading standards for strength and appearance. Treated for protection against fungal decay, rot and termites, it is ideal for ground contact and a variety of general uses including exposed structures, sill plates, decks, docks, ramps and other outdoor applications. Responsibly manufactured from renewable southern yellow pine, this lumber is both safe and environmentally friendly when used as directed in appropriate applications.Treated wood is typically still wet when it's delivered to The Home Depot or job site. As it dries, you should expect slight changes in width and length. As lumber dries, it may split, cup and warp. This is more likely to occur to occur in lower-grade boards, where knots and uneven grains are already present. Each piece of lumber is unique and carries physical characteristics that may include the following: knots, warping, shrinkage, swelling and/or splitting.

Q:Can this be wrapped with aluminum? i.e. Fascia board
by|May 10, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Otto, aluminum contact is not recommended when Pressure-Treated wood products are immersed in water or are subject to frequent and prolonged wetting or other severe exposure conditions. In such cases, a moisture-resistant protective barrier should be placed between the aluminum products and Pressure-Treated wood. Pressure-Treated wood should not be encased, sealed or wrapped with aluminum products where moisture or water can be trapped to avoid pitting or other unwanted results. Mold growth may occur on building products, including untreated or treated wood. To remove mold from a treated wood surface, mild soap and water is typically used.

A:  "A: Nothing will hold up to constant water contact. It will last for a little while. Maybe a year or two?" .60 CCA used to be used for permanent wood foundations, they lasted 50+ years below ground without a single failure.

A:  It will rot eventually, but perhaps more important, it will leach cuprous cyanide into the water.

            by|Apr 30, 2020

A:  I would not recommend for that application as they will rot over time.

              by|May 20, 2020

A:  Don't listen to the guy talking about cyanide, that is ridiculous. This is copper based, PT wopod used to be ARSINATE based, a less toxic form or arsenic, but never cyanide.

I ordered 19 of these boards. Unfortunately someone did not check the order before delivery and I only received 18. Customer service did help me get credit for the missing board and they were very nice and apologetic about it, although still frustrating. Also I do wonder who puts the order together and how they mix in a few really chipped up boards that if I was selecting my order would definitely been put aside. I was able to still utilize them by hiding those boards from sight in my project. All in all my project came out fine and the cost of the lumber was reasonable. Might rethink delivery next time.
