Installed, mine is about 42 1/2" tall. The Weatherables sleeve is 45". Depending on your hardware, the blocks can be mounted higher than 42". This is also available in a 36" post.

Will the vinyl blocks allow you to attach gate

The vinyl blocks are quite sturdy as is the whole post assembly. The blocks are adjusted to the height required for hardware position. You screw your hardware through the sleeve into the blocks. I used mine on the receiver side of the gate. That worked quite well.

It mounts flush to the surface anchored by four concrete bolts. Mine is mounted on textured concrete and it worked great. The leveling bolts allow you to make the post plumb. Mine is dead plumb and extremely sturdy. The hardware is all coated to resist corrosion if that is your concern.

How does one decide whether to use a 42", 44" or 36" post?

The height of the railing you are using defines the post height. You normally have about 2" clearance on the bottom for a railing and 2" on the top.

You are correct that this will not fill the 54" post. We would recommend cutting a piece of 4x4 post to fill the gap and give the screws something to grab.

Weatherables makes a different kit for wood mount.

Is there a 5x5 inch version or adapter?

Answer

We do not make this in a 5 in. version. We do however offer a 5 in x 54 in concrete post mount that is not yet available on the dotcom. If you need to order those you can stop into a Home Depot store and have the Prodesk call us for ordering instructions. 855-224-9761. I hope this helps.

Pros: Heavy Solid Mount. Comes with all the bolts and washers. Cons: Leveling bolt (Green ones) seemed too big for the hole. Difficult to screw in. Broke some during install. Shipping: Broken plastic block (White block) during ship to store. Needed it right away so I had to epoxy it back together instead of returning and wait another 5-7 days for a replacement.

Worked well. Good and stable when anchored. Would have give 5-stars if the anchors had been the drill and hammer into concrete type instead of the screw in type.

Very sturdy and well constructed. I read other reviews where users complained the leveling bolts do not fit. If it was a problem, it has been fixed, but I suspect the wrong bolts were put in the leveling holes. A hammer drill is highly recommended; 90 seconds to drill four 3 1/2" deep holes in my concrete deck. Rent one at Home Depot. My only detractor is the size of the PVC blocks on the post. They do not fit snugly inside the post sleeve. The result is that as you put a screw in the sleeve will be pulled out of plumb. Easily solved with a couple of cedar shims. Buying another!

Poles were sturdy and easy to install but the self leveling screws were not the proper threads and the soft metal used in the screws caused one to break in half when trying to screw it in.
