New grate for old kettle.
Replaced my cooking grate on 30 year old kettle. This will allow me to better sear meat using the new temperature control system and use the other feature of the gourmet system.

Solid, durable. Better than the one that originally came with our Weber "Performer" (now worn out). In addition, I ordered a ceramic insert from Home Depot Online (something that was not originally available with the "stock" grate) -- now we can now sear steaks and burgers. Happy Father's Day! (to me).... Haven't used the searing insert yet -- still too much rain here in the Northeast! Hoping to try it out this weekend.

Much Sturdier Than The Stock Grates
I finally got the chance to use the grate this past weekend. There's much more real estate than if you bank the coals to one side, or if you bank the coals on both sides. There's no need to turn the chicken pieces; but, I did anyway because of the irregular shapes. The grate is much sturdier than the stock grate, and the removable center section allows for easier access to the vortex, and you can use a larger size vortex than may be required.

This is a great grate! I took a big risk and decided to smoke this year's Thanksgiving turkey- having never smoked anything on a Webber before. This grate made adding new coals to the fire really easy while the bird cooked for about 3 hours. I haven't tried any of the other center-ring accessories yet but I'd like to.

Had I known I would've gotten one sooner
We've had a Weber Kettle grill since 1991 and it's still going strong, only have had to replace the wooden handles with new plastic ones that won't rot. The original grate is still going strong, but this one is way more versatile and a lot thicker and heavier. Put the big, cast iron wok in it and made the best Kung Pao Chicken I've ever made - extreme high heat is the key! This thing is strong enough to handle the very heavy wok, no problem!
Pros: heavy duty, removable center section, hinged areas for adding charcoal
Cons: none, so far
Should be great (see what I did there? lol) for burgers, steaks, whatever. Good purchase.

Not so great
Came with my 70th Anniversary kettle. Nice that the sides fold up to add charcoal to the sides. Horrible that the center grate piece falls into the hot coals when attempting to clean the grates….prior to cooking, after cooking and worse when trying to clean after 1 food so another can be cooked. Horrible design.
