I had no problem with mine. I do recall that there have been issues with propane tanks being turned off (or not) at the valve and back on again. Even though you might have flames, the pressure regulator might not be providing full flow. In any event, hope you're still not seeing this problem in October!

Home Depot has several flavor bars to choose from. Go to HomeDepot.com, enter "Flavor Bar 17 Weber" into the "What can we help you find today?" search box and several different options will be displayed. Select one and scroll down to the Specifications section, looking for the length. Model # 7621, Internet # 204817383, Store SKU # 1001030030 is a pack of 5 - 17.5" long. There are others so check them out.
I have a Weber 300 3 burner and my tents are only 14 1/4 x 2 1/4, not suitable for your Brinkman. I would suggest Googling the Brinkman site to see what they have for you Model 810-8501-S
