How long is the cord on this iron? Would it be safe to use an extension cord with it?
        BySep 29, 2022
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

The cord really should be longer but yes, it is safe to use with an extension cord because this draws only 25 watts max--that is probably less than anything else you are using with an extension cord.

Spare tips are available. Contact Weller or shop online for availability. Some hobby craft stores also sell them. Take your tool with you---to match the screw thread pitch. PS---use anti-seize compound on the screw threads. Provides for easy tip change

            Too hot to handle
I bought this a few months ago and thought my issue was lack of experience. I wish I had returned it. All I want to do is write on wood. The tool is too hot for me to hold and the tips get so hot that the finest tip snapped off and after trying it again today, the second finest tip has bent.

              Fun and Easy to Use
I've been wanting to try wood burning as a hobby. I found this pen easy to use and the tips are easy to change out. It's fun to play around with on scrap wood. The smell of burning wood and the ease of the engraving is very relaxing. I was able to find plenty of inexpensive items to practice on at my local craft store and thrift shop. I've never tried wood engraving before and I found this pen easy to use and was able to complete my first project successfully. This would make a great gift for anyone who's into DIY craft projects. It came with templates and you can always find templates online or at the store. I also like how compact and easily stored it is. A great addition to my art supply closet.

Promises To Be A Handy and Fun Tool
This Weller Soldering/Wood Burning kit seems like quite a versatile tool. It includes various tips for soldering and, if you're more creative, wood burning or crafting items from other materials. I've only used it for soldering thus far and it worked great. The barrel seems to be a little shorter than my old soldering iron and that makes it very easy to precisely control. It heats up very quickly but the heat isn't transferred to the hand due to the excellent grip.

              Quality Wood Burner
I am very pleased with this. It came undamaged with a needed box for storage and various tips. I used one to start with and there are several other tips that you can use for calligraphy to tiny dots. This unit is pretty solid for the money and could use a little more insulation but it is bearable. I am pleased and look forward to more wood working using my new tool!

              Fun Soldering Iron
The post that locks the case closed presents a challenge to open, but the case itself is very nice and neatly holds all of the tips. The iron itself is ready to use after 4 or 5 minutes of heating and penetrates wood very well. Some type of pliers is needed to change the tip when heated, but I would make sure they were smooth jawed to prevent deforming the tips when removing. There are several choices of tips; however, I would have liked to have some wider tips for large lettering. I am using the soldering iron to brand beehives so I can record them for hive management. Based on the size of the tips, this could easily be used as a soldering iron for electrical joints. Great product.

              Nice tool
With my increase in woodworking, I wanted to have something to create unique character and be able to sign my work. The Weller 25-Watt/120-Volt Corded Woodburning Soldering Iron Kit (15-Piece) was a good choice. The stay cool handle and heat deflector allowed for comfortable usage of the iron. The 12 different tips allow you to create detailed designs with accuracy and precision. Comes with a nice plastic case and design motifs. Can also be used on leather and to solder wires.

              I love it
Ultimately, the most important thing Weller did with this model is deflect the heat away from your hand. Past models got too hot too quickly to hold. This new version is just fine! They call it a “stay cool handle”. In my limited experience with craft wood burning, I believe this iron’s designs allows for improved accuracy and precision, because it has a short tip-to-grip distance. I’ve used this on a variety of woods and leather, with good results. The instruction manual is extremely detailed, in my opinion. It literally explains the purpose of each unique tip type. For example, if the pattern you’re drawing requires a deep groove, they recommend the “groove tip”, show you a photo, and even suggest to move the tip slower across your piece. The manual suggests how to learn to use it, transfer designs, how to add color and apply varnish, etc. The paperwork in general goes SO FAR AND BEYOND what I’d expect, in the way of informing the user.. They even provide you sample templates to try out, for the sake of learning. See photos! Beyond that, the integrated safety rest pales in comparison to the tried and true holder you’d see in a real-deal soldering iron set (with a metal spiral). Reason I feel this way is you can more easily burn yourself. But, this is fine for a hobbyist. Tape it down to be safe. Tip change is quick and easy, but you’ll want to use needle nose pliers with smooth jaws to remove hot bits. Place them in a ceramic bowl, because they get extremely hot.

Packed with Features and Plenty of Power
I have had this for a week now and here is what I have found. This small handle has a vast array of tips for any wood burning project. You can also cut synthetic fabrics with ease. I have even used it for soldering! The handle is light but very well built and does not get hot during extended use. The tips change out in a flash with no tools needed.

              Great Burner
I am very happy with this product. It works just as advertised, if not a little better. It took no time at all to heat up. Man, does this thing burn hot. I was smoking up my garage in a matter of minutes, it was awesome. The only word of advice I would give is that you need a non-marring pliers to get the factory installed tip out. Otherwise it would be really easy to scratch it up. The little case is nice, it comes with a bunch of tips, and the grip design is great. No complaints at all. Very happy.
