This comes with a full range of tip designs - conical, chisel or screwdriver - perfect for intricate soldering applications.
My husband had done lots of electronic soldering for years. He said the LED light is nice, but it is too weak to help much. He also said that this would be a good iron if you only needed to use it occasionally for small jobs like reconnecting a broken wire. Some people had asked about the soldering tip seizing. He said his advice on the solder tips is that he would always remove the metal, soldering tip after the soldering iron had cooled down. This prevents the soldering tip from seizing (getting stuck) inside the soldering iron. He said if the tip seizes then it makes it impossible to change out the metal, soldering tip to a different size. This soldering iron comes with an interchangeable 0.8 mm tip, and its electrical cord is almost 5 feet long. This kit also includes two extra 4.0mm (5/16 inch) tips, a small coil of metal solder, a metal safety rest/holder, and a black, plastic pencil tool to hold down items being soldered like wires or to remove solder debris. The iron only uses 30 watts and heats up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. The iron does get hot quickly. Weller says this iron is good for soldering electronic items, jewelry, and small toys. Made in Mexico. For a small job, this is a handy kit to have on hand.
This sautering iron is everything you need in one package. Multiple tips, soldier wire, the iron, the stans and more. The LED lights built in are great. Be forwarded that there is no one/off switch. Much like many heating tools you just plug it in and it's ready to go. It made soldiering speaker wire to make extensions a breeze with this tool. I can't believe I wanted this long to get one.
This soldering iron is a nice inexpensive iron to have around for small jobs. It heats up fairly fast and the LED's are actually nice, they can not substitute for a flashlight but do put some light on where you are working. I would think its limit might be a 14 gauge wire or fixing a connection on a board. The handle is comfortable but does transfer some heat after running for awhile. The holder is just a piece of tin. the additional tips are easy to change. For the price you can not expect to have a workhorse iron but for minor jobs around the house works great. You do need to supply your own bag or box to store accessories and better make sure you have a roll of solder as what comes with the "kit" won't last long.
I recently received shipment of my new Weller 30 Watt/120 Volt Soldering Iron Kit. This handheld soldering iron comes with it’s own built-in Halo Ring consisting of six LED bulbs, three soldering tip options which are easily interchangeable, a small startup coil of solder, a safety support base for a hot iron, a basic set of instructions and a list of warnings and safety guidelines. I’ve worked on electronic/electrical equipment for close to 40 years now and this is a first for me having a soldering iron with built-in LED lighting that directly illuminates the components being worked on. I could really have used this technology many times over in years past to provide me better lit working conditions. Weller has been making quality soldering irons for decades now and this LED Halo Ring technology is a great choice. I highly recommend this soldering iron.
The Weller 30-Watt/120-Volt Corded Soldering Iron Kit with LED Halo Ring is a great little soldering iron for use when working with LED strips or similar small electronic devices.
The LED halo ring is a nice touch, as it provides ample illumination for the work piece. The Soldering Iron has a good feel in that hand, and is easy to maneuver in tight quarters.
The kit comes with a few tips of different configurations, too.
Not a bad little soldering kit. To start it comes with 3 tips, a small little stand to set it on and a small spool of soldering wire. I like that it has a flat part on the ring to keep it from rolling around when you set it down. The lighted handle helps light up the work area as well. It takes a couple of minutes to heat up but not too long. the small tip is great for smaller more precise jobs and the bigger tips can handle the bigger ones. The handle is comfortable and makes it easy to work with.
With so many tools and equipment being battery powered these days, I have been rebuilding my worn battery packs instead of replacing them because its a heck of a lot cheaper.
So this Weller soldering iron came at the right time, and I compared it to my older Weller soldering iron while doing my soldering projects.
My first project was replacing a worn Lithium-ion battery in my shaver. It was only lasting about 2 minutes anymore, and I am tired of buying a new expensive shaver just because the battery was bad and the blade were still sharp.
When I heated up the two irons together, the new Weller was ready to go, and melted solder on the tip, in less than two minutes. It got hot and ready to solder quick. It took my old one about 7 minutes to be ready.
The lighted “halo” ring on the new iron is really nice. It is not a focused beam like a flashlight, but more of a diffused light. Not all that bright, but just enough to help see inside a project box while soldering. I would like to see Weller put a clear lens on the halo light to allow more, and a brighter light.
As for changing the tip, it is removed easily with a small straight slot screwdriver. But I noticed after a couple of uses, the end was starting to “blue”. So follow the advice of the instructions and apply a little graphite to the end so it doesn’t seize up from the excess heat.
The iron comes with two more flat end tips, a stand, a probe tool, and extra solder. I’m not sure if it’s electronic solder or not. I could not find anything on the box or in the instructions on the type of solder it is.
My shaver is new again. And this Weller soldering iron is the best I have ever used. It gets so hot, so fast. And the lighted end….oh, yeah!
I have a large desk Soldering Iron that is not portable, I have a rechargeable soldering iron that is ok for use where electricity is not available. This is the perfect middle ground for use away from the big iron or for projects where the big iron is overkill. This iron comes with three tips, a stand, a pick and a little bit of solder. The LED lights really help with its use.
This Weller 30-watt soldering iron is a nice update to the typical 30-watt soldering iron that is so familiar to many of us. It's a solid soldering iron that has replaceable tips and a pencil grip, there isn't a 15-watt switch setting like my old 30-watt iron, however. The bulge in the middle is an array of 6 LEDs that light up whenever the iron is plugged in. The "LED Halo Ring" is a very useful feature that provides fairly bright light right at the solder joint where it is needed most. I really like how the LEDs light the work area. I appreciate that the kit comes with two flat-end tips in addition to the standard pointed tip. The included solder and wire tool are also appreciated. In use, this works just like every other 30-watt soldering iron except that you don't have to set up an additional light to be able to see the work area. The only odd thing about the iron is that the LED ring is large enough that the iron will only rest on the included stand if the stand is positioned up close to the LED ring. A minor issue as the light ring will hold the tip off the table all by itself. The only problem is that the iron can roll a bit without resting on the stand. I'm going to modify the stand a bit so it is taller and will hold up the iron.
Weller…. 30-Watt 120 Volt Corded Soldering Iron, I picked this soldering iron because I did not have one and it has been many years since I have had one. But I am glad to have one now since I have used it several times in the week that I have had it, a soldering iron is straight forward to use. This one has some good features, I like that it has the Halo Ring (A Ring of LED’s), having this ring of light really helps when soldering your project, also I like the pencil grip design for better control, this one has a replaceable tip feature which allows you to replace the tip for the job at hand, this is a high quality 30 watt soldering Iron that heats up quick.
