Q:is the little bit of solder wire that's included electric solder?
    by|Mar 14, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  A little bit of solder is included. But strongly recommend getting some more electrical Rosin core solder. Do not use plumbers solder, as it is acid based, not flux based.

      The best in the business
When my husband opened this package the first thing out of his mouth was, “Awww...Weller the best in the business! Very good”! Over the years he has had many projects that depended on a decent solder not only as a connection but as an artistic finish. A Weller was his go to choice. I know nothing about soldering irons except that you need a steady hand and an iron that has a secure firm grip and a steady temperature for continuous soldering. This Weller is 80 watts which makes it perfect for that and heavy duty applications. It also comes with quick change tips and a kinda flimsy little holder. Like my husband said, “Very good”!

Nice Basic Large Project Hobbyist Soldering Iron.
This is a very good product. It's a beginners pack for stain glass hobbyist and basic wood burning. So it has soldering iron with two bits, an very simple stand, some solder, and a probe. So these bits are large area bits and are not meant for "detailed" work like soldering computer circuits or very small stained glass projects. I however use this type of iron for general wood burning, plastic melting (rebound repair broken plastic parts) and soldering wire together to keep them from coming apart. This basic set is perfect for this type of work.

      Nice tool.
This is a heavy duty soldering iron. Not for use on fine electronic devices. Used for soldering heavy joints in non ferrous and ferrous metals. Comes with two removable and interchangeable tips. Has a stand to hold the wand when heated up. This soldering iron is very durable and should last the user for a very long time. Can be used to burn wood for crafting.

      High Heat Produced
80-Watt Corded Soldering Iron Kit with Power Grip This gets hot and holds its heat while working but takes time to heat up. It does not come with fine tips for work like electronics but can be used in a pince if needed for spot pointing. I use it mend cut cords. Provides continuous non-stop soldering. Throws off enough heat to meld on the protective wire shields. This unit will allow you to work faster and longer than a 30w unit. Faster and accurate. Great for people who like to repair things or a small fix-it shop. Just one screw to be removed to change out tips. Comes with the basic tips.

      Basic Medium Duty Soldering Iron
Weller Brand, 80W Soldering Iron Kit Power Grip is a medium duty basic soldering iron rated to 880 F/470 C temperature featuring two replaceable copper tips with the ability to purchase additional Weller tip configurations. The installed tip comes pre-tinned and ready to go to work. The soldering iron heats well, is easy to clean when hot on a damp cloth. While I did not have any soldering project waiting when my Weller soldiering iron arrived, I tested its capability to join 12-gauge copper wire with a soldered connection. Soldered connections like these, while often of lighter gauge wire are useful for irrigation valves where moisture can cause corrosion to electrical connections.

      Good Quality Soldering Iron
I do a fair amount of soldering wiring for various projects. I got this soldering iron to replace one that had quit. I have had this brand before and found it to be good quality. It still is. I have used it to solder wires for a 20 volt battery for a LED light. I soldered wires for new rear tractor accessory light. It heats up quickly and stays hot. I like the power grip handle. It comes with a stand for keeping the hot iron off y workbench. I use the plastic tool to hold and adjust as needed. Good quality addition to my toolbox

      Great little soldering iron
Weller has been the "go-to" for soldering products for many many years. This 80 watt iron fits right in. This iron is not suitable for smaller jobs, like electronics or small gauge wires. However, when you have something larger, this iron does the job. It heats up very slowly compared to the smaller irons. It is "open loop", not temperature controlled. But the tips are pretty massive and hold the heat pretty well when you place the tip on something that sinks out the heat. I tried it on a model railroad track and you can see that it did a great job of soldering the wire to the rails. The kit does not include anything to wipe off the tip, so grab a damp sponge or a "brass sponge" like in my picture. Keep the tip clean and make sure the set screw is tight to the tip and you should get similar results to mine. I'm not sure what type solder is included in the kit but when soldering wire I always use resin core solder or solid core with resin flux. The acid core stuff used in plumbing can cause corrosion.

Well designed and just right for my needs.
I am really pleased to have my own Weller 80-Watt Corded Soldering Iron Kit with Power Grip.  All of the ones I've had in the past were taken over by my son, and never returned.  He liked them and now I have my own, again.  I recently acquired a beautiful wrought iron pair of Peacock murals.  One of the corners needs soldered back on. I'm planning my project for this weekend.  Nice set including extra irons, and a small bit of soldering material, which will be just right for my project. Feels comfortable to grip in my hands, and has a little kickstand to hold it up to prevent damages to other surfaces.  Proud to own.

      Almost perfect
I like this soldering iron kit quite a bit. It heats up nice and quickly and that 880 degree temp should take care of any soldering needs you may have. It comes with two different tips to choose from, a stand, and a tool to help move your solder to right where you need it. Nearly perfect, I only wish it had a on and off switch instead of having to plug and unplug it. I even liked that the box was really easy to open instead of having to find a knife or some scissors.

      Weller is the Real Deal
This is the "gold standard" of soldering tools ... but you really need to understand that there are many different versions of this for many different jobs. This particular iron is 80W which is way too much power and heat to use on routine electronics circuits and wires. This iron is made for small plumbing jobs or other requirements that need big heat over a 1/2" or so of joining.
