      Q:4 1/4" Nipple - Will this fit?

      Answer This Question

A:  On the westbrass website they spec a 4-1/2" pipe stick out. Not Sure why they don't put this right in the description.

      by|Jan 6, 2020

A:  we are unable to answer this question because of the numerous variable involved, including the taper on the 1/2 in. nipple, the thread depth of the nipple and the wall surface. It will be very close.

      by|Mar 12, 2019

A:  4-1/4 in. This should refer to the length of the faucet. It should be okay if the water does not get on the edge of the bathtub. I used 5-1/4 in., and I am very satisfied with it now. There is no dripping problem. It is very flexible to pull the valve.

Q:Can this spout be used with a hand held shower?
          by|Jul 12, 2018

          Answer This Question

A:  Only if the handheld is attached with an external diverter valve that is attached to the shower arm under the main shower head. Or you could use the YE540D-12 which has its own 1/2 in. IPS outlet on the spout.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  Front deverter is routing water to the showerhead which could be handheld.

This is a solid replacement compared to my original one. It has a great, even brushed nickel finish. Only down side was my own accord, as I realized after I had removed (and damaged) my original spout, the the new one had a diverter that was closer to the mouth of the spout than the original. I needed up having to extend the pipe from the wall in order to make it work. Make sure the design of the existing matches the design of the new see pictures for clarity

I am remodeling my hall bathroom and removing all the shiny silver fixtures, and have chosen the west brass 5 1/4 inch front diverter tub spout with front IPS connection in black. The hardest part about installing this tub spout was the removal of the old one. It was a very easy installation. The matte black color updated my hall bathroom very nicely. I will highly recommend this Product to all of my friends that are planning a remodeling of a bathroom.

If you have a matte black bathroom or you are looking for some kind of modern looking tub spout, this may just fit the bill. It is essentially a no frills, basic design, tub spout and shower diverter. It installs using a standard 1/2" threaded adapter that is found on the vast majority of plumbing. It doesn't have any fancy curves or anything, really it looks like a chrome one that was just spray painted.

You never think about something when it is working well. You actually take it for granted that it will always be there. Why would a tub spout with diverter go bad? Because it was cheaply made. This Home Depot Tub Spout with Diverter is made to last. It looks good and it feels good. The diverter is made of some kind of PTFE plastice that is harder than my last one and it slides real nice up and down. Now I can shower without using a hammer to get the diverter to divert.

A very reasonable tub spout with diverter valve. The finish is very nice in appearance, and the diverter actuator operates smoothly. The threaded fitting is at the spout end (away from the wall) of the unit, so be sure that the wall stub is long enough to make the connection. Some diverter spouts have a set-screw to lock the unit in place, but this one does not, so a tight fit (and maybe extra teflon tape) will help secure it.

I got this WESTBRASS 5-1/4 IN. FRONT DIVERTER TUB SPOUT WITH FRONT IPS CONNECTION IN SATIN NICKEL to replace an older “builders quality” tub spout that was making a whining noise. I recognize that this is a good quality product, it is made out of metal with a nice finish, there are nice rubber gaskets and O-rings that seem like they will last a long time. However I think I ordered the wrong spout. This one has a threaded connection and I needed a slip on connection. I wasn’t familiar with what ips connection meant. Maybe it would be a good idea to include “threaded” I would definitely recommend this product for the correct application!

I don’t have the fanciest house, but I like things to work as they should. The shower in my guest bath did not work all that well since the diverter was so crusted with minerals from my hard water that I really needed a new one. I was probably getting less than half the water flow through the shower head. When I saw the Westbrass 5-1/4 in. Front Diverter Tub Spout with Front IPS Connection in Matte Black I had to give it a try, even though the balance of my fixtures were not matte black. The IPS connection is a ½” MIP threaded connection that fit perfectly. I applied a bit of teflon tape, screwed on and aligned the spout and, “Viola!” The pressure and flow through the shower head is fantastic. No more leaking through the spout. Thankfully plumbers have standardized a lot of things so this Westbrass tub spout fit perfectly. If you have the same problem I had, get yourself a new spout from Westbrass and problem solved.

This Westbrass 5-1/4 in. Front Diverter Tub Spout with Front IPS Connection in Matte Black is a very well made spout . It stands out from the wall at a length of about 5-1/2 inches long . The end that butts up to the wall has a diameter of about 2-1/2 inches . It comes with a pull shower diverter at the outside end of it which also seems to be made to last a long time . Installation is very easy by simply putting an attachment tube in the inside and screwing it to the supply pipe .

Definitely do not waste your time and money on this product. The only good thing I can say about it is the satin nickel finish is nice. It was time to replace my old white diverter spout as it was leaking even after I replaced it with a new slide gate. I removed the old diverter and used the existing adapter and installed this one. It leaks worse than the old one. I think I am going to put the old one back and throw this one away.

The WestBrass tub spout is front threaded, so make sure you check to see how your current spout is installed. (There are front thread, back thread and slip on). I neglected to do this, and found that old spout was a "slip on". Just a minor problem though as inexpensive adapter kits are available and easy to use. The black spout looks great, and the shower diverter valve works well - it completely stopped the water from coming out the tub spout, unike my old one. It's an inexpensive, easy upgrade and Westbrass has a matching matt black shower head and arm available to go with the spout.
